Thread: SE Starship Prices
And the fact that there will be a Starship Engineer is inevitable. SOE will continue along the lines it has so far and take that route. Some ideas I have heard here and the DE forums in the past that sound good, and I think they should do are either:
1. Branch it off off Master Artisan the same as Ranger branches off of Master Scout.
2. Make it a super-elite class as they were thinking about in the beginning and branch it off of Droid Engineer/Architect. (they were also thinking of making Vehicle Tinkerer/Engineer a super-elite but I think that's been lost in the paperwork now) In other words, they were thinking of making a player take a tree or two in both Droid Engineer and Architect to qualify for Starship Engineer. This would mean that a SE could not do much in any other profession.

all i can say is LOL who the hell would pay 20cpu for a ship...that's like buying 100 minerals on the bazaar.....
Im willing to bet you pay 20 cpu or more for weapons.

Next, probably a whoooole lot of money. Let's face it. If Guild Halls take up thousands of resources, what do you think a Corellian YT Transport will take? I seriously doubt anywhere close to 50k or less. (and anyone that does charge that I'll personally hunt down and kill
)
But you want theory? Alright. Let's say a X-Wing takes 10,000 resources total. (now too bad since a landspeeder takes about 3k) Difficulty would be high, say around 40. (Starships aren't easy to make y'know) If I go with 10cpu plus profit with my formula(check the vehicle pricing thread), it would run about 140k for a X-Wing. That's pretty close to what it is in the book and paper game, and not bad since technically X-Wings are only sold to the military. Sooo, if you weren't a pilot, I would prolly charge closer to 200k to cover any fines put on me by the government.
Ok, I want to start by saying I know that stuff in SWG has nothing to do with logic or common sense lol. BUT, that said, if you have a starship that weighs 10x more than a guild hall - it'd never get off the ground. The cost of a starship should be all about the engineering invovled in building it - not tons and tons of resources.
90% of the cost of a space ship would the engineering costs, IMHO.
NASA is constantly trying to figure out how to make space shuttles and transports LIGHTER, not heavier. Now, granted, some things like the giant Destroyer class ships, are basically giant, heavy fortresses in space. They fly in space, they are built in space, they exist only in the weightless environs of space. Fine. But I don't think players are going to have personal Destroyers.
That leaves us with small, lightweight ships that might use a *LOT* of different *types* of materials (seems reasonable to me), but not a lot of quantity of materials.
Using the Art of Star Wars Galaxies (came with the collectors edition) is shows the basic concept for the air speeders and the star ships that we will more then likely see first.
Now giving that we don't know what it will take, I am sure a cool 500K for low end star ship with 1 million + for the high end ships works out. I mean since more then likely there will be at least one planet ( I hope a few more then that) that you have to have your own (to go on board one, again I hope) to get there. This clearly means that everyone will want one. Given the state of the economy where most (not all but most) players have at least 500K to spare at anytime, I don't see a problem with selling the ships at high prices. Of course that means Armorsmiths are going to be the first to fly ![]()
puck face, you are in no position to judge our financial situations.
i have £0 to spend on going out. all my money goes on bills and food. i spare the £7 for the swg fee and that is it.
i scrap by every month. so dont inforce your silver spoon cheque book led high-fly opinions here.
we should not pay for it as we were told that after the initial payment and the monthly fee that ws it. it will not be acceptable to charge for the expansion. and the fact that other games charge is totally irelevant.
/end rant on richy rich
i think super bon bad ships should need a co-operative of Master crafters, with either a master art to complete, or if there is a ship crafting proff it should be them, and thatthey can make all componats and build but at lesser levels than the team efforts.
i agree it should be more based on lots of componants than just huge piles of steel. i like with the med crafting, making and experimenting on all the componants, therefore making a wide variety of ships (even if they look the same) like a real fst one, and a really strong one, or one with super weapons etc. or all of them if you have made good enough parts.
there needs to be a lots of varitation within schematics so they can become a proper artform. unlike vehicals that are pretty much exactly the same as each other whoever made them.
i cant wait
Dont forget the GCW will get dragged into this at some point. I think it is fair that if you are not Imp you shouldnt be able to buya Tie Fighterand pilot it or a Tie Bomber Just like you cant have an ATST at the moment.
The same should go for rebels and X Wings. I must say Id rather get involved in GCW things with Space Expansion than the current combat system alone.
IMO:
It will probably cost between 35-50$ - the usual range for these expansions.
It will be twitched based shooter-style combat, not RPG type combat - this has been stated, I believe.
Everyone who buys the expansion will get a free (although very basic) spaceship, because otherwise people would complain too much.
"I highly highly doubt that combat in them will come anywhere close to the "seat of the pants" joystick jockeying of the X-Wing series games. It will almost certainly be a case of /autofollow, /autoattack, perhaps swooping around with your mouse. However they do it my bets are on it following the same type of motion engine that the current vehicles have, ie. point the cursor where you want to go. (Although a certain Digital Anvil title did have a workable and fun mouse driven combat control system)."
If you watch the E3 demonstartion of the SE they had a while back, it would seem to indicate that it's not going to follow this particular set-up. From the basic design at that point, it seemed more like a point and click method of attacking. After hearing joysticks will be supported, I'm fairly confident it will be alot more like X-Wing than SWG on the ground.
ScoutDiamond-whatever, say what you want. The fact is that they will charge you, and if 50.00, or 15 pounds, or whatever, is too much, oh well. This game is a luxury. As far as your scrapping, if money is THAT tight, why the heck are you playing this game then? If it's THAT tight, I'd be spending my money on better things, like food. ![]()
Btw, yeh I do have the money for the expansion. But not because I'm rich. I'm a student living month to month on a part-time job and student grants and loans. I think MAYBE I bring in 1000.00 a month.
Scoutmasterdiamond, I'm afraid that ever since the SE was first mentioned by the devs it has been made very clear that it will be a packaged, shop sold expansion that will be charged for and not downloadable. Whether you agree with that or not is up to you but at no point have the devs ever said that it will be free.
