i usually run a test in the first attempt... the "how good stats can i get with just great successes?". Then i start wondering about where i can "save" a point, if i get an amazing success.
When i know that... i start the assembly, run the 6-7 points in one line (usually nutrition), that i needed to save a point. i don't use bespin port in that attempt.
IF i get an amazing success, i drink a bespin port and run the remaining points i need in another line (usually filling or flavor).
I will always dump the schematic if i don't get at least 11 of the 12 pts i got as amazing success.
Sometimes i can get it with just 5 attempts.. other times i have to go thru 50 tissues before i get the result i want.
But.. i get the best possible result. I did this as well when i was 10 and 11 pt chef.. simply because i could compete with the "less patient" 12 pt crafters on the server.
But your ability to know just about how many pts and what resources to use without even making a test will save you time and effort. It comes with time.
Anyway... GL with Chef... it's fun

Your text read for methat once you get an amazing on the nutritional line, you keep trying until you get one for flavor? If the flavor doesn't turn out to be amazing dont you have to scrap itand start all over on a new item? Of did you mean you fill in all the nutritional line at one time, and then fill in the flavor row one exp point at a time, so you have several chances to get an amazing.
Anymore clarification you can led would greatlyaid anew chef.
Thanks,

I don't use Bespin Port for thatI usually dump the attempt if its not an amazing success (I finish 1 or 2 attempts in the beginning and make a schematic, so i have something in case it never gets anywhere)Once I have an amazing success on that 5/6 pts exp i drink a sip of Bespin and do a 3 or 4 pts exp on another line (usually i need to do that. Perhaps also those 3 pts go into the same). If its no great or amazing i dump it. If its great I safe it and might try again (depending on how expensive the resources are and what i hope to gain from it) if its an amazing as well (making this a 8-10 pts amazing success) its usually the winner already and i head to my factoryI'm still 10pts so usually i'm finished after that or have 1 point left to get the filling from 51 to 49 (Brandy e.g.)...
Good style, I do the same. Use 6 or so on the first line and hope for Amazing, and if I get it, take a hit of Port and try for the 2nd attempt on another line. Two Amazings = schematic obviously, but I also make a backup schematic in the first few attempts if things aren't going well (and some days they don't). Anything that comes up all Greats I will craft it and toss it on the vendor as a sample, dump anything lower, and usually a mix of Great/Amazing may end up being the temporary schem if I run low on resources.
I'm just starting out, bank account is depleted, so don't have the resources to suffer through bad days at the crafting station.

I would also add it behooves you to start with great stuff. For brandy, you need the fruits/berries that will get you at least qty 21/49 filling right off the bat so you won't need to mess with those lines. Having great stuff = free exp points, but it goes without saying I guess.

Not sure you were responding to me, but if you were, you're right in saying that I scrap the item (actually I sell all experimentation attempts, just at reduced price on the vendor) if I don't get an amazing using the first 7 on nutritional value and then another amazing when I use 4 pts on flavor when making brandy, all on the same schem. Right now I have strong competition, so I don't stop till I have a double amazing brandy schem as I feel it's necessary to keep sales high. Some times I get my schematic on the 1st try, other times it takes me 25 or more tries.

Sorry, I should have clarified better whose post I was referring to. Thanks Odite it was your post. You insight helps. Perhaps I should start using Bespin Port because I can only remember once that I had two amazings in a row, it could take me quite awhile for that to happen on my brandy.
Many thanks,

On items that have no apparent stat for a given experimentation line, what happens? Example:
Power Handlers. There's an experimentation line for durability, but the only apparent stats are damage and speed. Does the durability line actually affect anything? Is this documented somewhere?
Thanks.

Ok, yeah this is kinda for the FS boards but you Weaponsmiths are involved, if you ground out the FS crafting experimentation tree, would you really need a tape to get your 12pts. cause 4 boxes with +5 in each would give you your 12pts, wouldnt it? What im trying to say is would i need to buy a tape if i got those boxes?

Yes, the +5 adds to your experimentation success roll. Meaning, instead of a great, you have a better chance of getting an amazing success.

FS exepriment doesn't give you more experiment points like CA's do. They simply increase the chance of a better success. So yes you will still need CA's to get 12 pts.
Assembly only works on the assemble phase once the weapon is together then weapon experimentation takes effect.
