How would the crafting community be "shut down?" Folks would just have to pay attention to the resource spawns. And it won't be as hard to get good resource spots with only certified people placing harvesters. Just using one set of lots, I can easily get 400k of resources from a good spawn by myself. And that's not even using too many medium harvesters...mostly BER 4 personals.
So...I don't get it. Why won't people have enough resources? Most of what's dug up now is grinding quality and will become worthless after the jedi revamp. Well...almost worthless. After that, there will probably be intense competition for good spawn sites. That's of course as it should be. Except I don't think crafters should have to compete with TKM/Master Commandos for the spawn spots. I really don't think that's asking too much.
ok i read it again and my opinion stands. right now yes i do not need quality materials. but my only source of income is the selling of my clamps, knives, auk and wuk. and what ever pathetic level 25 missions the devs and the terminals deem i am capable of doing. just from a personal perspective. you take away my heavies. then im out of business, i cant volume enough sales to keep me afloat off of personal machines. yet alone this proposal expects me to pay someone else for what ever insane price they feal like charging since i will no longer be able to use my heavies? then if i do pay what ever price they charge (come on face it. its gonna be a price rape... no doubt about it. its gonna be pure monopoly by a few who can provide me the quantities) what price am i gonna have to then charge for my end products so i can buy those nice new shiny armor pieces that just just keep falling apart cuz of the decay system that is borked up and will the market pay what i need. on top of that im sure i will be unable to afford the weapons from my weapon smith "who i swear is the largest volume crafter in all the servers" his skill points are all tied up into master weaponsmith and merchant to be able to provide 3 pages of each type of weapon system on individual vendors. yet alone the factories to produce this kind of output. oh wait lets just assume that he is not master artisan or survey 4. well this proposal just shut him down for the same reasons as for me. he will either give up something that provides ease of service to his customers or just out right not be able to run the volume needed cuz he cant use his heavies. oh yeah lets not forget the architect as i did a 4 month stint as a master architect. what was it? 9k steel for a heavy gas machine. yeah shut him down to cuz he has to answer to a master artisan to provide him the insane volumes needed for those large houses (dont forget how much ore is in that baby at the sick resource shift percentages).
for the reasons above, there will be a dominance in quantities of resources ran by a select few who do have the skill points to acquire these certifications. and all crafters will have to answer to them. this will chain react to the simple pure pvp'rs who already pay way too much for armor and weapons as it is. this will raise the price across the board in all categories, even the ranger who needs guns to get the resources harvested for the armor smiths.
if the devlopers were to put a price cieling into the game for prices then i might vote yes for this system. but that will never happen. we all know how much it really costs to run a harvester and it does not justify the prices being charged for materials as it is right now. imo its only human nature to rape who ever it takes to make a buck (er credit) any way possible. in all the server communities can anyone make a guarentee that not one single person (out of how many hundreds of thousands of customers) will gouge the economy if this goes into effect? fwiw i charge approximately 200-300 credits per clamp (oh i think its 90 units to make one so im right at 3 cpu for a clamp. the so called going average rate that will end up raising if someone controls the market place)
as for the tkm master commando comment.. what can i say.. can they afford the current million credit armor just doing level 25 missions. im not sure.. but i currently have no problem buying some gas off of them so i can make some spice for guildies and for sale.
as it stands right now, im master smuggler master pistol and nov artisan so i can find the aluminum, chemical and flora as needed. and yes i will admit it. i have no problem when im caught up in materials i ahve no problem donating my heavy harvester army to the guild when a doc or the droid guy or who ever it may be needs some materials for making items. (and i was architect so if our guild archis need it they can use it, as i was there in the resource nightmare. right now my heavy army is on ore stocking up just incase our archi needs it. there is no damage or harm being done to the community by my actions in this. (it just takes me forever to find a good spot)

Sinist, I really wish you would go back through the posts in this thread and take a long hard look at your attitude. There were many very constructive posts on both sides of this issue but NONE OF YOURS WERE AMONG THEM. You clearly feel that you are some sort of uber-genious superior being who is insulted to even have to humor us petty people's execise of our ability to type. You have been hostile, insulting, and just plain DUMB the whole way through this. Thanks for taking a contentious issue and turning into your personal childish rant thread. Anytime you would like to debate the merits of your position I'll be glad to meet you toe to toe, but when you can't find a way to support your position without having to thump your chest bragging about how smart you are and how low the IQ of anyone who doesn't bow to the inescapable supremacy of your intellect I can't imagine how you could possibly hold a peer-to-peer conversation with anybody who has graduated 2nd grade.
