this i can answer.
pve....very good. only prof other than bh that does electric damage which is handy in the dw bunker. also wide selection of dot weapons available.
pvp....you are probably going to be the first person back at the cloning facility. actually you will be the last person since you will rate on the threat meter as a phat zero.
on the positive side you can go to the opposite factions base and dominate the stormtroopers/rebels there. the at-st is a little tougher but they only have 15% resist to electric so if you have decent armor and full buffs you should be able to take it out.

For serious PvE go swordsman. For both PvP PvE consider TKA. Fencer PvP but never for PvE. Or do them all. Thats the only way you'll truly know.
Swordman - insane damage, slightly slow, has area attacks. Lacks a knockdown and the ability to land state effects.
Fencer - Super fast, low damage output. If the enemy is armored it will take forever. Unless weak vs Stun. Has allot of state effects and awesome secondary defense skills. No knockdown.
TKA - Good primary defenses, good tank, insane damage, fast attacks. Can heal your own wounds. Can power boost. Can land states and has a dizzy/knockdown combo. See meditation =)
Pikeman - Nice area attacks. Cool area knockdown. Some nice DOT weapons. Personally forget the DOT weapons. Other professions can put out a ton more damage allot faster. DOT's serve a better purpose in PvP.
Pretty much all melee lack a variety of damage types. TKA Kinetic/Heat - Fencer Kinetic/Stun - Swordsman Kinetic/Blast Pikeman Kinetic/Electricty/Energy
For DOT weapons. You can find Polearms and One-Handed weapons. If you don't have medic take TKA for its great meditation tree.

The items in bold aren't entirely true. If you pick up Master Brawler, you get the Lunge2 attacks for every brawler skill, which, I might add..are knock down. Very handy.

(Then this is not the profession for you if you are into pvp, you must be ready to dedicate all 250 skillpoints twords combat/healing or you really will have no chance, in pve you could solo most mobs except the high end knetic resistant ones.)

People, you'r all wrong!
I find Pikeman the best profession of em all - its fun - its cool - and its very good in PVE (yes, ive played swordsman and the DPS u get with a 650 max dmg pike isnt far from a swordsman dmg).
And Pikeman aint that bad in pvp - not bad at all - Cuz we got this 250-300 strenght posion pikes, i killed riflemans with it , just knock em over and let the posion do short work of em. Only thing im having problems with is tkm/fencer as i cant land posion on em 
All thoose fellas that says that pikeman is "decent" for pve doseont know what theyr talking about it, with skilltapes and a 1k max dmg you'll outdamage a swordsman by far looking at my 650 pike and 25 speed missing.

The problem with what you say, TheVole, is that in order to simply compete with the other classes we need to rely on skill tapes and looted weapons. Thats the heart of the issue with pikeman. Crafted weapons and the class as a standalone is not comparable to the other melee professions in many ways. Dont get me wrong though, pikeman is still fun and I love it regardless.

with ranged thy keep running away from uand keep shooting at u ... everyone runs atthe same speed so we cant catch up, and we can notswing while running even if we get with in range ... so we end up getting hit and killed even before we can even get a hit in ...

Because we have to depend on DOT's alot. That puts us in the same catagory as CM's which brings on hatred.

Well, I'd rather put effort on being a good pikeman rather then just being good without any effort layed on it, if you can even be better then a fencer or swordsman in PVE & PVP i think its worth it and evryone that acually complains about pikeman is just ppl that doseont know u have to get good pikes, skilltapes etc to be good as a pikeman. I'll probly be pikeman till i stop playing, its so much fun, and i dropped fencer and swordsman cause i didnt think they were fun/good enuff. And i dont think posion pikes are lame, I rather see it like the way CM should be, and its still a bit of a challange to put that posion on the nmie as you have to fight in melee to do so.

I havent tried yet so i shouldnt say to much

I'm starting to like the idea of ranger/pike.... but
can anyone here, who does alot of buffed player vs player, you have a looted pike, skill tapes, etc., testify to how much dmg you're putting out in pvp and how sucessful it is? some of you did give numbers but you said you don't pvp much.
you guys are very nice to give me so much feedback from my curiosity. most forums probably would've set me on fire and hung me for asking blunt questions.
oh, and btw, since I am a master ranger my burst run is quite excellent. very fast and little to no HAM cost. I could tackle ranged fighters ok i think
and can anyone tell me if im screwed because I'm a zabrak?

pve is decent, but swordsman is better. same applies for pvp
