I don't feel that that's accurate. There's a dev post that says that they've wanted to make sampling a small meta-game all along.

If they intended to make sampling a small meta game all along then this is certainly a step in the right direction, but it's still harldy a game.

It's still too boring to be called a game. They're going to need a lot more than this. Right now it's a chore.

I think they're trying to make sampling worthwhile for short periods of time, and small amounts of material (for beginning artisans)but invalid as a long-term, high-volume workaround to harvesters. Sure, people will still find ways around this--but there will be less than there were before. And I still can't imagine someone AFK sampling their way into an elite profession, but I'm sure some stubborn people will bull their way into it not realizing how much easier it would have been just harvesting.

Harvesters are NOT cost efficient for MY use. They never have been. I need resources from a minimum of 6 planets, and not in the quantities (2-3k)that justify paying maintenance fees, energy costs or re-deeding costs. In a weekend of sampling I can grab enough resources to keep me in meds for a month or so. I can sample my needs in a few hours what would take me 2 days(more or less)to harvest using a harvester.

Buy from the bazaar? Surely you jest. Medical resources are rarely up for sale on the bazaar and when they are, they are outrageously priced.

Sampling works fine for me, thank you very much. I play optimally for ME, and sampling does that.

You don't need to buy them, but they're so cheap on the bazaar you might as well.

They're selling for around 3cr per unit in the schematic I think. That's cheaper than I can buy the resources.

I could sample the resources, but I could make out better by using that time to run missions.

Jas maybe you only need small quantities, but if you setup the harvestors and let them run you could sell your excess and make money off it.

If you need less than say 1k, then maybe sampling is the answer. Otherwise I still believe harvesting is better.

A lot of the people who still won't use harvestors cite cost as the reason.

Is there some sort of Artisan machismo that I don't know about that dictates you can't sell resources?

I know exactly what you are saying ajm317, but there is a factor in this equation that still keeps me from using harvesters. It is TIME. To me, to spend every 2 days making "the circuit" to pay maintenance, load power, unload hoppers, and dodge extremely hazardous mobsis NOT optimal gaming for me. I can make this circuit once a month (instead of every 2 days) and have all I need. I would rather be in the field healing the rest of my play time.

It just isn't optimal for ME.

"Mined 4282 units of Radioactive material while at my mother in laws for dinner"

Um, that sucks. My harvesters bring in thousands of resources like 15,000plus and I've only upgraded 2 to med's. I don't even hafta tie up my computer or violate an EULA. It happens AUTOMATICALLY.

I have no in laws, luckily, can't help you there.

that's why they did it, because people were leaving their characters logged on 24/7 and causing a tremendous load on the servers.

I see Jas's point, if you're dealing in smaller quantities I could see sampling being a valid way of getting them. I'm still not a big fan of the AFK stuff though, if you need THAT MUCH material that you need your guy sampling while you're at work, then you're not dealing in small quantities anymore.

Personally I think it's great, however I am greatful that I am a MA before this was implemented, it would definitely slowed down the Survey tree.

I understand the need for it, and having received 46 ore in one sample when I found a higher concentration was worth it.

Keep it.

Well that is a problem Jas.

You could put in enough power and maintenance to last, say, a week. Of course the resource could shift, and sometimes that money vanishes...

I think there should be some sort of remote monitoring. I agree, it is a chore.
