Thread: SE Starship Prices

it realy comes down to what will the ship be made of, who will be building it, and will it be customizable before and after purchase. 2 of those 3 could easily cause prices to rise not to mention simple supply and demand when the se first comes out. i started playing the week after vehicles were introduced and from what i could see on bria (i was still very noobish so wasnt paying alot of attention) but for a while there the price of a landspeeder was high 30 low 40. i could easily see a starship doing the same thing before settling down.

Master Shipbuilder to put the whole thing together

I like the idea of having each of the crafting professions help out on a ship, armorsmiths for armor, architechs build the frame, weaponsmiths... you get the idea.

The only thing I can't see is having a Master Shipbuilder profession, I mean, what would they build at the lower levels? I guess they could move vehilces to this skill tree but they would have to add a lot of choices otherwise it wouldn't be any fun for the player.

I wouldn't mind seeing all the components come from the Master Crafters being assembled by a Master Artisian. Either way, ships should definatly be a group project.

Yeh, that's why I'm not in favor of all the classes working together. First, that would be more work than it's worth and would drive the prices way up. Second these other professions would want their share of the profit. More work added. Third, too many new schematics added to each profession. Fourth there's a world of difference between pistols and starfighter blasters, composite armor and blaster shields, houses and starships...you get the idea.

I think that's why there's hints about a Starship Engineer. It would be much easier to make a new profession than to add all those changes to exisitng professions. And I think the only con to the issue has been that Artisans won't have anything to do with it. And heck, I agree. Artisan to me is just a stepping stone to the elite crafting professions. Kinda like going to a junior college to get your general studies done. It means nothing till you get the bigger degree. (or Master Elite)

it could all start off like the vehicals, well, as it is now, just 3 sets of resources but in bigger amounts. But, there is a whole new area of game associated with it (space)
where as vehicals are like fast mounts that you craft.

I dont think there should be one proffession that can craft everything, especially if there is going to be such an enormas price on them for final sale.

who ever thinks they should charge 'real' money for the SE is insane. we have bought the game and we pay our membership. people with too much money to spend on games donot have more rights than the less well off.

ummmm

i hope that when it arrives it is not like the vehicals I would like it to be more complicated. Im a master artizan and im goning to leave all my extra crafting xp untill i know if i can go into a ship crafting proff.

maybe one proff could be able to put it all together and the other proffs from eng could make the parts. but then somepeople would be able to do both or all of them at some lesser level.

there is know way of know ing or guessing at any of it really untill we are told. no matter what a role play card game says. i doubt that will count for much. it will have more to do with how it will fit with this game.

Well folks lets just think about this a second.

What is the space expansion? Well its the introduction into SWG of Spaceflight.

Anyone who buys the expansion can reasonably assume that they will gain or have the ability to gain a means of flying in space fairly easily. The whole focus of the expansion is zooming around in space. In leau of further info this is the only logical conclusion we can draw, particularily if you are at all familiar with Lucas Arts previous "Space" titles.

Whats this mean?

Well of course it means that the space ships will be attainable by everyone who buys the expansion. Which in turn means that thier creation and subsequent pricing will be within reasonable reach of the casual player. Believe it or not the vast majority of players are of the "casual" persuasion, a couple of hrs a night, maybe 10-12 a week.

This is not to say that more advanced types will not be available and be very hard to create and expensive to buy, but I think the vast majority will be smaller easily attained craft.

Additionally they will likely follow the same rules of damage/repair that all of the other vehicles follow. Yes I daresay they will find a cozy place in your Datapad right next to your R2 and Cu Pa. I highly highly doubt that combat in them will come anywhere close to the "seat of the pants" joystick jockeying of the X-Wing series games. It will almost certainly be a case of /autofollow, /autoattack, perhaps swooping around with your mouse. However they do it my bets are on it following the same type of motion engine that the current vehicles have, ie. point the cursor where you want to go. (Although a certain Digital Anvil title did have a workable and fun mouse driven combat control system).

It will likely have special moves /barrelroll /loop that you only get for having skill in the Space Pilot profession.

I would love it if this wasnt the case but I have a hard time seeing any other outcome. Quite frankly the classic spaceship combat would take place too fast and be far too deadly. How near is the nearset cloning center to the Kessel Run anyway?

It wouldnt be anywhere near to fair to put us who started with the first X-Wing game (one 3.5" diskettes no less) against the average younger Counterstrike crowd (Ya right...those kids got some quick reflexes). I blew up the death star all by myself once...keep that in mind ya whippersnappers.

They will most likely be considerably more expensive than a speeder or swoop bike but still within reach of the average player.

Just my thoughts on the whole thing.

i totally agree with that last post. and we are not all CS whipersnapers i'll have you know.

anyway. yeah i agree totally on the controlling being almost exaclty like the vehicals and mounts control. it wont be complicated in anyway.

no matter how hard any one tries to keep ships to them selves you will make it easyier for other to make a mint by undercutting. thats what i would do, a ship for every1 as cheep as possible!

I personally think that they should make Starship designer a new profession, and instead of going off the Engineering 4 tree, make it a level above Master Artisan. It already takes a Master Artisan to make a speederbike....... and I see a starship as something with some similar technology to speeders, just at a much larger scale. So that'd be interesting to see...

Within an hour after spaceships are released, you can be certain there will be some fool at the starport shouting "spaceships for 1000 credits!!!"

I think it would be really cool to see all the professions already out there have to work togheter to make a ship. I mean, just one person putting these beastsies togheter? It would take a ship yard to assemble them. One person can't run a whole ship yard alone, even in the futuristic setting of Star Wars. I don't know, I guess I'm being way to realistic about the subject. I really don't care how they get into the game, I just want one.

...."spaceships for 1000 credits!!!" ...

God I hope not... No mater what form the Starships are built off of they should never go below 10,000 the price of a TIE fighter according to other sources...

If the starship builder profession is going to be a New profession it should be based off Master artisan at least... This way you cant just go up the engineering tree to get to the ship builder profession...

I still think the ship builder class should have to have support form the other Crafting classes... But thats IMO... If the shipbuilder is independant, and they start pulling in money faster than an AS or a WS or a DE people will be crying for the class to depend on the other Crafting class to do things...

As it stands now I have been doing some research on the Test Center Fourms for the materials needed to make the Vehicle paint Tools, and they need a DE componet to build one and its a Master Artisan Item...

so this is where I am getting my Idea for Starships to be dependant on other Crafting classes to make things....

If the problem is the schematics..

The MArt makes their standard components...

The MWS makes a Laser Cannon Power core, and Laser Cannon Barrel

The MAS makes Hull plating and Starship Shields power converters

The MArch makes Starship Hydrolics and Starship Storage Compartments

The MDE makesNav Computers and Sensor Systems

Thats 2 extra Master Level Schematics that would be added into the Class... I dont think thats too hard to keep track of them....

The Ship Builder Class could have schematics like the ones I am thinking up on the fly...

Starship Weapons Level 4 - Turbolasers

Starship Cargo frames - 100 Item Cargospace

Starship Reactor Level 6 - Enhanced Adv. Reactor systems

Life support enviroment - Clonning stationand up to 50 passengers

Starship Weapons - exotic systems

Starship Hulls Level 5- Heavy Transports

Ok thats just my ideas on the schematics that a could be inserted into the Shipbuilder class... Each of the things would take componets from the Listed Elite Crafting classes.... Later On If I feel like it I could break it down into subcombines and componets list... But I am not going to figure out the Materials and resources...

Its lengthy... But I think it give a good example on how to include a Ship builder class..

To whoever thought that they should not charge us for the SE, they will. Every game charges for the expansions. Diablo 2 did. Neverwinter Nights and Baldur's Gate did. Everquest did many, many times and still is. Asheron's Call did. Nothing makes SWG any different. Those with the money will get the benefits. Those who can't come up with 50.00(hardly expensive in most people's checkbooks) will just have to wait. If it means not going out on Friday night for 2 weeks to save the money to play the SE, ah well. It's worth it to me if they don't funk it up like they have so far. But odds are they won't break the MMORPG trend of charging for their expansions.
