Thread: multi-component RIS drops are a bug

ok ovoc... I'll try to be as relaxed as possible when I say this...
I am in-fact... a causal gamer....and have been so for a year
I go to school(just finished a degree in aerospace engineering) and go out and have a life... I volunteer in my community in a youth outreach center and in-time, hope to become a teacher at the high-school or university level... as disturbing as that sounds I'm sure...
while I've been chilling.. hoping for this games horrible lack of balance in PvE and PvP gets fixed... I've been keeping myself busy with a few hours at night or in the morning looking for RIS drops...
these drops are rare..... insanely rare in the case of the GDK...
but I re-arranged my character so that I could kill a GDK without help(so I could play when I want and not worry about others), which infact took a lot of time...
now for the time I play... I've decided RIS armor is what I want to try to work on.... I'll do my best to get a few pieces and I'll be justified in my work.. because even hardcore gamers find it hard to get this stuff.....
now I might've been very harsh on others and those wanting this stuff.... asking for increased drops... praying for an easier way to do it... and I accept that my slow, painful way of doing it might change...
but please for a second look at it through someone who has lost a LOT of time doing this.... someone posted that they got EIGHT drops from one GDK.... now sure .. everyone is like... weeeeeee that's great.... but for all my efforts.. I got a big.. two drops....... this might be hard to understand.. but do you have any idea how dis-heartening that is....
Literally to me.. it's the equivalent to giving away a jedi slot in this game..... giving away something I've worked VERY hard to get.... with no justification... no comment... just a simple "bug".. and I'm just suppose to be "oh well... time to move on"... well I am mad... VERY MAD... and I don't much care for this communities happiness in this matter.... it infact makes me sick.. because really... it means that my work was for nothing... and while this is a game... like all games... progress brings some satisfaction in my work.... and now my work means literally nothing.... wasted time.... time that I can't get back... wont be compensated.. can't be gotten back.. and for what.... a "bug"... I mean.. for the love of god.. this shouldn't even be a discussion.... TH has already posted that loot drops are not changing... a HUGE driving factor for me to get this loot.... and it's been completely undermined... maybe I should've posted THESE commments to begin with... but after getting home and checking the boards and finding THIS... what would you have me do... twiddle my thumbs and brush it off... well maybe someone without a heart or feeling can do that... but mercy man...
I looked for RIS to avoid the jedi hell and the combat garbage(ie, PvP problems AND PvE problems... ever try high level PvE with just master fencer... you learn quick you don't have what it takes.... and this is the thanks for my patience.... I mean I'm trying man... I'm seriously trying to make the best out of this game... EVEN for someone who doesn't play much and RIS is really what keeps me interested... and this is what I get..... well wohooo armorsmiths who get a kick out of cheap RIS armor.... guess this is one lone player that got left in the dust because of a "bug")

You shouldn't generalize Ryche, I am and was a 12 pt smith and I was against that fix.

I know, sorry bout that. You are one of the rare smiths that aren't just looking out for themselves and looking out for the whole armorsmith community.

If a light saber in order to be complete required 9 pearls per saber I would of course support a multi drop from Krayts. Krayts drop pearls one in 4-5 kills and they spawn statically in a 500-800 meter radius.
Refering again and again to this as a "bug" is in my opinion not the answer. I think this "bug" has brought into question the whole issue that I think a vast majority of AS's would agree is a serious problem. RIS armor is way to difficult to complete. Now my character does not have 92 combat points spent because of the need to maintain merchant ( an adjustment which we know looms in the distance) as well as Tailor. Are we suggesting that a quest, designed for AS's should in fact not allow a working merchant AS to be able to complete without an Alt or $117mm in cash?
Is that the thought here?

I have NEVER taken any stand on an issue that I felt this strongly about. I respect peoples opinions, particularly when they reflect a fair, honest difference of opinion versus a selfish point of view.
I hope we continue to have some input into this with the Dev's and see a win-win so that the majority of AS's out there can enjoy the RIS addition as much as some have already.

So who's selfish? The people that want to maintain the rarity or those that want it dropped so the can have it themselves? One could argue either.

Yup. I spoke out against the crafting changes in publish 7, and was the one that brought the Force sensitive crafting bonuses to light when they appeared on test. I've posted God only knows how much information about RIS and hunting/killing GDK's.
What have you done?

If this isa bug, and will be fixed, will RIS components go back to serialless? This is of concern to me and probably a few others, because I personally now have about 100 feathers/bones/gurk hides that are sets of 1. This makes them just about totally worthless, especially the feathers. I asked Customer Service about it, and their suggestion was to go and whine on the forums, as if posting things on the forums ever actually makes a difference.

Let me just start out by saying that this is just my opinion and i'm not trying to flame anyone else for theirs, although i'm sure some of u will take this as a personal attack and flame me anyway. I see almost everyone here saying keep the drops like they are now and let everyone have R.I.S. So what that really means to me is lets make R.I.S., an EPIC QUEST ARMOR, the new FOTM instead of comp. Then everyone can complain about how everyone is walkin around wearing it all the time instead of other armor. Usually i don't agree too much with the older masters about things in the AS profession, but i have to agree with caswell and the others that disagree with the multi-loot drops. R.I.S. is an epic quest armor. That alone should tell u that it is not meant to be an item that everyone has. Now lets break the phrase, epic quest, down to perhaps put a little more meaning behind the words. Lets start with quest; a quest in itself is supposed to be an undertaking that takes both time and effort to achieve a specific goal, laymen's terms, it's a its gonna be hard and take a long time. Next word epic; epic means to me that itsundertaking that is going to belarge-scale and will require alot of determination and will be a challenge, laymen's terms, its really tough to do and its gonna take a really long time. So we put the 2 words together and we get, its anundertaking of large-scale proportions that is going to take a large investment of time, effort, patience, anddetermination to reach a goal, laymen's terms, its not gonna be easy. R.I.S. was never meant to be a readily available armor and i believe that it should stay that way. It should only be available to those that invested a large portion of time and effort, as it is epic quest item.

My letter to the devs:
Dear Devs,
I am very upset about the multiple loot drops for RIS components. I spent nearly 95million to make my suit and complete the quest. My uber leetness is now under attack because everyone is going to have this armor now and i think I should be one of the only ones wearing it.
Hears what it takes to make RIS: Look on respective trade forum board, find RIS components, outbid all other people. How is this an epic quest mission?
I'd like to see some "true" armorsmith missions, maybe making a Composite Chest piece with all 80% resists (no slices)?

Just for the record... yes I think the drop rates should go back to what they were and keep RIS rare, and no I don't own any RIS pieces.

Visit trade forums, outbid others for 8% Nightsister layers and 7% Janta hide. Not much difference than your version of RIS, eh?
