My barc isnt even worth keeping. Its a better investment for me to buy a crate of swoops then to repair the barc of being disabled.
I guess the answer to your first question is "the learning curve". He doesn't get another bike, he gets a land speeder for 5-6K, easy money from artisan/survey missions, AND he learns a very, veryvaluable lesson about venturing blindly about. Really.
Your second arguement that disabled swoops be fixed for a fee at a garage smells the same as those who don't want thier weapons/armor/clothes to ever decay. You seem to discredit the crafting aspect of this game. What makes this game so special and why many of us (please note that I did not say all) continue to play despite the CU and bugs, is the virtual economy. THAT is the immersion for us.
Your first point is typical: Tough cookies noob...hey come by my bikes..... I find your comment shallow and lacking. There are hundreds of players that "ventured blindly" and trail blazed and after their venturing others followed thier path to new loot, experiences and challanges in this game. The only hard lesson that that noob must learn is that most in this game a unsympathetic and will use your niaveity to their advantage (ripping them off for BARCs and other items, LETTING them go to an advanced planet KNOWING the outcome so they HAVE to come back and buy your products)
Your second point is wrong. I haveno problem with items decaying or even paying for new items from crafters. I have a problem with crafter that charge 100ks for repair kits, crates of bikes, ect, ect when it only cost them 10ks to make them. You balance out your prices and I wont have a problem buying repair kits from you. Untill then I will find every concievable way to avoid lining your pockets at MY expense. It is the crafter and their inflated prices that drove the economy of Bria out of control. A +2 CA running 2mil MIN??!!! A good weapon 15 mil!!??!! I remember when a good weapon ran you 800K and great armor ran 350K for a complete set (a frigging Uber ADKed suit today runs in the 300 MILLION!!!!!!!range). Then came the Doc Buffs, then the over priced resources which drove the other prices sky high.
Unless part of an Uber guild a new player with a BARC a CDEF pistol and a basic character has little or no chance of ever being able to afford the prices to advance. I personally see why people exploit with 7 accounts and credit farm. Unless your a vet from Pre-cu or an Ace piolet there is no WAY to get close to these prices. So get real and get over your "I so rightous kick" dude its lame.
This is reminiscent of how oil companies are gouging consumers in the US for oils that isnt costing them a fraction of the cost they are selling it from. We the consumers pay for their greed because a Car is neccessary to survive in the world today. The oil "crafter" take advantage of this need to line their pockets.
Everyone deserves an equal chance at immerson. Do you think charging a noob 100-200k to repair a bike is affording him immerson? Or maybe its your opinion to just buy it off oh him and give him a crate of swoops?

if a noob can afford the ticket to dath, then he should be able to eat a bike, like everyone else going there does. i regularly stock them on the dath vendor with my artisan for 17k. and unless you mine your own, you are losing money at that cost.
if you want cheap stuff, become an artisan.
and as pointed out above, repair kits cost a bunch because asteroids are a pita to mine. go harvest your own and you can almost any artisan to make you one for free. again, if you don't like it, do it yourself.

In the first place let me point out that you are the one using the derogatory term "noob". I and the larger group of considerate contributors use the term "new player". Please do us all a favor and stop pretending like you actually care about this class of players. But I'm in the mood to argue (hormonal and all) so let's play.
Point one. I didn't send that new player to an adventure planet. Hada new player seen my "helper" tag I would have advised that he most certainly NOT venture off planet until his base profession grind was completed. Your juvernile accusation of my wanting new players to venture to dangerous zones for the express purpose of losing thier ride makes no sense. If they don't HAVE the money for a new bike where is my incentive?
You have obvioulsy never been a crafter. My guess is that your momma still cuts the crusts off your baloney sanwiches so you don't ever have to be inconvieninced. It not up to you to determine what I or any crafter will charge. You play in thesame economy I do - suck it up. If part of your enjoyment of the game is to "find every concievable way to avoid lining your pockets at MY expense" then have at it, I do, after all, feel strongly that the game should be whatever the player wishes it to be. However that is not what you are doing. You are opening your prepubescent mouth on the borads calling for the devs to change MY game to suit YOUR PLAYSTSYLE. So don't lecture me about what I should charge, I've heard it all before - more important the devs have heard it all before and it isn't going to change. In addition you should really check some facts before you post. Armor, weapon and clothing repair tools sell for around 1K credits. The only high end repair kit is the new vehicle repair kit which requires hard to come by resources. So shut your chocolate milk stained lips.
Never be able to afford the price to advance? Seems to me that the game is doing just fine. My armor is selling very well to players who are a month or two into the game. How many paid subscriptions make me an "exploiter"? Seems to me if I am willing to pay to have characters on the same server I'm not exploiting. Seems to the resonable mind, unclouded by dreams of seeing-teacher-naked, would see that since SOE is obviously aware of those of us "exploiting the system" that it would ban our sorry, exploitingkeesters.
If you want to complain about gas prices you should wait until you actually get a license! By then gas will be $4 a gallon and you'll even be madder. Again gas costs what gas costs. As long as enough people are willing to 1) continue to buy Hummers and 2) fork over the cash the oil companieswill continue to charge what we (grown ups) are willing to pay. If don't like it have mommy buy you a passport and move your whiney self to Europe.
Finally and in closing (although I AM have a good time kicking your sorry patootie instead of my husband's) "I so rightous kick". Correcting for the fact that you seem to be typing with one hand, I will continue to be self-rightous, at least on my freedom to charge what I think the market will bear for the products I craft. I will continue to flame X-Box refugees complaining that SWG is not more like DOOM. I will continue to stand up, point my fingerat idiocy and expose it for the braying, spoiled child it is.

QFE
Here's a little bit of help for those aspiring space miners looking for the ingredients for the Vehicle Repair Tools.
Ingredients:
750 units Carb Asteroid (Naboo/Rori Space)
750 units Petro Asteroid (Yavin Space)
How to find the asteroids:
Launch into the proper space sector. Pull up your datapad (Control+D). Go to the POI Tab. Activate all listed asteroids of the type you are gathering. Find the closest one, and head towards it.
How to mine:
This is assuming you have a mining laser, tractor beam, and cargo hold installed on your ship.
Fire at large Asteroid a few times with mining laser. Once a chunk breaks off, fire on that until it breaks up into several small pieces. Now use the tractor beam to pull these small chunks to your ship.
(Note: setting up tractor beam - in your options [control+O] go to the Keymap section. then go to the Ship tab, and find the button to toggle your tractor beam. set this to an easy to get to key and you're set)
Once your cargo hold is full, head back to the space station and land. while on the ground, go to your ship in your datapad. click and hold to get the Radial menu, and choose the Unload Cargo option. this will put the asteroids in your inventory.
Occasionally while firing on the large asteroid, some Asteroid Bandits will appear. your mining laser can be used as a weapon, but i would suggest loading a missle launcher on your ship as well for added protection. while mining Petro asteroid, Tier 3 bandits will appear. these can be tough to destroy with just a mining laser, so make sure to have good shields to absorb their attacks. Naboo only spawns Tier 1 bandits, so they should be easy to dispatch with the mining laser.
NOTE: Shipwright crafted mining gear is better than the quest reward gear given on Kashyyyk, and you DO NOT need to do the quest to be able to space mine.
Hope that info helps you prospective space miners.
It is a pity to see people labeling crafters as 'credit barons' as soon as they see something they consider expensive on a vendor.
Let me shed some light to the space mining operation. It takes 1500 space resources to make a VRK. You do NOT need to be a Master Pilot to mine. I mine in my Kimogila having a 1550 unit cargo hold, a Class III Mining Laser, and a Tractor Beam. It takes me exactly 15 minutes to fill up the hold. So to make a VKR, I need 15 minutes, land, unload, launch, re-station, 15 minutes, land.It usually comes to 40 minutes or so to get enough resources for 2 kits (3000 units), so 20 minutes per kit. This by the way is the most boring 20 minutes of your SWG life, unless you get jumped by a pirate who will provide some entertainment for a few seconds.
As you may or may not know, you can sell your space resources at the space stations for up to 20cpu (that's Diamonds off Kessel if I recall). The Petrochemical goes for 10cpu and the Carbonaceous goes for 4 cpu. Soat 7 cpu average, this puts the reward for your work to 10500. If I can sell the resources at that price at an NPC station, I will not be selling a kit that I will have to make with those resouces and place on a vendor I have to maintain for the same price. This immediately makes the VRK cost-prohibitive to use against your swoop. Your swoop costs as much if not less. Also, in order to make a swoop you need 8000 units of resources (that are much more readily available to you) you can get simply by placing a harvester or two down and have them do the work for you. So paying 1.5 cpu for a swoop is affordable for the customer and still provides a profit to the crafter. Asking for the same cpu on a space resource you have to collect manually over 20 boring minutes is ignorant at best.
The VRK's purpose is to restore the non-craftable rare vehicles. When you buy an AV-21 at 3 mill and a BARC at 2 mill, is 200k for a full repair unreasonable? I don't think so, but don't take my word for it. Let's look at my data. I mined for a while and run an experiment. I made 3 kits and placed on a vendor for 50k. The kits left ... no ... evaporated within minutes. I placed the next 3 on my vendor for 100k. All 3 were bought in ... 7 minutes!
Now I have placed the last 3 for 150k. For the record, the cheapest price for them as of last night was 250k.
Pricing is driven not by the crafter but by the customer. Unreasonable pricing holds the customer from buying. If I am not selling the kits I will drop the price until they sell again. This is how the market corrects itself. If the prices drop below what I considered cost, then I pull the items and keep them for myself. Eventually the demand will go back up and here we go again.
Just my 2 credits ... !

They really didn't flame you bad at all. Implying you aren'tacting like amatureadult is not exactly a capital offense around here. Honestly if you're expecting that to be deleted then you're really being a bit hyper sensitive.
Price breakdown : Vehicle Restoration Kit (Europe-Infinity Server)
Requirements
750 Units Carbonaceous Asteroid
750 Units Space Petrochemical Asteroid.
Best SALVAGE PRICE for Carbonaceous Asteroid = Corellia @ 5 cu
Best SALVAGE PRICE for Space Petrochemical Asteroid = Corellia / Naboo Tied @ 12 cu
Cost of Materials at Salvage Value 12750
Now: Space mining is slow, why? Becuase the best ships for mining are single player ships, the y-8 is not well suited for space mining at all. Best Cargo capacity for a single player ship: Large starfighter cargo hold (1550 unit storage CAPPED) That means you go out and get enough asteroid resources for only 1 Vehicle repair kit per mining trip. You invest 3 times as much time per trip becuase of simple travel time, and work time due to asteroid bandits, wild spawns and general lag and nonsense.
Now, crafters on infinity recognize the difficulty of mining those resources and have set the value of those resources for purchase at 40 to 50 cu. Lets break it down again at that price:
Carbonaceous + Petrochem resource needed for 1 repair kit: 1500 units total
40 cu x 1500 units = 60,000. Thats the price that the crafter of those items has invested, since he's most likely buying them to have a quantity enough to mass manufacture. He has to sell the kit at that price just to break even on the cost of materials. Now add in things liek vendor maintenance, and structure maintenance, which add plenty of additional cost to the base price of manufacturing the repair kits. Estimate another 1 to 5 k for maintenance and vendor overhead (liberal estimate).
IF the crafter is paying 50 cu or more base price: 50 cu x 1500 units = 75,000 BASE COST TO CRAFTER BEFORE ADDING OVERHEAD.
The 40 to 50 cu price range is set to make it attractive for miners to sell to the crafters in order to make all the crafted items that require space rsources, there is far more demand for those resources than just what it takes to make vehicle repair kits.
Seems to me that crafters are setting the prices pretty reasonable for a kit that requires so much overhead cost.
I'm having trouble with my kits disappearing.
I ran some in my factory. The first time (9-4-05) I pulled two crates out (one with 25 and one with 15 items). Once they were in my inventory, I began uncrating them. As I uncrated them, they began to autostack. I noticed that they were not adding up. I stopped when I noticed that I had a crate of 23 kits and only had 8 kits in the stack. This hardly added up to 40 kits. I put ina ticket with CSR at this point.
I got the canned response saying that we apologize but we cannot do anything for you and sorry for the inconvenience. My ticket was closed.
It just happened to me again. this time I lost 13 kits in the same manner. This makes 22 kits at 1500 asteroid resources each that I've lost. Asteroid resources on my server are worth 70 to 120 CPU.
I put in another ticket asking for help. All I want is to recover my resources. How can I get someone to help me?
