ok, this is a real n00by question i know. im working on armorsmith. and as such i wanna make good armor. but i dont really understand the values when i think about it.

im talking about effectiveness etc. ok vulnerability i got 100% lol. but special protection and effectiveness both confuse me.

does SP of 14% on kinetic mean, only 14% gets through, or 14% of an attack doesnt. likewise with effectiveness of energy 7%...does that mean only 7% gets through or 7% doesnt. so confused. help would be appreciated

try a search for armor. I KNOW there are posts about it. Also look in the "Armorsmiths" profession board for some answers

Better armour with more layers has a higher percentage, so the percentage listed is the amount stopped (in theory)

The armorsmith forum has an excellent information and FAQ document stickied to the top of the forum. The document is long and parts of it read like stereo instructions. My advice is to read it in parts. Read until your brain goes numb, then make armor and try to see what the document is referring to, and then read more later (even starting over at the beginning) and you will understand even more.

The percentage is what it can block of that damage type. To simplify, if you have 10% energy armor and your target hits you for 100, only 90 gets through (sans the 10% blocked) to hit you.

err if the target hits you with energy, I mean. To continue, if the target hits you with cold and you have no cold resist, you get the entire 100pts of damage.

That is until you get into the armor piercing damage......

Simply put, the higher the "effectiveness" or "special protection," the more damage it will prevent (assuming that that is the tyoe of damage your enemy is dishing out). Also note than when you get armor sliced for effectiveness, just that will go up...special protections cannot be increased through slicing. Good luck

Pretty sure thats not in game yet as an option. Some NPC's spawn with that, but they can have any item. Apparently one of the needed loot drops for RIS is not dropping since the patch, so less suits. Also it has the fun "your armor is suddenly vulnerable to that FWG5 that you are being shot with" bug. In short, RIS is borked, don't bother.

In the trade forum someone asked that an Armorsmith make their Composite "light" instead of "heavy." Color me ignorant, but wouldn't you rather have heavy for the armor piercing protection? I'm a novice fencer so I figured you all would be able to give me the best info.

Seems to me he's talking about the HAM costs, unless they added something I don't know about yet.

"Light" refers to the HAM costs of the armour, there will be a bit of a drop in the protection but the lower HAM costs will make it far easier to wear and fight in.

I thought it was light and heavy regarding Armor Piercing. It shows up as a category when you examine, no?
