Thread: Vehicle Customization: Should it be for Master Artisans to perform or for anyone and everyone?

Take it from an ex-master smuggler...you don't want the pain of being hounded with countless tells to customize someone's vehicle. It becomes a total pain to have to stop what you are doing, explain the process to some noob, haggle over price, etc, etc. It is much easier to just make the kits and sell them on the bazaar. That way, the customer gets familiar with the process and does not require another player to explain it to them in detail. I never wore my master smuggler tag because of this very thing. I hated having to stop hunting to meet someone, or get left behind because I was slicing a set of armor for someone.
Sorry to be off topic, but please make kits for this AND for smugglers. Smugglers need slicing kits. This interdependancy is born ofgood intentions, but trust me, it's nothing more than aggrivating after about a week of it. Make kits for these types of upgrade services please.

You mean there is actually discussion about this? Anyways, I'll take #2. I know I could find a MA, and I know he would do the paint change for me BUT I'm not going to waste his time nor mine for something so trivial.

Master Artisans are already more important to the game than most other "novice" professions anyway and it's one of the easiest professions to master. I liked the original direction this profession took where Elite crafters had to purchase components from Master Artisans to make their wares. This new direction where we seem to be trying to make MA be an extremely important profession to everyone just boggles my mind.
But, if this is an effort to create more business for MAs than I have this to say: I love to customize stuff, I don't like to stand there while someone else shows me examples of things I can have done. Image Designer is a good example of a system that is tiresome and a waste of time because it's only fun for the ID. I say go with #2 and I'm likely to buy these things and change my vehicles look once a week or so, make it so I have to seek out a MA and sit there while they look through changes and show me a few they might like and I doubt I'd bother with it even once.
I vote for #2

Talking as an MDE and MA, I know all about customization kits, virtually no one wants their droids customized, it only lasts for 20 calls, then they have to find a DE to do it again, I customize my own droids (which takes two charges for most of them) it takes a couple of minutes doing it yourself, but doing it for someone else is a major pain, they can't see the changes until you finalise it, so you have to try and describe what the color looks like, and if they don't like the color afterwards you have to do it again (and use another charge).
If droid tools could be changed to be used by anyone I could sell those as well.
I'd vote for the number of calls being increased, 50 or even 100 calls wouldn't cause us any problems and would make the kits more desirable.
The only way you can keep these tools as MA/DE only is if the colors never fade, otherwise no one will bother seeking out an MA/DE and we've seen what happened with the Droid customization tool.

I vote number 2.. as it stands i'm having a hard time finding anyone willing to do something i want custom. Everytime I find some one of a given profession and ask a question about something they make most of the time their pissy that i'm intterupting them. I'll buy tonnes of kits if i can do it my self.

Basically the service has to be worth the hassle, or people simply won't bother. If it only lasts 20 calls, and you have to seek out some specific class to do it, it's too much of a pain in the ass to bother.

#2, #2, #2, and #2 again
Dear lord, please don't make people send me more tells or camp outside my home like some mob hunting Frankenstein's Monster. Seriously, I'm already so swamped that having to personally color ever person's vehicle would be a nightmare. I simply wouldn't do it. I might even stop selling vehicles altogether just so people don't get the idea that I'd be available to be their personal mechanic afterwards.
And I agree with the DE's complaining about droid customizations being changed to #2. I'm betting if that isn't on their Top 5, it will be after the DE Love patch goes in. You can say that it can't be changed in the code, but we all know that everything can be recoded, it's just a matter of getting the resources dedicated to it. :-)

I'm very close to master artisan, and look foreward to crafting vehicles, but the paint jobs are more of a personal taste/mood thing for people. It would really suck for both me and Microsoft if I had to get a programmer to change my desktop picture and screensaver for me.

Number 2. It was a pain in the a$$ getting the vehicles when they came out. Now I can just see Joe Schmo who says he wants his speeder blue, hisswoop green and his "Car" red, then says no the swoop would look better in red and the "car" green, and make my speeder yellow instead of blue. In the meantime a dozen others are waiting for the idiot to make up his mind so they can get their vehicles painted.

I'm a MA, and I say let the players do it themselves. Only THEY truly know what they want, end explaining the colors to people does NOT sound like much fun AT ALL.
Give MAs the schematic for the tool, let anyone use it.

Although I agree there's a LOT of work that needs to be done to repair the damage done to artisans by the Holocron/Hologrind fiasco, this isn't it. And they don't seem to want it. Made by artisans, useable by anyone.
Make it so.

Door 1 has already been tested and it has failed. I'm a DE. Only DEs can paint droids. It doesn't work. I would much rather sell a kit and let the person who purchased the kit do the changes.
On a side note, can you post with normal html so that we can quote easier? ![]()

Thunderheart this may of been discussed already but why cant you do a little of both?
Why not add a painting mod to players that gives them a limited painting palette and give master artisian more color options.
Then anyone can use a color kit but only a master can trick out you ride.
Just like in real life....anyone can spraypaint a care but only a professionsal can do the tricked out metalic with hot flames and pin stripping.
Thunderheart what do you thinK?
