Thread: WHAT!?!?!? Cant sample worth crap anymore!!!
It takes a few thousand credits to start mining. It's not like you need millions. Yes it takes a bit of time and planning, but its not that impossible. That math I've seen in other posts is right on.
If you have 3000 credits or so you can buy a wind generator and plant it on a good spot. Let it run for one days and gather up a fair bit of power. On a 50% spot that's 3600 units for one day. That will run one harvester for 6 days or 2 for 3 days.
You can sell some of your power for money or you can run various missoins, sell some thigns, sample do whatever you want.
The next day go out and plant your harvester and fill it up. The next day you will have a couple thousand units of whatever to work with.
It takes time but slowly you can build your money up so you can run more harvesters. I started small, but now I have 9 harvesters running. I sell what I make though. If you are just grinding you problaby will have to run missions more than I did. I dont' eat resources as fast as some others.
I think that might be why it's called "Sampling" instead of "Intensive Mining"..
I think that later on it's just meant to "sample" something to find it's quality, if it's what you need, then toss down some harvesters.
I also despise the new and improved sampling. I used to sample during 'grinding' and found that because of it, I'd be able to extend my time grinding. No longer though. Some stupid window either pops up and kills my tool window or my character simply stops sampling.
I hate this change with a passion. They need to make it OPTIONAL. So far, Ive found no way to allow my character to simply sit and sample as I grind as I used to do.
Not to mention my character is butt ugly now .... why the hell the devs decided to change the look of the MonCal females without notification to the players is beyond me. My character looks sun burnt and bloated and is now 100% lacking in breasts. Unfortunately, it sounds as if neither the breasts nor the markings my character used to have are recoverable. =/
It is a good solution to afk macroing.. but it is VERY Annoying when I'm trying to craft, I ALWAYS sample while crafting, experimenting, whatever - why waste time? I'm sampling ALL THE TIME. ![]()
There should be like some way to tell if the person is AFK or there - it'll only come up if they're AFK, but not if they're pushing buttons and crafting and stuff.. Very annoying.

That's the whole point....macroing in-game is no longer allowed.
Then why do we still have that Menu for creating our own in game macros? That's right hit Cntrl+A and click the box labeled "macro" then create your own macro.
If you were correct this patch would have also removed this funtion from the client. As of right now i can still create new macros. *shrugs*

Radav -the basic idea of the macros is to make tasks that are a pain much easier. Like harvesting, looting, doing a combination of attacks (Knockdown, Legshot, Legshot) and sampling, to name a few.
However, we're not supposed to be AFK.. So basically, the non-sampling macro would be this :
F1: /stand;/sample
F2: /sit
Press F1, sit there and be bored until your action runs out, press f2 until it comes back, repeat.
Blah.
true. But realisticly, how many people are going to sit in front of their computer eight hours a day to get the resources needed to advance their architects? I'm not saying i go afk for days at a time just sampling, but we have real life to worry about too.
some of us have jobs that contend with SWG. if it wasn't for macros i wouldn't even be architect yet. Sampling is boring. Plain and simple. Of all the things to limit AFKers, why choose this one?
To the exent of nerfing afk "Miners" (I use that term loosly, because there isn't a miner profession anymore) that sell their resources for waaay too much a unit, i can see the point. That really does help throw a wrench into the economic structure. From that angle i can agree with this change.
There is a downside that we must all live with. I'm upset that with school starting and working part time, i will probably not advance my architect character ever again, and that disappoints me. I really was enjoying being an architect. It just costs more money to keep harvesters active, than money coming back in to me. I am on Shadowfire and while every other architect is trying to rake in profit selling small houses for 13-20k, i'm selling mine for below 10k. The exp is all that concerns me. 10k per house does not equal enough creds to keep 4-5 harvesters and 2 wind gens alive.
I don't have time to sit in front of the computer all hours, and well that's just how the cookie crumbles.
My only point in my above statement was that, if they don't want people to macro (AFK or Simplifying normal combat type actions) then they should remove the ability to macro altogether. People will find a way around it. Nerfing the problem, does not solve it. It simply offers an obstacle for the determened to work around.

umm.. harvesters aren't expensive at all.. seeing that I can sell a full 5 piece outfit for 1.5k ... that's more than enough to run a harvester for a day.. multiply that by the many dancers I dress in cantinas and destroy missions and artisan missions... you can run harvesters for months...
I, too, sample while crafting, and I found the popups highly annoying. It's not like they actually serve any *useful* purpose, or help you in any way.
And by the way, harvestors are very cheap.
You can make resources at .6 cr a unit with harvestors. They sell for 3-6.
Perspective man, perspective. .6 vs. 6 is SMALL.
If you think they're "too expensive" then quite frankly you're either really low level, or doing something wrong.
Except for the fact that I can't afford to run ONE harvester, let alone 10. I don't know where people get all the credits they do, but the only way I get them is to do missions (which I'm sorry don't pay THAT much) or to sell what few droids I can make, but that ends in either me getting yelled at because they "don't work" or having people demand their money back because they "don't do anything". So I guess this is the end of the line for this Master Artisan/Droid Engineer. I knew there was a reason I just bought KOTOR...

Yeah, I've done the math. Harvestors also work while I'm away from the game and asleep.
Also, you can have 10 harvestors, how many samplers can you have? 1.
Sampling only beats harvesting if you AFK macro.
Do the math.
