hi we have a thread going at that link concerning the space expansion. a question was raised about how much a ship would cost, i know that you wont know how much you'll be charging until you see whats required to build one but plz feel free to post your own ideas and thoughts about it.

also we have advocated that even if only one profession can build starships that all the crafting professions be allowed to build upgrade parts for them.

thx for your time and perhaps if we get enough posts then the devs will take notice

10c/u at minimal. this time, start with a high price since it will be a ton of resources required, most likely will have a ton of sub-components going in and it will be a hard grind before anyone can make them with high quality and low failure rates.

keep them rare, unlike vehicles. dime a dozen.

Well, first off Artisans won't be making them.

Next, probably a whoooole lot of money. Let's face it. If Guild Halls take up thousands of resources, what do you think a Corellian YT Transport will take? I seriously doubt anywhere close to 50k or less. (and anyone that does charge that I'll personally hunt down and kill )

But you want theory? Alright. Let's say a X-Wing takes 10,000 resources total. (now too bad since a landspeeder takes about 3k) Difficulty would be high, say around40. (Starships aren't easy to make y'know)If I go with 10cpu plus profit with my formula(check the vehicle pricing thread), it would run about 140k for a X-Wing. That's pretty close to what it is in the book and paper game, and not bad since technically X-Wings are only sold to the military. Sooo, if you weren't a pilot, I would prolly charge closer to 200k to cover any fines put on me by the government.

Of course, if they take a lot of sub-components, you're looking at more. Don't be surprised to see the popular starships (X-Wings, YT-Transports, TIE Fighters) going for 500k-1mil.

good stuff so far guys.

I know that artisans are probably not going to be able to build starships (if they did i would laugh my umm well you know off) however since artisan is the base for most crafting professions i figured i would get a good cross-section of crafting types here.

As for the rarety of starships i'm not so sureif someone is willing to lose one in a card game (even a high stakes one) then i'm not so sure about their absolute rarity. i'd compare them to a fishing boat, not to many families have one but they are not uncommon or unknown either.

I see 4 things keeping them rare, $50 for the expansion, ingame price, pvp combat, resources needed to build them. If the resources needed are rare that would also drive the price up, possibly a good way to control the number of ships.

SOE wants us all to be happy though so i forsee that atleast smaller ships such as fighters being as common as speeders and swoops are now.

here was my idea to get some of the crafters involved

1: Construction

Get all the crafters in on starship construction, the basic hull could be constructed by Architects, Engines and Computers (nav and targeting) by Droid Engineers, Weapons by Weaponsmiths, Armor and Shields by Armorsmiths.

Allowing the majority of the crafters to be involved in Starship construction could cause slight difficulties, imagine the stress in the age of hologrinding of finding fellow crafters to make some of the components for you. However if Starships are made up of parts changeable by other crafters after the ship is built this could be bypassed. Have an Architect build you a basic ship, after a while you decide you want better armor and shields so you take it to a Armorsmith who upgrades both for you.

2: Customization

No not just color make everything costomizable. Stock weapons on your frieghter getting you down go to your local Weaponsmith and get an upgrade. Hyperdrive not fast enough? Track down a Droid Engineer to build you a better Nav System and Hyperdrive Motivator. etc etc

Slicing, this is supposedly illegal in the upcoming patch, rightly so i think, but if i can get a Smuggler to slice my carbine why wouldnt he be able to do the same to my Starship. Take your ship in and get the Armor Weapons Engines, and Computers sliced. Want more storage space? Have a Smuggler put in hidden compartments to store your loot. With hidden compartments Smugglers would be able to actually smuggle things past the heavy Stormtrooper patrols.

thx for reading my post and repyling so quickly everyone perhaps the devs will listen to some of our ideas.

LOL. Any fool with a harvester can dig up resources. You aren't paying for the resources, you're paying for the resources to be put together to make a starship.

Don't let the negative AFKophobes get you down. Play the game however you want.

Just wait until they nerf the merchants/vendors. Prices for everything will go up.

Thinking of all the components boggles the mind. Weapons, Armor, Shield Generators, Engine, Flight controls, is it cargo vs combat, R2 unit slot, R2 unit,......... we are talking a conglomeration of professions here. Will weaponsmiths get to design weapons, will armorsmiths do the armor. Artisans get to do the engines? Keep in mind the supposed reason that the game didnt launch at the same time as the SE is because the devs 'wanted to give players time to establish themselves before throwing starships into the mix'. These things are going to be highly experientable, highly customizable, and very, very expensive. On Bloodfin, im sensing 500k to a mil for the worst ships available and im betting the creme de la creme will be selling for millions more.

There has been talk and hints from the devs about a Starship Engineer profession, and I don't expect that not to go through. However they may make use of other professions too.

As far as ships costing 18,000, I'm pretty sure the Star Wars economy wasn't as ridiculous as the SWG economy. Heck, T21 Rifles cost 18k in this game. That's as much as a ship in Staw Wars.

And on the subject of ships costing over a million, remember the devs also stated they wanted to wait before releasing ships to give players a chance to "build up their credits". Hmmmm.

I'm not sure what I will charge, but I don't undercharge or overcharge. I have my system and I plan to stick with it regardless. Now on some military ships like Incom ships or TIE's, of course it will cost more. Those aren't civillian ships. But I wouldn't charge more than double cost for even those I imagine, but at the same time I plan to keep my prices comparable to the server I'm on if the server prices are higher.
