Thread: General opinion of armorsmiths regarding the crafting of Wookie armor

Make it a armorsmith ability not wookiee only.... I don't want to have waited this long for armor to only have to spend even more time trying to gather the retarded amount of credits that wookiee armorsmiths will charge.

I am not an Armorsmith, but as a Wookiee, it would really be a benefit to myself and all my fellow Wookiees if ANY armorsmith was able to craft Wookiee armor. This is because there will be widespread demand for this armor and on my server (Starsider), there aren't many Wookiee armorsmiths.


I've always said that one advantage of giving us Wookiees armor instead of innate protection is that it will create a species-profession interdependence and interdependence is what this game is all about.

I think it would be cool to have just the wookie armorsmiths make it.


Would make the armor even more rare and valuable in game.

As a 12 point nonholo wookiee armorsmith (master since October) and member of an all wookiee guild I'm am both excited and terrified by the release of wookiee armor.I already recieve demands. here is my viewpoint.


Wookiee only craftable? :


Pros:


- Roleplay friendly (I'm a RPer)


- Tribal aspect of crafting and trading for it (wookiee prefer trade over credits)


- AS is easy to grind


Cons:


- Too much demand for me to cope with.


I can live with that....make it wookiee only


Side notes : bonus possibilities for wookiee AS : getting a schematic with an optional layer to put in the advanced segment (that will probably be in next armor type since this one is ceremonial stuff)

If a wookiee cant find a wookiee weaponsmith to make a bowcaster he can go to a non-wook and buy several OTHER KINDS OF RIFLES. (lol and most of em will be better guns 'cause bowcasters SUCK)

and yeah I'm getting a little sick of having to listen to the RP'ers every time anything gets done in this game that doesnt meet their narrow-minded approval.


make it wookiee-only and I'll grind armor-smith and get crazy rich off of million-credit suits of armor while I'm perfecting my own


I have the resources.


but I sure as hell dont wanna have to do it


and what about all the other wookiees who dont have the time/resources?


this is a crap idea put forth by jealous non-wookiees and avaricious wookiee AS's and it's time for it to die.

Let the wookiee's be able to craft it.


Weaponsmiths cant make bowcasters why should us wook's have to pay an armor smith to make something no other race can have...


why some say it well be cheaper if all armor smiths make it i have to say no.


Cause wook armor well be HOT all wooks well want it and again armor smiths making mill's


geez look at the trade forums when we though we were getting the quest armor that stuff was selling for MILL'S and its junk...


if you make it so armorsmiths are going to be able to make it then you should take the bowcaster away from us too then huh? so all weaponsmiths well be able to make it...

so we get better ones and every joe smo has one.

Well, lets look at it this way.


I think all armor should be craftable by non-wookiees only and only wookiees can craft wookiee armor. I mean, come on, wookiees can't wear all the other armors, so what would they know about crafting it?


Sounds fair in my narrow minded RPing view.

Pardon this non-armorsmith wookiee here (I'm actually considering joining your profession soon). But I'd like to butt into this conversation as the decision made here could effect me in more ways than one in the very near future.


#1) Bowcaster Vs Wookiee Armor - First and foremost understand that the bowcaster isn't just ANY rifle. It's a wookiees rifle. The certification for the rifle is given to all wookiees apon character creation, and wookiees also recieve a bonus so that the HAM costs of the bowcaster when fired by a wookiee are significantly less than a bowcaster fired by a non-wookiee. However the penalty for this is that the bowcaster is a fairly low-end rifle. It's basically equivilent to a mid range laser rifle. Also of noteis that the bowcaster can be used by non-wookiees. On the otherside of the globe we have the newly introduced wookiee armor. Other than the fact that the encumberance is extremely high to negate the wookiees added HAM it has no other properties that would be considered beneficial or detremental to the wookiee race. It's just a level of protection from attack. This armor; unlike the bowcaster; can only be worn by wookiees.


#2) Rarity - I'm unsure why this issue has even come into play. This armor is not going to be rare, every wookiee on every planet, on every server is going to get it for themselves because it's an absolute MUST HAVE ITEM. If they can't find an armorsmith to make the armor for them many will put their hologrinding on hold to pick up the armorsmith profession and make themselves some. The only possible way to make an armor rare is to implement it like the RIS armor quest which requires rare loot drops on varying planets. It's pretty obvious that the intention here isn't to make the armor rare but togive wookiees the ability to compete with the rest of the armor wearing public.


Many others have summed up my feelings on the issue but I'll reiterate:

Making wookiee armor only craftable by wookiees will prevent the armor from being useful to our race.Wookiees are limited in numbers becuase of their previous in abilities to compete in the galaxy. Finding a good armorsmith is difficult enough, but to compound the difficulty of tracking down a good armorsmith by making it race specific is going to hurt more than it helps. This implementation will cause wookiee armor to be low quality, hard to aquire, and expensive.This is not exactly a decent way to"level" the playing field as far as wookieesare concerned.Ifthe armor isinaccessable to the wookiees or "rare"you might as well just not add it to the game at all.


The entire purpose of adding the wookiee armor to the game was to balance the species. Making the new wookiee armor only craftable by wookiees works against that goal. If wookiee armorsmiths truely want something out of this perhaps they should recieve some special abilities such as access to a larger color palette, or some type of "bonus" for creating that specific armor. But by asking for this to be only craftable by wookiees your being extremely counterproductive. Wookiees need protection, they don't need to spend days or months trying to track down a wookiee armorsmith who can make a decent set of armor after 8 months of neglect.


And please stop making the comparison between "Bowcasters" and weaponsmiths, and "wookiee armor" and armorsmiths. It doesn't hold water. The closest viable comparison in the game is between Weaponsmiths and Tailors. Are the wookiee clothing lines limited to only wookiee tailors? No. Then why should the armor lines be limited that way? The wookiee armor doesn't offer any other species benefits other than the standard protection that other races have had since launch. The only thing special about the armor is it's increased encumberance which isn't exactly a "benefit".


The majority of wookiees even the armorsmith wookiees would prefer if this armor was craftable by anyone. Those who think that making the armor "wookiee only craftable", are making assumptions about what we would like or what they would be cool. It's a false assumption. There are only a small handful of wookiee's who would enjoy this and IMHO they are some greedy little buggers who realize that as soon as the armor comes out every wookiee every where is going to want it and they'll pay nearly any price to have it.


All armorsmithsshould have the oppertunity to make money off this addition to the game. All wookiees should have the ability to purchase the armor the day it goes live. Anything less is quite honestly makes a mockary out of what the wookiees have worked so hard to get.

This is a moot point now..


The armor is craftable by all races of armorsmiths... Check the Test Center... And I am sure Jaato is not a wookiee armorsmith...


Besides if it was wookiee craftable from the start it would be a total pile ofsteaming bantha poodoo... The Bowcaster is one of the worst weapons... No better then a DTL20a rifle... so its mostly useless past a few weeks of being alive as a character.. once you start into adv. professions the weapons that they introduce you too are better by far than the wookiee bow caster...


Wookiee armorsmiths would be charging Wookiees an arm and a leg to get this armor because it is only craftable by a wookiee armorsmith... so you could look to spend at least 1 million a suit...


But As a Wookiee armorsmith I would hope you all would consider picking up your armor from a fellow wookiee who understands your racial minums and Maximums... but its not a statement advocating for wookiee only.. by far go to your galaxies best armorsmith and get the stuff... But consider a wookiee smith before a non wookiee smith... Considering they also know your pain as a wookiee...
