Thread: Vehicle Customization: Should it be for Master Artisans to perform or for anyone and everyone?

Hello All,
I am a Master Artisan on Bria, and I would not want to colorize vehicles for people, I would just like to make the Kits with 4 or 5 charges and sell them to the people who wish to paint their vehicles. This kit would be similar to selling armor or weapon repair tools, they have a charge of 5 and so should these paint kits.
Any possiblity of adding vehicle repair tools to the mix? These would not work as well as a garage, maybe repair max of 200 hitpoints per charge used.

Door #2, I think that it is fair that only masters can make them but not that they are the only ones that can use them.

kinda late in the thread, but here's my concept...
(I appologize if someone's already suggested this, it seems obvious to me).
Anyone can use a coloring kit. Non-Master Artisans may apply the full pallete to their vehicle, lasting 48-72 hours.
Master Artisans coloring a vehicle will allow the customization to last 7-14 days. Play within those numbers, or randomzie it between the numbers.
Vehicle color is neat, but don't make it a bother, else the market will plain and simple be dis-interested. Having to seek out a Master Artisan, of which FEW wear there tags, as most are proficient in Elite crafting professions... wuold be a major inconveinience for a simple, non-permanent cosmetic change. Not to mention the pallete sounds a bit limited.
Here's an interest developing suggestion.. make the customization kits Decrease, by a desireable margin, the decay rate of a vehicle. This may alter reasonable customization duration, but the lower end of the limits I mentioned would still make it desireable, and profitable for Master Artisans.
Vehicle Decay is in general too high RIGHT NOW. A swoop, without being attacked, is in very poor condition by the end of a single night of hunting. Speeders are nearly as bad. If I bought a new car, drove it for a day, and it needed to be repaired by a garage before the end of that day... I'd be sure to take that car back to the salesman.. not saying Vehicles should have real-world expected lifespan, but something more reasonable than a night before it's a smoldering pile of metal.
a 25-50% reduction in decay would be acceptable in my eyes by use of customization kits, range depending perhaps on the level of artisan the applicator has. (or perhaps 15% for a novice, 50% for a Master?). Master Artisan crafters are already in poor market demand, this would add a valuable service to their abilities. This is from the perspective of both a consumer, and a Master Artisan.

I say 2
I won't go to a MA to have my vehicle colored. I will just keep the basic look if number 1 wins.

TH,
How about you let us keep the cake and eat it too.
Do the following:
1) The vehicle custom paint is a Master Artisan schematic.
2) Anyone can apply the paint and choose whatever style they want
3) The paint fades over time (a long time).
4) The schematic can not be placed in a factory - it must be hand crafted.
This solves most of the problems being raised, yes?

Option #2
As a Master Droid Eng, it is a real pain to always color other peoples droids (not to mention R-series being bugged awfully). The current droid customization is terrible and there have been many a post on the DE boards asking for the system to be changed. This I feel would be a parallel sentiment if MA were the only ones able to paint other's droids. Opposite of Droid coloring is the overwhelming positive response given by people who can now color their own armor. So for these reasons although brief, it makes sense to go with option 2.
1) Let MAs sell customization tool kits to everyone.
2) Let DEs sell customization tool kits to everyone (however the color needs to last longer than the current 20 charges).
3) Keep current armor coloring options.

As a Master Artisan, I will say that I actually don't see a huge market for this particular thing. You are right in saying that some "enterprising" artisans may decide to make crates and crates of these kits and flood the market. But couldn't anyone do that with anything? Fortunately, there is a decay factor, and everything has a limited number of charges.
From the point of view of making money, I don't see this item as any big deal. People will want it for awhile, then they will get sick of having to change the color all the time, and just drop it altogether.
Personally, I think you should do one of two things:
A) Make it so that ONLY Master Artisans may apply the color changes, but make the change permenant. Don't worry, we will still get return customers because people will want to change their color as often as they change their outfits.
B) Make it usable by EVERYONE and have the color fade after 10 hours of constant use, so that people will need to come back to Artisans for more kits.
Anything beyond that is just getting too complex for such a simple thing like the color of a speeder. Keep it simple. We'll figure out how to make money with it.

Apologies for registering an opinion in a thread made for artisans. If there is a tool I can buy, I will use it like mad, and buy them over and over as they run out of charges. Much as I am continually buying new clothes just for fun, I will change the color of my vehicle constantly.
But if it's something I have to seek out a Master Artisan for, which will only last two days or two weeks or even a month, I have no intention of ever coloring any vehicle in my possession. If you "try" it this way, I will, without question, wait until you see the folly of that decision.

Oh, and one other suggestion on this line...
Put the schematic for this colorization tool in Domestic Arts 2. Make it usable by anyone. But then make the AMOUNT of colors to choose from INCREASE as a better artisan crafts the tool. So a Master Artisan could make the best tools with the most colors to choose from (experimentation points), but someone with Domestic Arts 2 could make one with a few basic colors and still have fun with it. I think variety helps market more than anything else.
