Sorry for a newbie question but I did check the FAQ first.
I made my first camo kits last night and happily started applying them to my group. Not one took hold, 3 people had mask scent up, the other had a mask on with which /conceal clearly doesn't stack.
Soooo, as they were nice people, they dropped their own /maskscent and armourso I could camo them. It seemed to break pretty quick but from the other posts that is clearly my own lack of skill. Still, the group was not very impressed
I couldn't help feeling that it's a lot of work collecting very specific drops to make something that is only of use to people with no scouting skill. Are there clear benefits to the camo kit over and above maskscent (the description says it works on NPCs but I see on the FAQ that it only affects animals)? Would I ever want to use a camo kit on myself? Is it as good as ranger maskscent when I'm maxed at /conceal (giving the millions of scouts out there a reason to drop their own low level one in order for me to /conceal them)?
thanks

Right now, at Wayfaring III, I have seen very little real-world difference between a Camo Kit and Mask Scent. I'm wearing to +15 Mask/Camo clothing items, so have maxxed 125 Mask, but I'm holding out hope that getting 125 Camoflauge (at Master Ranger with the same clothing) will be better than 125 Mask.

I find that mask scent gives you an extra 30% scouting points per animal that doesn't detect you.... Thus by my strange logic, I would guess that camo kits have 30% extra chance of not being noticed.

I have been away from the game for a while and just returned. i made some Dath camo kits just a few moments ago. Everytime I click on them an examine screen pops up. And the camo kits isnt used or activated. Did they change how they are used? Or are they bugged?

You select yourself using alt+1 (I think, or ctrl+1, one of them will do it), and then type the command /conceal. You also have the option to open your macro menu ctrl +a I think) and load the command to a toolbar slot. Either way gets the job done. You'll get a message that says you concealed yourself.

Just have the camo kit in your top level inventory, i.e. on your person or in your pack, and then
/conceal self
/conceal player_name
If the player is already masked or camoed the conceal won't take and you'll get a system message.
Also, if you are grouped you can /conceal other group members even if they are out of your LoS.
And finally, a party trick to stun and amaze your friends. Target someone in the cantina, wander off into the shrubbery, spot a big red MoB, hit /conceal... and the person in the cantina gets a big nose after their name tag. Great for breaking the ice and getting irritable jedi PM'ing you asking **edit** you've done to them!! (Honest, it WAS an accident and I was more embarrassed at getting caught out scoping the pretty jedi than I was at ramdomly concealing another PC)

I believe that the camo kit must be in your main inventory (i.e. not in a backpack).

Whiro is right it has to be in your main inventory as well. And will not work while in a backpack

you also dont have to target yourself or type /conceal self or anything like that. just have the cammo kits in your inventory, and make sure you dont have anybody or anything targeted. then type /conceal. simple as that. itll automatically conceal yourself.

Does anyone know if they plan on making a Camo Kit for the wookie World in the Ranger tree?

Yes, it's been discussed already.
They were doing stuff at the last minute for Kashyyyk, and decided if there was anything they could not do if they didn't have enough time it was the Ranger camo, so we wait patiently through 3 hotfixes without seeing a single addition of it, but our correspondent assures us that the devs say it will be in "soon."
