Thread: pricing for vehicles?

Unless the devs figure out a benefit for creature mounts that is overwhelming, that market is going to dry up.
Mounts also can act as attackers and draw off an enemy. Vehicles are basicly transportation only.
15K-20K sounds about right for this. 10K sounds a bit low but we will see. What is the turnaround on swoops and speeders? Once you add that the typical player will go through a speeder in X amount of time plus the number of sales per day/week, you then should be able to price them out. Time will only tell.
What is the level of artisan that can create each vehicle type?
According to the expanded universe online databank, Luke got 2000 credits for his landspeeder because newer better ones were cutting into the market. He paid 2500 for it initially.
However the movie economy has no bearing on the game. Lando made a fortune selling ore and gas. And I'm pretty sure that food didn't cost more than guns either.
Luke got 2000Cr for his landspeeder?
I read in another post somewhere else that the Millenium Falcon was 50,000.
Remember ... the film was made in 1977. In 1977 50,000 sounded like an awefullot of money, when the script was being written.
In 1977 my parents had a house worth 6,000. Same house now costs in excess of 300,000.
Gee, at that rate of inflation, the Millenium Falcon is now worth about 2,500,000.
and a landspeeder, 100,000.
Doesnt have anything to dowith the SWG economy of course, just an observation. :-)
Well, these are credits not dollars are marks or lira or yen. None of us are galactic economists, much as we might like to think so, and we don't really have anything to add to the price of Luke's landspeeder or Solo's spaceship more than conjecture.
In the game, however, we've seen how things work. Hardly anyone will charge less than 3 credits per unit of resource required for anything, be it a biscuit or a house. Scare resources (even if it's just a perceived scarcity) will draw much greater values.
As for myself, I'm a chef not a mechanic. If you want me to snap you together a speeder bike then I'll do it for 5k or under. Maybe even free if you provide the resources. Every guild has someone who'll be able to make these things and every newbie artisan in the city won't be far behind. I know and see people who STILL don't have mounts because the creature handlers have collectively kept the price artificially high on my server. You won't see that happening with vehicles. There's too many people who can make them and they simply aren't hard to get at all.
If experimentation and quality of materials matters at all, then eventually you'll see a market for higher end vehicles start to emerge. I'd pay more for a bike that was more durable or faster than the average. Most people would. If none of that matters, then expect the price to hit rock bottom, and if it turns out to be a great crafting xp item then you can expect people might even be giving them away.
As i said somewhere else, i expect the price to quickly fall to 1 to 3k for a standard bike. At the time i said that, i was not sure about the amount of materials needed (and still am not certain). I am not trying to rain on anyones parade or undermine capitalism on SWG, just pointing out that:
1. personal harvesters now sell in that range now on my server
2. 25% of all players are artisans
3. They apparently do not require unusual materials to make.
If we are allowed to experiment in anyway, that might be a way for artians to chargemore. High performance bikes might be in demand for racing, for example.
Again, because 25% of the population is already an artisan, you have to be realistic. Why on earth would I pay 35k for your bike, when i can go to half the other people in town or move up the artisan tree quick to do it myself.
If you know anyone who absolutely will pay 35k for a new speeder. Send them my way. I will give them a free CDEF pistol. I normally sell them for the bargin price of 5k. They will need it to fight of the snipe out there in the wilderness.....
*waves and grins*
--saphie--
Which is part of why it should be moved to Master Artisan.
What percentage of all players are Master Artisans? No idea .. but hazarding a guess maybe 2%?
Much much better. No oversupply then.
Actually i wouldnt want vehicles to sell at 35K either, but i think 15-20K would be reasonable for a good quality vehicle.
I paid 15K for a gurreck 2 months ago and hes still my constant companion .. when im not using my mount that is. That was a good investment. He's saved my butt many times.
I would have gladly paid 20K for a mount too. Its also a good investment.
Butat the time baby critters that could later be trained into a mount were selling at 30K, and fully grown/trained mounts for 100K+
So I decided to get CH for a week .. tame my own carrion spat, and later get someone to train it to mount. Did that and so my mount cost the price of learning Novice CH, and the 1000 i paid someone to train it.
Im rambling .. but my point is really that 15-20K for a good quality vehicle is a good price. If i wasnt a Master Artisan, and couldnt make it myself then I would gladly pay that.
And thats how i price my wares. 'What would I gladly pay for the item?'
I'd bet that Vehicles won't be an Elite profession until there are more than three of them to build, and more components and options to put in them. Of course I'm only a noob with a few hours in, but in game design terms that seems pretty sensible.
I'd personally be very disappointed if they weren't an MA item though, there should be some sort of status attached to them.
personaly it realy pissed me off seing CH's and BE's taking the piss with there pricing on mounts even now some are selling them for 50k+ and that is diabolical for many of the peeps that need a mount or vehical to get around.
i for 1 dont mind u undercutting the CH's and BE's because they are just manopoliseing the market i have been giving away mounts but there are too many CH's for me to make a differance.
Good Luck to u if u keep thoughs prices

"Well i'm thinking around 5-6 cu except for ch's 100k a peice for them."
Very funny.
CH mounts were expensive because a CH can only hold 16 at a time, takes five days to 'cook' them until they are mountable, and every one they hold for sale is one less weapon they can use to hunt.
Vehicles, afaik, can be made in crates and stored in a backpack.
These things will be inexpensive. They were placed on Engineering IV specifically so they would be easily obtained. Simply put, I think the Devs realized the game wasn't very Star Warsy with people walking everywhere and every other Commando witha giant monkey in tow, and placed the vehicles in exactly the sort of place to INSURE the galaxies would be flooded with them within hours.
Kudos to them for doing so. I just hope they don't do the same thing with spaceships. I'd like to see the swoops/speeders sort of play the same role for artisans as the personal extractors do before moving on to Architect, with an Elite Profession taking over the more complex vehicles to be added later.
