Is it possible to do these with only the survey abilities you get with novice artisan?
I have survey IV at the moment but am dropping it as I need the points for other skills..

Will I still be able to do the missions? (I do these now and they are a big source of cash for me)

Sure! Only the range and success changes. Fact is, I don't know what "success" has to do with it as it always registers a result. Perhaps "success" refers to sampling and not surveying.

I see you have constructed your own Mineral Scanner.
Impressive. Most impressive.

I am a Master Arty and working my way up the D.E. career tree. I still can't seem to figure out how the Survey Missions actually work. I was on Tatooine and the hermit wanteda65 effec of some chemical (can't remember) anyway I did a survey and there it was 80% right where I was standing. I didn't get the mission complete or anything for that matter. Anyone have any clues.

Call it patience or stubborness, either way when D.E. finally gets fixed, I will be at the top of the heap. I will not give up!!

You have to be at least 1024 meters away from the mission terminal, and then find a spot that gives that percentage to complete the mission.

You dont have to find the exact %age just that or above but it does say 1024 in the message that pops up when givin missions from the terminal so I assume that to be true for NPC survey missions too. In my experience its actually a little more then that I dont usually get a sucessfull result unless I am at least 1200 meters away. One thing to note from mission termis the skill level of you currently held weapon dictates the maximum level you can get (Stupid I know) so to get the best missions its worth taking marksman or brawler and getting one of the combat ladders maxed out to get the best missions (So much for being a pure crafter).

Well, kick me in the shorts and send me to bed. I was misreading the popup message this whole time. I THOUGHT it said, you must find the resource within 1024 meters of the terminal or npc. So I guess I was missing it. I aborted a lot of 2200 credit and up mission because I thought it was broken. Thanks for the insight.

Yesterday i was doing survey missions, and i found to my amazement that they were offering missions that payed far more for more specific resource types eg Intrusive ore instead of just ore. However when i came back today todo some more i found only the standard mission types. Can anyone explain how this works and how to find more of these higher payed missions.

Did you have a weapon equiped? I know it sounds daft but it makes a difference on other missions and I bet SoE used the same coding.

Btw I always tried to find a high concentration just outside the minimum distance and THEN get missions for that resource.

Yes equipping a weapon makes a difference, but only if you are at the 4th tier marksman box for said weapon. Pleas to have this changed for us peaceful types have (so far) fallen on deaf ears.

As far as working the missions - what also works is to note what is at a high concentration for shuttleports in 2 different cities on the same planet, then shuttle back and forth to survey. Saves all that narsty running about through aggro mobs for those of us deficient in fighting abilities <points at self>.

Unfortunately, they currently work just like destroy missions. To qualify for Advanced Survey missions, you need to have sufficient skills with your equipped weapon (as someone else said, 4th box in either Marksman or Brawler for the corresponding weapon) or be grouped with someone that does, or with a high enough level pet (for which you would need CH). The level of survey missions available has nothing to do with your Artisan/Surveying skills... which is bad news for those of us who chose to play pure non-combatants.

You need to use a survey tool to find a concentration of the specified resource above or equal to the comcentrationgiven in the mission.

For example, if the mission requires a 70% concentration of non-ferrous metal, use your survey tool to find such a spot and then survey on the 70% (or greater) spot to get the payoff.

The real way to do a survey mission is to go 1024 meters from a mission terminal, and survey for gas, inorganic and chemical. Make a note ofany concentrations at or above 70% (the more of them, the better), and then go to the terminal and get missions for them. Now, go back and survey and you will get paid. Repeat until you have enough money or you get bored. If you have a vehicle, you should be able to do at least 10 per hour (20 missions total) for about 1800 per mission - not too bad.....

Note that you will need a weapons skill at level 4 (for example, Marksman Pistol 4) and have that weapon equipped, to get the high payout missions. What does weapons skill have to do with surveying? I dunno......
