Thread: The thing people have been waiting for: What armors are certified for which professions.
For instance TKM/rifleman.
If I start combat as a TKM and decide to switch to rifleman, I'll have to put armor on as well apparently
Not sure what actually true about how defense and armor will work but
1. It be stupid if I ran around with a rifle in my hanf and had TK defenses, which I'll assume wont happen because that would appear to be very unbalanced
2. It also be very retarded that I'll have zero defense at all if I choose to switch mid pvp. Makes my template virtually worthless because I'll be forced not to switch during battle
They way it is now I loose about half my defense if I switch , I think that is rather fair.

Hmm. The CU seems to be pretty popular these days. Wonder why?
Gee thanks for limiting me to the a gayest armor in the game. Padded. Well its the helmet that makes it gay. Used to like ubese and tantel but I guess I cant use it. And then there are species constrains that I must deal with now.
I take my hats off to the devs for pidgeon holing the game. Hope they give us a species reroll as well as one for professions. I can't see being a twi'lek combatant after this. Actually after two days on TC5 I can't see myself playing this game at all. Even if I don't cancel its going to be a half baked EQ/WoW clone with SWG skins.Message Edited by La-grange on 04-01-2005 04:32 PM
Marauder has been there for a while actually. Have a set of it. Wear it from time to time for the coolness factor lol. No im just redoing my old carbineer/tkm template and avoiding the issue.

Bwwwaaa!
I hope you quit rather than be "forced" to have fun.
That's not what I meant. By forced I meant there being no other option, sticking the crafting terminal deep in the dungeon is "forcing" a crafter to be escorted in there if anyone wants that item. I'm not saying getting there isn't fun, but to now say, "Do it without armor" in an AOE infested area, is guaranteed death.Dying in any game should not be a guaranteed part of the experience, a possibility, in some cases a very high possibility, but not an absolute. Death is not fun, despite what SOE's play book says.

All I'm saying is... no one is "forced" to go to the DWB... Such armors will be *ultra* rare in this case and that's fine with me. Raise your hand if you can tell me how many sets of Mandolorian armor are seen in the original trilogy? Anyone? Anyone? One. Fett's.
Just remember that the Combat UpNerf affects the NPCs, too. It says so in the NPC/AI document. So, sure... naked smiths with a band of UpNerfed fighers in the *current* DWB might be 100% lethal. But, since no one can tell me what fighting with armor on is like (since no ne has any elite combat professions yet), then let's wait and see before we seek grief counseling, mmmkay?

We've know, for a long time, that the devs wanted to get everyone off the "composite" system. Diversification was guaranteed. Now, you are surprised that the new system favors diversification? Believe me, diversification = profit.
I am fully in agreement on that. personaly I making the other types of armor. heck most of them look looking ( though what were they thinking when they thought up Mabari weave). If anything it will be a vast improvement over current system.
heck, when I was in EQ, my char couldn't wear certain armor. (Iksar) due to chaffing, AND he had to watch his weight just to get the defence bonus.
yes I know, that's in a different game but just pointing out it could be stricter. Comp is suppose to be heavy armor anyways, so wrestling or doing brawler type attacks would be cumbersome, and in reality comp is best suited for the mercenery/ soldier type. I still ponder why padded shouldn't get the kin resist and chitin get the elect/energy. course that would be going through logic.
I also think we all got a rude awakening when that global vendor search thingy from bazaar went live. ( course this is all for a different thread).

Lets assume you are a Master TKA-Commando:

ZionHalcyon is correct, if you DO NOT have the first series of Mitigating numbers in the Novice box, you can not equip that style ofarmor. If you untrain the novice box that grants you the basic mitigators it will strip that armor off you.
Now the only remaining question is...
If I have 2 combat professions that grant certs for 2 different types of armor....lets say I'm a COmmando/TKA... if I wear the armor granted to me as a Commando, do I still have full access to all TKA abilities, modifiers, and specials?
Master Commando gives you max certification for Advanced Assault armor.
Master TKA gives you their defensive built in mitigators.
If you put on your Assault Armor it automatically cancels out the TKAbuilt in mitigators.
If you take off your Assault armor your TKA mitigators again go active.
If you are wearing armor you can still use TKA specials however the armor is where your protection is coming from not the TKA mitigators. Similarly you can have your armor off and pull out the Rocket launcher and the TKA mitigators are active.
The point being you can have one or the other, they justdont stack. It is just like youare not allowedto put on 2 chest pieces.

On Stormtroopers: The vast majority of Stormtroopers use Carbines, because Carbines are perfect weapons for the job they do. Any troopers you see carrying non-standard weapons will also have Carbine training, the specific example shown was the trooper with a T-21. The T-21 is a Squad Support weapon, the trooper wielding it would take training in that weapon in addition to standard Stormtrooper training, ie, Carbines.
My point was that there never has been any problem for any profession to wear ST armor and equip an E11 or T21 and do some ST roleplay.
Whole PA's were founded around this game system, and communities interact with them on a daily basis. Now that the devs feel they must enforce certifications they way they are going to, a lot of on occasion Stormtroopers ( And my PA has loads of those) are beeing forced to take up skills they do not want/like if they want to be able just to equip a certain type of armor. This might not be a problem for PvP/PvE combat gameplay, but there are loads of people that have entirely different PvP/PvE skills when they are "OOC". And they might not be wanting to change that, so they have to give up "ST-ing" ,so the victimsare most likely going to be the ST roleplayer PA's.
1. Novice armor - I think at some is needed, at least for marksman/brawler. I think armor is something you should be able to start with from the beginning. I'm neutral as to whether crafters/entertainers should be allowed to wear it, there are pros and cons. But I think one suit of armor (bone, probably), should be certified at novice marksman and brawler
2. RIS/Mando armor - Are those the same as the current Mando-enabled professions? I'm not sure. If so, great; if not, everyone who can wear Mando now really needs to be able to post-CU. And I think RIS armor should be usable by anyone. It's frustrating to have a super-rare item that can only be worn by a few people, especially when it used to be wearable by everyone (an even more so when there isn't an equivalent recon suit). They're rare enough that giving them to everyone wouldn't be unbalancing.
3. The glut of useless composite - I don't know much in regards to the crafters complaining about resources, and I think that's probably a "wait and see" issue. Composite will still be useful, and doubtlessly those resources will all be used eventually, even if it takes a while. What I'm concerned about is the current composite. Everyone who has a suit right now will have to sell/dump it. Armorsmiths may like this, but I don't think it's fair that a brand-new suit of armor should become worthless. I think there should be a one-shot option per piece of currently existing armor to convert it to equivalent stats in another form. The low-level armors could only be converted to the low-levels of the other two types, and same goes for the high levels. Mando/BH/RIS etc. couldn't be converted to/from, of course.
Give it a chance and you'll see the improvements! There will actually be DIVERSITY not compo-clone wars and the armors will make sense! No more TKAs with super heavy armor hitting to the speed of light...
I just hope that as the time passes they add in more armor sets for each class so it improves the freedom
On another note about the storm trooper suits - what about you make a player-event perk / RP perk that is in fact a whole Storm Trooper Suit (with no resistances whatsoever, just like clothings) and a fake E-11 (no dmg whatsoever), so anyone can equip it just for the RP prupose and it will not mess up the armor certification system because noone will want to wear it in battle (0 resistances
