Armorsmith Archive
Thread: What do people think of this change which went to Test today:
Ok I have just read almost all of this thread so far, and Here is what I think...
Yes, this is a nerf to storage... They can't possibly be thinking about armorsmiths when they implement this... or if they are thinking about us, then they are trying to shut us out and just put it through anyways... The fact is, people use vendors to sell full bags of items and thus get an extremely large amount of storage and put "stress" on the database.
There is probly nothing we can do about it, all the bitchin and moanin is likely Not going to prevent this from going live...
As to the Custom Order problem that this nerf creates I have thought of a somewhat plausible solution... But still not perfect. So here is my thinking...
Random people don't buy custom orders for items because they don't want to spend a lot of money on a bag that they don't know what is in it. This really just boils down to the fact that people don't like to overspend on items...
What I propose we do if this does go live is overcharge on custom orders. And then reimburse our clients for the difference after the order has been purchased... Now this would require a bank tip to be involved, and the clients would have to be aware that they must pay this (sort of a shipping and handling charge)
So what would happen is this, a set of custom composite armor which would sell for 350k all together could be sold as individual pieces at 75001 credts each for bobs order, making the total 675,009 credits... once the item has been purchased, we would then refund bob 309,523 credits (309,523 x 1.05 = 324,999) the amount that bob overpaid on the set of armor... orders can then be seperated using the ones digit, ie Bob's order ends in 1, Joes order ends in 2, this way when customers go to sort by price there order will be grouped all in one chunk...
However, as good as I feel this idea is, I am well aware of two Major problems with it... 1 is that some players may not have the kind of money necessary to overspend on these items and wait for there tax receipt to come in the mail... and 2. There is likely some shady merchants out there who would stiff customers and Not refund that money back to them.
I feel the second problem i mentioned to be fairly self defeating however... Because if everyone practices this idea, anyone who doesn't will quickly get labelled and thus lose business... Nevertheless this would still be a problem...
Well those are my thoughts for now on this issue... what you guys think bout that...
This will destroy my buisness. I use sacks to sell suits of armor to people.
THey need to find a better way to solve the using vendors as storage bug.
PLEASE, tell them that armorsmiths use sacks to sell bundled suits of armor
The fact that so manycrafters have indicated their opinions (one way or the other) on this change might indicate that they DO believe it's related to crafting. Many vendors sell items in backpacks as custom orders. Though, youstate a very good point that making lightsabers non-sliceable would make more sense.I suppose they're also doing this to curb the vendor storage "problem".

IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CRAFTING!!!!!!! I heard it involved people slicing lightsabers by buying them in packs off vendors and then selling them back in back packs.
It would have made more sense to make lightsabers non-slicable.

OK, here's an idea. You can't put anything in backpacks, but you can still use them to identify which containers belong to which people.
So, lets say you have 3 custom orders of compositeorder 1with 80kinetic,order 2with 33stun, and order 3 with 75energy. Put the orders in their seperate containers and mark their price. For example 400k, 450k, 350k. Now take three backpacks:
Name the first one "order 1: 80kinetic composite" and price it at the same price as the corresponding container (this way the customer knows which container is his)
Name the second one "order 2: 33stun composite" and price it at 450k
Repeat for each custom order. If you have two orders of hte same price, you'll have to have a 10credit difference or something of that sort. Now just add a backpack that is priced at 9999999 (or watever) and have it marked "READ THIS TO FIND YOUR ORDER". Have the backpack's info describe this system.
Shabam?
By "container" do you mean an unlocked container? Hmm..I wonder if you can still sell those with items in them..

This sounds like a bad "fix".
If it is indeed being done because of some lightsaber exploiting, well...; fix the problem, not a sympton.
the stupid thing is..... this is going to hurt business and hamper business of many people.
the funny thing is..... it doesn't surprise me that they came up with another stupid f^@&!^^g lame brain idea like this.
