Thread: WHAT!?!?!? Cant sample worth crap anymore!!!
Seriously, if you can't afford one harvestor and you have novice DE you need help.
They're 750 cr a day plus power. They pay for themselves if you sell some of your resources. They're only an initial investment of about 1000 (for the harvestor)+750 (one day maintenance)+1200 (cost of the first day of power) or 3000 cr.
You can get that in 2 gnort destroy missions outside Keren in 15 minutes.
As for where people get all these credits? They get them from their harvestors.
How much do you pull up through sampling a day? 1000 resources? 2000? 3000? I can match that with 2 personal harvestors tops, and I don't waste hours sampling.
i guess there are very few of us architects out there. Sure harvesters sample all the time, as long as you keep maint and power up, but you don't realize just how many resources an architect needs for one simple deed!
i have two personal mineral extractors on a spot of 57% ore. after twelve hours i have enough ore for 1 (ONE!) small house deed. this is not to mention the steel harvester i have to keep paid AND the wind generators to keep these three harvestors going.
When all is said and done, if i sell a small house at 9.5k i am just making ends meat. This is counting the shuttle ticket to and from Tatooine every few days to collect my wind. This doesn't leave me with the cash i need to train new architect skills either, mind you. What about my other harvesters to make up for the fact that i cannot deal with only producing one small house deed every 12 hours? it starts to get out rageous and i find i can't keep up with the current flow.
All i'm saying, is that when i could leave the keyboard every twenty minutes to sample, uninterupted, it really helped the flow of resources.to come back after five minutes and see i have beeninteruppted by some little text box is more than a little annoying. I can out sample my harvesters any day!
I have zero lots left, so it's not like i'm avoiding harvesters as a solution, simply put they just really aren't a viablesolution for young architects. perhaps once i get Med harvesters this will change, but the cost vs productivity of personal harvesters is soooo bad, you are better off without them. IMHO of course, coming from a resource swallower, such as myself.

You are incorrect. I've hand-sampled a *lot* sitting beside my harvesters. If you check another of my posts, I put up exact numbers, but they boil down to this:
In 1 hour, on 80+%, I hand-sampled 600 units. In the same time, the two personalharvesters running beside me each brought up 100 units. So, I'm sampling 6 times as fast as they are. You need 6 personalharvesters running simultaneously to keep up with your ownhand-sampling.
And you need (I think) 2 wind generators running to provide the power for those 6 personal harvesters. So, 8 assorted harvesters to keep up with one person hand-sampling.
And you still need to go run missions to get the cash to run those machines, or sell what they're harvesting, rather than using it to actually make things (you know, the reason you're an Artisan?).
On Bria / Naboo.
WAIT!!!
You guys are still talking about harvestors when one poster further up lost his breasts!!! Have some compassion people!!!

The critical events pop-ups changed nothing for /sampling unattended. All it did was force people to think outsidethe box. I sampled for 8 hours straight last night, just by adjusting my ingame-macro. Of course, I had to close about 20 of those annoying pop-ups at the end of the /sampling run, but I can live with that. Heck, if I hadn't closed them myself, they would have closed on their own when the servers came down for morning maintenance.
/sampling stopped? hell no. Adapt, Improvise, Overcome......

i think you will see just how profitable harvesters can be.
Ah yes, you're right. You caught a mistake I made. Although I would have thought in the context of this thread it would be obvious, what I meant was in-game-macro-afk-sampling is no longer allowed. It's amusing though, the simple way you act like you didn't know what I meant.

Then why do we still have that Menu for creating our own in game macros? That's right hit Cntrl+A and click the box labeled "macro" then create your own macro.
If you were correct this patch would have also removed this funtion from the client. As of right now i can still create new macros. *shrugs*

What an interesting argument. You say architects need so many materials to craft that, instead of running 4 or 5 harvesters of different materials, it's MUCH more effective to sample tons of different materials one at a time. Wouldn't it make much more sense to have a number of harvesters, one or two for each of your materials running all day long rather than sample for one...sample for the next....sample for the next.....All you people who are desperately clinging to in-game-afk-macro-sampling just don't realize how effective harvesters are. You're going to all these efforts, 3rd party software and such...harvesting is SO much easier. Believe me or not, I don't care. Eventually you'll get banned for your 3rd party software and we won't have to worry about it anymore.
Actually no PyrocanthaI am correct, not incorrect.
That statement was aimed at the earlier poster who was not sampling while sleeping etc.
If you sample 600 resources and hour then 3000 resources a day sampling is a reasonable maximum for people who are not AFK macroing. You will note that I said in an earlier post that sampling DOES win out IF you AFK macro.
Yes perhaps the rate of sampling is 6 times that of a harvestor but if you're playing legitmately then you harvest 24/7 but you don't sample 24/7. That is my point.
So pay attention.

You can't see the forest for the trees here.
As has already been pointed out unless you're a master level crafter factory producing high level guns by the hundred you can sell materials AND craft.
Running 8 harvestors on decent concentrations you get about 16,000 resources. To support your harvestors you have to sell about 6,000 of those. That still leaves you with 10,000 resources to craft with!
So you can get 10,000 resources a day without running missions or sampling if you harvest.
Radav, first of all, you're selling your houses for too little. On my server a small house from an architect goes for about13k.
Second of all I hate to be the one to tell you this but the architecture market is flooded at the moment. Unless you:
1. Have a PA backing you.
or
2. Have the money to upgrade to medium and or heavy harvestors.
You probably have a tough road.
There's too many architects. Supply is greater than demand. Perhaps you should consider a different profession?
Regardless of how efficient it is to sample or to harvest have they made an official declaration against the use of in game macros?
I would agree that the only purpose of the pop up seems to be to stop macros. The few times I have tried for the deposite It didn't seem worth while to me for the 300 action cost. Then again maybe it's just to break up the monotony for surveying. Like they actualy talked to that one guy who enjoys sampeling all day...
I don't even use a macros other than one each for hide, bone and meat but this took me all of 5 min to figure out a work around like the person a few posts up suggested.
I guess if they are "officialy" against the use of IN GAME macros that can run for extended AFK sessions than,
A: Post this in the patch messages. (or is it already in the EULA?)
B: Find a better answer because this still doesn't solve the problem. (If that was the intent.)
My opinion is they let it slide. If someone wants to pay them the monthly fee for a game they aren't even playing then who cares? Surely not SOE billing.
