Thread: Guess what MAJOR ARMOR NERF IN PUBLISH 10 from e3
so like I said add a vulnerability to the armor that can't be layered...nerfing is not the answer. That 90% compo wouldn't mean sh!t if it had say a big fat energy hole in it that couldn't simply be layered and fixed...stun is not a big enough vulnerability
nerfing is the stupid man's way out of fixing it right
the resists and the buffs aren't the issue, the issue iscompo can be made to have no exploitable weakness. If we were discussing ubese we wouldn't be having this conversation right? and it's got nothing to do with the resists because Ubese gets up around 80% kinetictoo...but you don't see anyone crying about it because the rest of the resists suck. Think about that for a second and ask yourself, is it really the resists?...or the lack of a weakness? Ubese has plenty of weaknesses beyond kinetic, that's why noone complains about it having high kinetic...yet compo has no real weakness so rather than think it through the mindless masses just start crying nerf because they have no better solution
...you nerf compo down to some stupid level of resists and players won't play with caution...they just won't play at all because the game won't be fun anymore and your effort to "balance" the game will only leave you with empty dungeons and vacant lots where houses and factories used to be.
If people were content being weak and mindless, noone would ever venture past the chubas and rills and womp rats...ATTACKING BIG THINGS IS MORE FUN!!
SOE thinks their star wars theme by itself is gonna carry them through countless poorly planned and implemented patches and nerfs, they're going to face a grim reality
...we don't play for the realism folks, we play for the FUN...remember what that is?
I never said adding vulnerabilities to composite wasn't a reasonable solution. But how is that not a nerf?
Composite is overpowered because it protects so heavily on so many damage types. So basically it does need to either have it's resists lowered or add more vulnerabilities. Maybe a little of both. Really, high end armor is okay but there still needs to be a legitimate reason to wear the other armors over composite. Which is why the whole armor system should be revamped IMO
...you ask how is that not a nerf?
I started this thread up over a month ago explaining just that and how, if I had my way, I would rebalance armor and make them ALL useable.
This seems like the perfect place to plug the other conversation cause it's right on target with this discussion...

Well that reminds me of this post on the GCW boards: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=GCW&message.id=167509&page=1
While I don't think it is the perfect solution it is definately in the right direction. Composite doesn't exactly have to be equal to bone armor literally but they should both have their niches. Most importantly, advantages and disadvantages. TH said that composite would be toned down and it is because it has absolutely no disadvantage in the current system.
Umm...yeah sure LOL

I'm saying right here that we just nerf the whole armor system and rework it, because half of the armor is uselss and looks stupid either way. There's no way in hell I'm going to wear padded or bone armor to PVP, that's just out of the question..
- Scrap all the other armors besides composite, becauseI believe Composite should be the armor that is decent all around.
- Add in new armor that looks decent and scrap bone armor or keep it for newbies whatever.
I don't see why they'd want to nerf it because people have been looting exceptional and legendary armor that are 100%, so you might as well nerf those aswell. We need more variety if you want to keep the economy booming. How boring is it to see everyone wearing composite? Padded armor, who came up with that? I'd like to slap who did.
Sorry if I'm a bit biased, but I've had a bad day..
/rant off.

I could rant and rave about how your a terrible armorsmith. You would probably view that as an insult even though it is the simple brutal and honest truth but I won't. Instead I will simply say this If you don't have anything meaningful to contribute why don't you stop looking for a reason to antagonize me and go about your own business. One final thing don't quote me and then insert your own drivel. That is actually against the code of conduct on the forums Please read Jeassa's post if you have any questions on what conduct is and is not allowed.
Good Day to you and Good luck to you now with your new PA.

I don't have a personal hatred of you. I do have a problem with you berating people who make good arguments beligerently with personal attacks. As for the quality of my smithing, /shrug. I think I do well enough. I won't be as small as to say that you're a terrible smith - that would petty and hateful, and clearly you feel you're beyond that. oh wait.....
I do have meaningful things to contribute, but they have been said already by others perfectly well. I'd reiterate them, but then you'll probably talk down to me like you have everyone else.

90% compo is also not everywhere, it's the exception rather than the norm, and it decays faster because it absorbs more. 66-68% base compo is the avg out there right now pre-slice...right off the bat 50% of all slices will be encumbrance...and another 25% or so will be low base slices under 80%. Non-loot Composite is currently way over powered when combined w/buffs/food do to the irrelevance of HAM cost.
My opinion is that any future armor resist nerf needs to be followed by a NPC MOB nerf as well. If we can’t have 90%, neither should they. HAM of NPC mobs should be lowered as well.no 450k 95% resist HAM troopers floating around.
That said, I feel non-loot made composite should max out resists at about 50%. The armor rating should be done away with and slicers should be able to choose their slice, but no slice should be over 10-20%. Right now AS spend the time and resources creating an item that’s actual use is determined mostly by the end slice. This is wrong IMO.
Special Armor (RIS, NS etc..) made with rare loot should be able to hit higher resist %. It’s special and costly to make and should be valued as such.
The question I have is "how" these changes will be implemented.
Th options I see:
1. The Crafted armor cap is lowered from 80% to 70 or 60 or what ever number the dev's determine. This is fine, but it will take some time for the old UBER armor to filter through the system. This would be hard to implement in that many AS will have tons of pre-nerf schematics and armor made up so as to continue to "beat the system" at least for awhile.
2. As #1 plus, all existing armor is nerfed to new lvls determined by devs. This I feel is a mistake. If my loot made NS armor w/90% resist and low ham which cost me millions and millions to make is nerfed to have the same resists as a regular piece of resource made comp I will be generally pissed off, as will a great portion of the community.
3. Buffs will be addressed so that while 90% Comp is still around, it will have to be made with NS or RIS layers to make it wearable do to HAM constraints.
I am sure htere are other options, but those are the ones I see atm.

Since you are ignorant on my opinion and more than likely because you chose torun your mouth instead of think about what I wrote let me clarify my personal position. I didn't say that a revamp wasn't needed in some sort. As I clearly stated armorsmiths have wanted the other suits of armor improved so that we could sell them. With that said I would be infavor of a slight reduction in composite levels. I would be pleased if composite was capped at 65% across the board with an 80% to electric. I would be VERY pleased if all the other armors like padded were UPPED to a 60% general cap with 80% to its special protection. I would be able to sell that and you would see a greater variety of armors in the game instead of composite dominating. I would be even more pleased if I could make storm trooper armor that is equal to composite or Rebel armor that is equal to that of composite. I would absolutely love to see these kind of changes and yes I am biased because you see I AM AN ARMORSMITH. I would love to see these changes because variety in this game would be a good thing. However that wasn't what was being talked about.
That is my understanding of what Thunderheart said at e3 and I will note that neither he nor anyone else at sony has decided to comment on this. After looking at that laughable trailor for the space expansion in which I saw only mabari armor, and I saw characters in newbie clothing running through the corvette I think their silence is telling, but that is my opinion only.

Ok, glad to see we agree that we need varieties of armor being used to keep the game and the AS profession healthy.
In a more polite way than my earlier note, I will say that your expectations that the TH, the Producers, or the Devs have - as they finish the design and coding for Publish #9 - any level of detail for Publish #10 or beyond is a bit unrealistic. This is based on my observations of what they seem to be able to answer at different points as we approach a new Publish. Go look at the forum post that followed the posting of the Jedi Archives, Volume II. This is for the *next* release and the had to defer a lot of questions with "we are still thinking about that".
I think the Devs have goals and TH was expressing a goal and used an example to illustrate his thought. Nothing more. I've play AC, AC2, AO, DAoC, and E&B so I feel confident in stating that SOE SWG does a pretty good job of communicating when they have something to say. The Correspondent Program and Test Server access only furthers our ability to get information.
