Thread: pricing for vehicles?

I'm a master artisan and I don't make much money from it (other than resources, but I don't need MA to do that).I have been looking forward to vehicles to remedy this fact. Here's my opinion: charging only for resource cost = dumb. Does McDonald's only charge you for the amount of beef in the hamburger? no they charge more or else a hamburger would be about 10 cents. I think underpricing has hurt our profession A LOT and I would ask all new artisans or otherwise to stop doing it. Ask around and check on the market before selling and don't undercut the other guy. Mounts were selling for 300k the first day ( yes I thought this was crazy), but vehicles should be priced higher than 5-10k double that at the very least. Architects band together and charge 1million for a city hall but we all know it doesn't take a million in resources to make one. In other words show some respect for your chosen profession and keep the prices at a level that makes this a viable profession.

Btw thanks to tych for posting just what you need to make vehicles!

The one thing I know... CH and BEs are going to be royally pissed about vehicles since no one will want a creature mount when they can buy a vehicle for soooo much less than what creature mounts are going for and vehicles are faster, cooler, and just well, more desirable. Unless the devs figure out a benefit for creature mounts that is overwhelming, that market is going to dry up.

I am seeing 10-15k from artisans on Bria and at least one is taking pre-orders with a guaranteed price of 10k for a pre-ordered vehicle no matter what the market does on the first day. She said she will be charging 15k otherwise.

People are aiming too low.

I make a point of only using high quality resources when crafting, because i want a reputation of only prodicing high quality goods. High quality resources do not sell for 3 creds per unit, they sell for 6, 8 10 or more depending on how rare they are.

So to make a resonable profit, and to me reasonable means a 50% on large items, the price will need to be between 12 and 20 cpu, and hence 24000 - 40000 for a excellent quality vehicle. I would probably aim for the lower end of that.

However, because unfortunately youll only need Engineering 4 to make them, therell be too much comptetion and the market will probably be destroyed by people wanting a quick buck. Prices will fall to laughable levels.

You can buy flimsy dancers dresses for 5K, good weapons for 5K, good vehicles should cost significantly more.

The way things appear to be going, everyone will very quickly have a vehicle because theyll betoo cheap, and after the initial high demand, demand will drop to next to nothing compared with the oversupply caused by thousands of artisans with Engineering 4.

Solution: Make it an elite profession!

If thats not possible: Require Master Artisan to make them.

Please please avoid oversupply and market collapse!

What kind of game is SWG now?

Pre-CU:
Master Artisan, Master Shipwright, Master Merchant, Pistoleer 0020:
Favourite Weapon: FW-G5, Happy
After CU:
Much the same, but CL 54, Favourite Weapon FW-G5, Still happy
After NGE Game Downgrade:
Trader (Structures), same skills as every other trader in same specialty, CL2, can only use a CDEF, and no armor, NOT Happy -> Cancelled Account

You make 10 of them and you go from Artisan 4004 to Master. You make 11 and you're an armorsmith, make 18 and you're an architect.

If this is true then its highly unbalancing, and yet another reason why vehicles should be an elite profession, or at the very least restricted to Master Artisans.

The reason the pricing system for all crafting professions is screwed up:

Lack of depth of the market. We have to compete on price because there is no other way we can compete in the system the Devs have provided us with. Sure, there is some differentiation between high quality and low quality products (only for weapons and armor), but even that is very limited. We dont even have an effective way of advertising.

The current system constricts the crafters to the point of cannibalism.

I was wondering if the vehicles come in deed form and how many can be carried in your data pad?do they count against your aloted 5 droid slots or your 2 creature slots.or do they have there on slot. nother question can you add storage compartements as you can on droids and how big?zJust curious I will sell them for 12 to 20 k on my server and I think it needs to be masterartisan to make and add power conditioners or something to the schematic to make them more complex.

I think Luke said he only got "fifteen hundred" for his speeder, and he was disappointed with that... "since the XP-38 came out, there just isn't any demand".

Of course, we have all heard "Ten thousand?! We could almost buy our own ship for that!"

I won't charge less than 10k for mine, otherwise it won't be worth the effort to make them and stock my vendor. I may start at 15 to 20k and see how they sell.

How about you can fight from a mount, and not a vehicle?
