Thread: Retarded artisans!
Big waste of time. By the time I got on and made some vehicles, everyone had one and got it for a song and dance. Not to mention that every Shuttle/Starport is cluttered with unstoreable vehicles. I was embarrased to to sell them once I saw that fiasco. I busted my ass to get ready for this, and I will now loose money on the whole thing. Would have been better offmakinga few for friends and myself and concentrated on making other stuff.
By the way I paid 700 credits in the 1st 1/2 hour I had my vehicle out! What the hell is that all about? These are pretty much a throw away item if that maint rate keep up. The selling price will have to be low once everyone figures out the rediculous maintenance costs.
Sad day to be an artisan.
I waited till the idiots selling at 30k ran out of 1400 HAM "grind quality" vehicles and then charged exactly what i wanted:- 100k for a speeder bike 125K for swoops... didnt bother with landspeeders.
We nearly tripled our investment and have free bikes for ourself.
Right now to free up some skill points
I agree that the decay rate is insane, but quite possibly it might help generate the TRUE Master Artisans some income over time as the people who went MA just for the bikes are going to have to free up some skill points eventually. Those of us who truly wanted MA for CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT will be the ones making high quality (I hit 93% today as highest) vehicles.
I personally chose the Artisan path because IRL I'm an engineer and a surveyor. Architect in this game is basically a civil engineer, so the part really appealed to me. Just so happens, a few days after I started playing the game I found out that Master Artisans were going to be the ones who make vehicles. "Great!" thought I, a source of income that might help me afford to have some decent stuff in my house. However, just yesterday in Bestine (Scylla Galaxy) I had 4 people ask for training in the Artisan skill tree because they were grinding to be able to make the vehicles.
I read the news at work that prices were low. By the time that I got on after work everyone already had a vehicle. I assumed that prices were still low. I was able to sellthree vehicles. one for 20k, one for 25k, and one for 30k. Then I sold a fourth one for 10k, but he was in my guild. Please don't tell me that I could have been asking more, or I really dropped the ball. Were people really paying 100k?
Oh well, the first twoI sold were only 50% ones anyway, the second two were 84%.
In any case, I made a small profit. I won't have to run any survey missions for a week or two at least. And I still have 10 vehicles left and 80k of amazing quality Ditanium Steel, good for making those Advanced Sword Cores! To bad I can't find the skill points for merchant, or I could actually sell my weapons!
BTW, if there are any enterprising Master Merchants on Gorath who want to buy weapons from me at wholesale prices and sell them on your own vender, send an ingame email to ee-Jaasz. Maybe we can figure something out.
And, look on the bright side Master Creature Handlers, vehicles are so expensive to run that mounts are going to be around a long time!
/agree
I had planned to sell my vehicles in the 50k-100k range but when I logged on every Tom, D*ck and Harry was selling them for 10k-20k. I hear the arguments about price gougingand I dont agree that it is. You pay more than 5cpu forstim B, harvestors, powerups, food, clothing, etc. (none of these have to be madeby an elite artisan) But not for a vehicle?
Weapons, armor and now clothing decay. Some at a rapid rate depending on use.But I still see them selling for over 20cpu. This does not ruin the economy. There are a lot of players with millions of credits and nothing to spend it on.
An elitecombat character can easily make a 50-100k credits per hour doing missions. Master weaponsmith can make more than that stocking one vendor. Luck out and find a holocron, you can sell it in minutes for 5 million+ credits. Force crystals found on newbie spawns are selling easily for over 100k. A tailor sells a metal bikini top for 12k. A carion spat mount sells for 10k. A resource salesman can sell horrible quality Lok wheat at 10cpu. I could go on and on. That is the state of the game. There are a lot of credits floating around with nothing newto spend it on but vehicles.
I have a TKM/CH character, a Master Doctor/Master Dancer character, and my Master Artisan/Master Entertainer character. My first 2 characters would not have flinched at a 100k price. They have millions with nothing to spend it on and was completely expecting to pay that. Each of them could easily make 100k credits in an hour or less.
In a game where its easy to pick up a gun and make millions, why cant a vehicle cost more than a mount or a single article of clothing?
This is a prime example how artisans shoot themselves in the foot so they can remain slaves to the resource dealers who are the richest in the game. I dont understand the logic, Resource dealers can sell for 5-10cpu but the crafted item only goes for 3-5cpu or else it might ruin the economy. Just stupid.
Who are you trying to protect from price gouging anyway? The numerousmultimillionaires in this game twiddling their thumbs to spendtheir credits on the next new thing? Like with mounts. Sell high to these guys who wont miss the credits anyway and are dying to be first to have the latest thing and let thesupply and demandadjust the price for everyone else over time.
I gave 3 vehicles away to close friends ,
tI didnt make another one becase honestly there is more money in selling the resources.... its hilarious to think these knuckleheads are going as low as 1cpu.... I will sit back and let them use all of the resources up and just drive the market value of steel even higher thanks guys I love you...
I got Master Artisan before vehicles hit test. I was happy to see the schematics hit MA versus Eng IV. I started hoarding a portion of my resources away for vehicle day.
I advertised low prices and I sold day one at those same low prices.
Why?
Do you think that I am one of those that is ruining the fortune hunters life?
Do you think I am one of those that is killing your market?
Maybe so, but I guess I am special then.
I have a PA that has supported me whole heartedly during my days as a broke ass arhcitect/artisan. I have a city with people that go out and get me resources, burn their unused lots for my harvestors, and give me items that they would normally sell for their own profit because I have sacrificed a number of those abilities for the city at large. I have friends that tip me up to 5X what I would charge them for items made, just to insure that I can continue doing what I do.
So, when vehicles came out, I found myself in a unique position to give back to them and those like them. I sacrificed the million credit day one income for the greater good, just as they have sacrificed time and time again for my greater good.
If you are not so priviledged to be in a situation like that, then I am truly sorry for ruining your life or your economy, but I am not sorry for doing what I do.
Also, selling cheap vehicles that show extreme wear in the first few hours or running is not bad for the market, since the Devs atually guaranteed us a repeat market with the extreme decay.
I am on Lok. I am on Starsider. I am a Master Artisan. I am proud to give back to my community and friends. I do not apologize for having a priviledged (virtual) life.
Those who are selling for those low prices are missing out on an opportunity to make a lot more credits and also depriving other MAs as well. I made up a stock of vehicles and headed down the the Coronet City starport only to find someone selling them at barely over 5cr/unit. I put them on my vendor at a higher price and will wait for supply to diminish before heading back to hawk them.
If you're a MA who's selling low because you believe the others are gouging; remember that people aren't just paying for a vehicle, they're paying to have a vehicle now. They will have it before others who are waiting for the price to go down and they won't have to wait to be speeding around town. Also, for those who have been playing seriously for a while, they already have the best weapons, armor, etc. they can find and have large bank accounts with not much to spend it on. Many will be indifferent to the high price.
I was another person who was eager to sell a few vehicles. My partner and I figured minimum 30, 40 and 55K for the Landspeeder, Speederbike and Swoop respectively. We had enough resources to sell about 30 vehicles or so. Figured it would be a fun day. I brought my crafting droid with me so that we could make them per demand. Needless to say, I didn't sell a single one. I got a few tells from people who saw my Master Artisan tag. When I told them my price, they laughed and said "I can get them as low as ___ from ___." I said, "Fine. Go ahead then."
I'll just put the metal on the bazaar for 6 cpu and make money the easy way. Or I'll make a big stash of vehicles for myself to keep if I give up Master Artisan.
Okay, to be fair, undercutting is a perfectly good way to make money, as long as YOU as the seller still make a profit. If it hurts someone else, tough for them. That's the way business works.
For those of you that argue that mounts sold for more than Vehicles, THAT was a matter of supply and demand. It's harder to get to be a master Creature handler than it is to get the relatively easy Master Artisan. Thus there were a LOT less master CH than master Artisan out there when they sold their mounts, thus the demand outweighed the supply and the price went up up up.
In this case, the demand was equal to the demand, so the prices had no chance to reach the phenominally high amounts that mounts were able to make. MA's did get a good object to sell to the masses, if they're loosing money on their deals, then they're fools and won't last long making much of anything will they? Those of use who are smart enough to know what rate to sell at and cut a profit while being able to out-do your competitors will live happily with our credits.
If you can't take the heat of capitalism, then stop trying to sell things.
