Thread: WHAT!?!?!? Cant sample worth crap anymore!!!
What is this, "Higher concentration found, do you want to try the higher concentration or ignore?"
Sampling used to suck as is, harvesters took to long and cost to much, but self sampling meant coming back to resample every twenty minutes. Well, I went for every 20 minutes coming back and hitting sample again. That way I got stuff done in my life, like cleaning, school work, taking care of kids, etc etc...
Then when I had real free time, I would use the mined materials to make my goods. NOW, a stupid window pops up every 3-5 minutes saying a higher concentration has been foune and do I want to mine it or ignore it. Well, that stops my character from doing anymore sampling!!!
Does anyone like this change or see a reason???
Sure it stops macroing, but hey, if the macroing ingame is used to do it, then it should be allowed, and as for out of game (third party) macros, Puhleeese, do you think this dumb change will stop people from using them? I did a google search, and with in 4 hours of the patch, I found a macro that takes care of this dumb pop up window. I have avoided macros so far, but now what can I do? I'll give it a week for this "Pop-up" widow to be erased, and then i'll either use a third party, or just quit the building profession or even the game all together.
Please support me here, does anyone like the pop-uo window?
Thanks for letting me rant

I haven't sampled for more than, well a sample, in weeks, so I don't really care.
Buy some harvestors I say.
But those who can't bear to leave the extra production behind will argue otherwise.
I'll bet resource prices SOAR. No longer can you pull in 4k a day without harevstors.
Mark my works...10+ per resource by the end of the week, if people even bother selling them anymore.
Have you done the math on harvesters? I put one down for some link-steel aluminum in a 97% concentrate spot. Turned it on, then started sampling right next to it. In the 20 minutes my action bar lasted, I sampled 387 units, my harvester got a whopping 32 units in those 20 minutes. not to mention that it uses up sampled resources for power, and some credits for maintenence.
"Buy some harvesters"
Please, its a waste or was a waste of my time, credits and resources to build and maintain harvesters when I can do it faster when I am only partially engaged in the game and taking care of things IRL.
This will make the Architect line that much more difficult. Even with 10 harvesters total (with wind generators) I cant keep up in materials.
Doesnt help when new artisans cant sell anything either.
It would be nice if you could get more harvester deeds as you progress through the Artisan line. Say 1 for each level for a total of 5 extra if and when you hit master. Would help somewhat for sure.

That's the whole point....macroing in-game is no longer allowed. I think you hit the nail on the head...Everyone's been saying, if they didn't like in-game AFK macro sampling, then they wouldn't allow it. Well, it looks like they have had their final say.
Yeah, I've done the math. Harvestors also work while I'm away from the game and asleep.
Also, you can have 10 harvestors, how many samplers can you have? 1.
Sampling only beats harvesting if you AFK macro.
Do the math.
Hey all,
I make tons of money on harvesting. I have two or three going for my own (medical) crafting at any given time and 4 or so on other resources that I can sell. I sell 1000 resources for 2900 on the bazaar. My stuff sells FAST! Steel, fiberplast, copper and aluminum sell the best. I look at what else is selling well to decide what to harvest but I try to keep my cash harvesting near my other stuff for convenience. It hurts to run around putting 2-3K in each harvestor (plus power - I have two solor thingies). At that point you might think you are losing money, but I think I get about a 250% return on the investment.
I am actually getting to the point now where I really dont need cash so I might just stop doing it...
Harvestors.... They are where it is AT!
Syd Stitches, Novice Doctor, Anchorhead, Tatooine, Tarquinas
On a 50% spot, 1 harvester pulls up 1,440 resources in 24 hours. It requires 720 credits to maintain, plus 600 power.
On a 50% spot of wind, 1 wind generator will produce 2,500 units of energy in 24 hours. It requires 1500 credits to maintain. Cost per unit of power = 0.6 credits.
Using 8 harvesters, powered by 2 generators, you will produce 11,520 units of resources in 24 hours. I will require 8,760 credits (harvesters + generators), and you will have 200 units of power left over.
Cost per unit of resource: (11520/8760) = 1.316 credits.
8,760 credits, at 3 credits per unit = 2,920 units sold (easily) on the bazaar.
Total profit: 8,600 units of resources, 200 units of power. Maintenance cost paid for by sale of resources.
If you were counting on AFK macro sampling to get yourself to Master anything (aside from Master Joke), you were never going to make it anyway. This doesn't change a thing.
This is a game, it has obstacles and challenges. Overcome those obstacles with the tools given.
My DE friend seems to do fine running some missions and managing his harvesters, and he never AFK samples, so here's a little tutorial for you. Here are your two choices, in general (there are many variations on them) under the old system:
1) AFK sample while you go do other stuff, like vacuum, read, play KotoR, etc.
Result in 1 hour on a 97% spot: You get about 1000 resources and a bunch of sampling XP you can't use cause you have survey 4.
2) Run missions while your 2 medium harvesterschurn away
Result in 1 hour on a 97% spot: You get enough money to pay for the harvesters and a windmill for a day PLUS combat XP that you can use. And maybe faction points if they were faction missions. Oh, and 130 units from the harvesters (so far).
Then, after that hour of play, you have to go to school, or work, or mom makes you go shopping, etc. If you went with plan 1, you can either stay logged in and run a looping macro and get more resources and worthless XP. If you went with plan 2, you can turn off your system or let someone else use it. Then come back tomorrow and unload your 10,000 resources from the two medium harvesters.
I'm using your estimates, btw, for the first group of numbers, even though you didn't take into account the 5 minutes you have to wait to recharge your Action bar. For the last number I'm using what I get in one day on a 97% spot from my two medium harvesters. How long do you have to sit around waiting for your guy to harvest 10k resources manually?
Then, when you get to the point where you can make advanced probots and R2 droids and load them up with modules (crafting, medic, etc), you can sell them for 20-30k each. You sell just ONE of those a day and you'll be able to run 8 medium harvesters no problem, and you'll have plenty of resources.

Sell 2000 of them on the bazaar for 8000 credits and you've got money for another day's harvesting, plus 10k resources, and you don't have to waste any more time macro sampling.

If you can't afford medium harvesters, that's fine. The same still applies to small ones, just buy 4. They cost half to run, and give half as many resources. Either way you can have more fun overall and make more money overall doing the way you're supposed to instead of trying to game the system in an ultimately stupid way.
