npc's have reacted to pc fights since at least august, because thats when i started playing, and sometimes i would go to anchorhead and if there was pvp, the waypoints would be vacant but sometimes i could find the target by checking all the npc's in the area.
but, what neeun is talking about is a valid bug, its been happening since the publish that said they changed the npc spawns, something around 10.2 or so, sometime in september.
as soon as this publish went live i noticed this problem, and i know its not only artisan missions.
they changed it so all delivery missions only spawn npc's at certain coordinates, so any delivery mission can have this problem, including faction missions, which i have personally experienced.
since the npc's only spawn in certain coordinates now, this has somehow funked up the system, npc's wont spawn sometimes, the only real suggestion i have is to report it every time it happens. the devs may get annoyed with hundreds of bug reports about the same problem everyday, but what else can you do?
they dont read all the boards here, and they dont read all of (any of? im putting my money on this one) the petitions on the boards (i dont know why people keep starting them), so if you bug it every time, they will eventually get the message.

I have seen NPC's run away that were mission npc's before. Because they were mine, and there was a battle really close to them. and you don't have to have an area affect to get them to run.
Majority of the time, they will walk back to their spawn point after a few minutes. It all depends on how far they ran scared. So, that might be a part of you problem.
The other thing i seen, which should not happen with artisan missions, but the mission npc was killed by another player. Seen that also happen before, most times by my fat finger syndrome (hitting the wrong button).
Try checking the npc's that are around the area, give it a few minutes, they may just show back up.

Neeun, althought i agree with you, you'll find they are attacking the more important issues. As a soon to be third time master ranger. As well as starting my second climb up DE. I think i have a good understanding of unloved professions. I might as well try carbiner/SL/Ranger to really find a reaon to be angry.
Artisan missions are based on combat level. This has been broken since the beginning. The devs are aware of this issue. If it was an easy fix we would have seen it. There must be some bigger underlying issue thats holding it back from being on your crafting levels. Unless they shift from combat level to basing it on artisan experimentation (I have to wonder if this idea came up since it would equal what level of artisan non-elite you are). We can expect this to stay the way it is for a long time to come.
Right or wrong, and again i agree wrong, they have focused since pub 8 on jedi twice, JTL, now the really delayed combat upgrade (insert new acronym here), and have smuggler and ranger once those are done.
Who knows maybe someone will see my suggestion for making this an easy fix. Maybe i'll PM Guru so he can pass it along. But being bitter doesnt get our problems fixed. It just makes us angier about them. I try to focus on simple solutions that dont take much dev time since those are what gets done.

Gotta admit it here, Im now mastering Artisan for the second time. Ive never done these missions. I'll give them a try tonight.
First time I mastered was December 2003when we all got our free holo's. Being the wily crafter I was I started selling crafting tools like crazy, I probably sold about 20 of em before I figured out that they could be improved with experimentation. Actually completely stumbled on the product...was sitting in the med center getting healed after a ... painful radioactive sample try and someone asked me to make them a bunch of tools. From that moment I was a tool crafting fool. I didnt even know about crafting missions...maybe they werent in at that time.
Believe it or not I got to Engineering 4 just byusing the resources I could gather by hand. What a shock it became when I put down my first terrible quality harvs...a couple days later I had managed to master Artisan and was earning all of my income selling good quality hand crafted craft tools to holo grinders. The popular grinding macro at the time required 8 tools, I was selling them for 2k each. I thought I was doing pretty good.
This time around I just bought a bunch of harvs and threw em down, so again I havent paid any particular attention to arti missions. I imagine its a bit harder for new Artisans to make a living on crafting pre-master these days. But back in the holo-craze it was a blast.

I have got to ask Kalano...exactly how did you attack these white npcs?? I have both a nuetral and a reb and neither is allowed to attack ANY, I repeat, ANY of the artisian mission NPCs. Like I said, master artisian three times...ran hundreds of these missions...and have NEVER seen one that was vulnerable to attacks.
Someone please enlighten me...because either I'm playing a different game than those who mentioned these particular artisian quest npcs are vulnerable to attack...or we are talking about different mission NPCs.

Thanks Guruweaver for highlighting this for the devs, since the 50+ bug reports i've sentseem to have done nothing but waste even more time.

I ran Artisan missions from Dee'ja Peak to Moenia, Naboo a lot when I was new. That's how I initially made some good cash to get myself started. The NPC's randomly just weren't at the destination waypoint fairly often. It was my first, and a very early, introduction to how buggy this game is, and how unresponsive the Dev team can be for fixes.
Given that these missions are predominantly performed by new players for xp and some quick cash, it seems to me that the Devs would benefit their game by making the initial experience of a player to be a FUNCTIONING one.
It's frustrating to spend 5 to 10 minutes travelling somewhere, playing the game, and getting no reward for your efforts. It was a pretty poor way to be introduced to SWG. So, I guess I'm hoping the Devs eventually fix all this type of junk that makes this game look bad from the first time you login.
Not holding my breath, though. I bugged this all through February and March earlier this year, to no avail. Really makes you feel like your effort to /bug anything goes to the big trash bin of SWG.

Um.........the vunerable ones are out in the wilds. the cities one are not vunerable, but are easly scared. I am sorry if i was confussing. But i have seen fights break out between players and vunerable npc's (imps, rebs, corsec, thugs, ext.) that caused the mission npc's to up and run. Not sure if it is less or more now. But i have seen it before. Infact, i laughed really hard the first time i saw one do it. It also made sense then because i seen them walk back to waypoints they were suppose to be standing at.
This was before player cities were around so there was a lot more fights going on in the npc cities. I will have to test it out to see if it still happens or not. But it has happened, and it sounds like it still does.

The only npc's I have seen in these mission are in npc cities...I've never had a mission that led to an npc out in the wild. That's very likely because after I figured out I could just use two close cities and hop between, that's all I looked for on the mission terms.
I didn't realize they had artisian missions to locations other than npc cities.
I've seen the white conned city npc's react to a few more fights recently...it is kinda funny....but I've not seen one return or even been able to find them after they flee....after giving what I thought was a good amount of time and effort.
Thanks for clarifying.

Apologises for bringing this thread up again.
I started a new character on Eclipse yesterday. Wanting to make money I decided on running crafting mission from Eisley to Anchorhead. I got two missions from terminals, got the parts and flew to Anchorhead. My contacts weren't there. Tried again, no contacts.
This is one of the good ways for new players to gain cash to help them out, it also gives good artisan experience. I've bugged it but I doubt it'll get fixed, they'd rather add more pointless loot
Looks like I'll be running combat missions

i used to do the same thing but between coronet and vreni island, i know that doesn't solve the problem of the missions being broke in AH but its another possibility

All I remember from my Novice Artisan mission days is going from Moenia to Deeja Peak thousands of times for the 1.4k a pop crafting missoins.
