Thread: Guess what MAJOR ARMOR NERF IN PUBLISH 10 from e3
I don't need xp, my template is finished. I hunt for avian/herbivore. If I can't do that solo, no reason for me to play
My whole point is you should be able to solo 70% of the game, but the other30% should be group. Nobody should be able to take down a rancor or krayt dragon by themselves period (let alone 5-6 of them). As for avian/herbivore there lots of animals you can solo to get those. But I know, you want to hunt the big stuff so you can get 100 units of avian/herbivore per kill instead of the easier animals that only give out 20 units or so.... Personaly I enjoy hunting in groups, but there impossible to find because everyone is either hunting solo or with a friend or two and dont want to invite you. If you make the top level creatures harder then they will have to invite you in order to kill them.
Personaly I think they could leave composite alone, but reduce the effectiveness of secondary stat buffs to force aromrsmiths to reduce encumbrance instead of maxing out stats. 2500 buff's for secondary stats is way to high, should be like a 1000 max. With average being around 800 or so.. This would alsoforce people into using stratgy instead of spamming there most powerful attack.
Seems to me some of these Dev's play the game, and nerf it to favor whatever profession there using.... hmmmmm
I agree about secondary buffs. Anything over 1500 for the secondaries renders the cost of the special attack a moot point.
I think grouping for rancors, krayts, kimo's, gorax's etc is a given.
But not for everything on adventure planets, that's just craziness.
Each armor type was supposed to have both strengths and weaknesses. The problem now is that Composite is strong in everything. I've pasted some quotes from the Armor Guide which is located under Advanced Guides on the main SWG website. You can see from this that they meant to make the armor more diverse so that each kind was desirable in it's own way.
Kinetic:
Ubese armor is the primary defense against Kinetic damage.
Energy:
Both Tantel and Bone armor provide special protection against energy damage.
Blast:
Padded armor has special protection against this.
Cold:
Cold is a damage type that is used most commonly used in SG82 rifles and cryoban grenades. In practice, it is rare to encounter this.
Heat:
Mabari armorweave's special protection is to heat.
Acid:
?
Electrical:
Composite armor's special resistance is electricity.
Stun:
Stun damage is the bane of armor, player and creature alike. Most armor is vulnerable to this Damage Type.

I respect group play, but I do NOT believe that should be the only option.
You will still be able to solo, group play won't be the only option. However if you want to solo you will have to solo lower level mobs. It will take longer to harvest your resources, but there has to be some advantages to grouping. The game needs to have mobs that are only huntable in a group. Red cons should mean "oh no, if i try to solo him I will die"not "Bah, I have buffs and my composite on, I can take him".
Edited for spelling error.

If they lower weapon stats, TRUST ME, EVERY hardcore PVPer will find the template that the all mighty devs didnt think about, and we will be back at where we started. where does it end.
It doesn't. It's the problem with positioning PvP as the elder game for every player. Since launch, the hardcore PvP'ers have done nothing but bring about nerf after nerf. Problem is, when whatever they're complaining about is finally nerfed, the find something new to complain about, and everyhone else is forced to live in the wake of their nonstop nerf whining.
There are too many fragile virtual egos out there. I used to PvP a lot, the difference was that I chose professions I enjoyed, and usually laughed at myself for getting killed in PvP.
Nerfing armor won't do anything to affect PvP balance. Adding a vuneralbility or two to composite won't do anything. If there's another armor type that protects against it, you'll see everyone macro equipping multiple suits in PvP to match the weapon they're up against. If there's no armor to protect against a certain vunerability, you're back where we started with stun weapons.
Nerfs in SWG have never been good. The have consistantly crippled the PvE game, and the PvP players find something else to imbalance the game within a week.
As for PvE, if you think that doc buffs and 90% comp make the game too easy, I have a suggestion for you - don't use them. If it's more exciting for you personally to run around like we used to in the early days (when trying to walk into Fort Tusken was instant death) then I encourage you to play unbuffed and unarmored. There's no need to nerf a playstyle that many of us enjoy when you currently have the ability to play the game the way you want to.
You dont want to group? Beating the entire planet of yavin4 up is fun? No need? I think the combat rebalance is going to be horrible on you my friend.
If the outcome is in doubt then the game will be more interesting.

Not only do I AGREE with a Composite nerf (why go through the trouble for RIS armor when Composite is much better), but I also have another suggestion.
GET RID OF SUBSTAT BUFFING!!! why you may ask?
If you are unable to buff substats:
- HAM cost on armor matters again... HAM cost on weapons matters again... You have to pick and choose your special shots instead of just picking which one to spam constantly... etc...
I think not being able to buff substats would have taken care of the armor issue without them having to resort to nerfing armor... we would have to nerf it ourselves just for people to be able to wear it. And don't give me that "just use food to get it on" crap. If you do that, your subs will be 1 and you will kill yourself with special shot usage during combat.
And if you still wanted to wear that godlike helmet or chest, fine... but the rest of your armor will have to suck for you to get it on...
Just my idea of how they screwed it up and could have easily avoided this issue in the first place.
Cant agree more. Substat buffs make everything way too easy. Thats the MAIN reason why people live forever. Because they can wear the 90% base armor, then regen the small health loss in no time at all.
Nerfing or eliminating substat buffs would force people to make wise choices on a balance or armor/weapons/specials. Then the people who are smart will dominate the battle field unlike the typical pvper who spams the same attacks with thier sunt weapons.

"All I can say is if having to group will make you quit, best of luck to you elsewhere. I recomend to you: "Deer Hunter"."--neinnunb
-And May I suggest a game for you as well Everquest.
2.
"But here is a few things to have in mind: Right now its hard to find anyone to group with simply because everything is soloable. "
-Really I would like to see you solo one of those superdroids without an exploit. The simple fact of the matter is while I agree with you there should be places that require a group you should NEVER be forced to group with anyone. You force me to group start calling this game Everquest Galaxies. Call it that because it isn't star wars anymore. Also just because you want to group with people doesn't mean the rest of us must be forced to do this. THere is a place for you already. That place is the corvette, the geonosian caves andthere will alsobe the deathwatch dungeon.
3.
"However, when the CB comes in, trust me, you'll find allot of people who are willing to group because it will be the fastest gain in XP. Not everything will be required to group of coarse, you could hunt on lesser dangerous planets like Tatooine, Naboo, etc. It may not besexy, buta hell of allot more realistic than soloing a Rancor. The adventure planets will be impossible to solo."-neinnunb
-And why is this, because you want to force us all to group? Do us a favor please, stop trying to force your wet dream down our throats. There is already a place for you. There is a place for you in galaxies in those dungeons and there is a place for you in other games like Everquest. Why don't you go to those games instead. The bottom line is this individuals were able to make a difference in the star wars movies. That is star wars. You see Kyle Katarn assaulting entire bases in the Jedi Knight series, you see aliens like thrawn almost reclaiming the galaxy not through superior might but through individual superior intellect. The point is this is a star wars based game. Individuals must be able to be heroic individually. There is a group based game where an individual is insignificant already. That game is called Asherons's Call 2. Asheron's Call 2 decided to force nerf after revamp after nerf and tried to force its player base into groups.. well let me tell you how well that worked. They had to condense servers and server populations is steadily decreasing. Why is it decreasing? Let me answer that as well. Its decreasing because there is already a game that caters to the individual as insignificant attitude that you want to force upon us. That game is Everquest and unlike AC2, Everquest has alot more content.
So in the case of Asheron's Call 2 where they forced people into groups, the population just crashed and they still don't get it. They create insanely stupid creatures where the emphasis is on devaluing the impact a single person can make in favor of imposed grouping and they are still losing subscriptions. How do I know this? I keep track on three people who play in Thistledown (to which morningthaw and one other server was merged into) and they are at the end of their rope. You know you might want to try Asheron's Call 2, you might just gain a bit of perspective.

"I remember in Beta when I wanted to go to Endor, people kept telling me: "dont ever go to Endor alone, go with a group". That struck fear into my character. I went anyways because I was excited about going and exploring the planet. Sure enough, I took a few steps away from the Science outpost and I was dead. "--neinnunb
- And this was fun for you? Wow you know I remember just after release when we had nothing but an ee3 available to us with max damage 165 and that FRUSTRATED THE HELL OUT OF ME. I just don't understand why it is you want to feel impotent. Why you who is decrying the solodefeat ofa rancor as unrealistic now wants to have to run from ewoks wielding spears while you fire a laser carbine at them. It tells me you don't know really what you want as far as the "realistic" aspect is concerned. Since its clear you don't want realism all we are left with is that you wantto force us all to look for you as a group member.
5.
"Lets not forget what theMM means in MMORPG. its "Massive Multiplayer"."-- neinnunb
-Ahh yes MM does indeed stand for Massively Multiplayer. However that doesn't mean the approach needs to be a clone of everquest. It doesn't mean this at all. Since its also called Star Wars Galaxies I expect and demand that it stay true to the star wars universe. Turning this into a forced grouping multiplayer game isn't true to star wars. That really is the bottom line. Now again there are many forced grouping games you should take a look at first instead of forcing your wet dream mmorpg down the rest of our throats.

"The game was a heck of allot better back then simply because it was impossible to solo in adventure planets. I would be leaving this game if it was not for the CB."--neinnunb
While it might have been better for you it sure as hell wasn't better for all of us. Don't make the assumption you know what I want or what people like myself want. Let me assure you you don't have the first damn clue. What your describing is a game I will not pay to play.
