Thread: Artisan Poll: Harvester Certifications: Yes or No
Unfortunately that isn't always the case...it's not easy to sacrifice skill points as some might think...For example, if I sacrifice skill points to take up artisan, I will lose either my Medic skills or some of my defensive skills...this means I won't be able to run the missions I run...Missions + Selling Harvests are most of my Combat Characters income...sacrificing either will reduce my income which, again, leads to less money going to crafters (because I end up buying less)...
Not everyone can afford the 15 skill point cost buy in for Artisan and then afford to go up the survey tree...before Vehicles came along, I had to decide to give up my Scouting skills to get Medic so I could compete...That made for some long slow runs to various places...I had to sacrifice to get the defensive capabilities that medic gave me...Personally, and people like me, could not afford to give up enough skill pts to keep my income at the level I needed it to be at...

Conditional yes.
Only if you get certed for all harvesters at novice artisan.
You people seem to forget you need novice artisan to survey. Sure anyone can place them but they either need to get lucky, look for existing harvesters, get a waypoint from an artisan or get novice artisan themselves.
You guys are making it sound like every combat toon and their grandmother has 10 heavies plopped all over the galaxy and is sitting on 50 gabillion resources.
As is the case with all other exaggerations here on the forums this simply isn't true.
Mining is simple anybody can get a spade and dig rocks out of the ground, anybody can run equipment to mine, so why have a certificate to use the device?
However why not give an expert not only the ability to survey better, give them a bonus to harvesting, maybe at master artisan you get a +10 mining bonus. This would give make a BER10 medium effectively a BER11 unit. This would also be in line with the merchant "maintenance reduction" why should a merchant have cheaper maint costs and an Artisan who have survey skills does not get a bonus to mining?
I have sen arguments about combat professions "I need a cert for a laser rifle" how ever if a char equips that item without the certificate they can still use it but it is less effective.
Do not limit the use of harvesters to Artisans, I vote no.

But yet you want artisans to sacrifce skill points to be able to use an FWG5 or flame thrower or whatever combat skill ?
Something here is a little one-sided

LOL...thought we covered this...You are certed for Survey Devices and have Schematics...Commandos are certed for FTs...Pistoleers are certed for FWG5s...We both can use Harvestors...there is no one-sided...
In fact if you want to compare...Commandos have 13 weapons they can use...10 are consumable and run out of shots....1 has no specials or mods beyond Master Marksman...1 is a weaker clone of the FT but has higher penalties...and then there is just the FT...
Now...Artisans have how many survey devices they are certed for...How many crafting devices they are certed for...and finally, how many Total Items can you craft at Master Artisan? Personally, if you want to keep pushing this "You have this and we have that" route, I'm afraid that Artisans have more then most...You have certs that other's don't have...so why should a cert that everyone has be limited to just Artisans...the "Miner" aspect of Artisan is focused on Surveying, hence Survey Device Certs...

another profession with absolutly NADA invested in any type of crafter skill getting upset about his "profit" loss should this happen.
That other cat is talking bout' having your cake and eating it too. Cmd to kill, novice medic to heal yourself, all the resources you can mine!
Fact: my bro is a MBH. absolutly no crafter skill at all. Has 2 houses and 8 harvs. Drop a harv, turn it on, wait 30 seconds, retrieve resources, examine, Oh look!! A great Aluminum!! No survey needed. Good money made.
Again a big YES.

Garvin, I think we are gonna have to agree to disagree. We're not going to change each others thinking or viewpoint on this. ![]()
