Actually, the most popular Chef items are all non-master - Brandy, Canape and Synthsteak. The extra exp points easily make master worth it, even if you choose never to make a 'master-level' food.

IMO, having the only marketable items at Master level is bad design, and I would have thought that moving away from that would make Armorsmithing a lot more fun and challenging? Which I kinda thought was the point of playing a game

Composite is way too strong right now. You guys who complain about this have just gotten spoiled with your Uber armor and have forgotten how to play this game without it. Armor should never have been 90% resistant to every kind of damage attack.

I agree, but I am complaining because I have a very strong feeling that they will not take the 90% resist armor out of the game, just make it so it's no longer craftable. Imagine trying to PvP someone if they have 90% resist armor, and you are capped at say 75%. That's a huge difference. At least now, it's possible to go out and get yourself a suite of 90% resist, especially if you befriend an AS.

Not only do I AGREE with a Composite nerf (why go through the trouble for RIS armor when Composite is much better), but I also have another suggestion.

GET RID OF SUBSTAT BUFFING!!! why you may ask?

If you are unable to buff substats:

- HAM cost on armor matters again... HAM cost on weapons matters again... You have to pick and choose your special shots instead of just picking which one to spam constantly... etc...

I think not being able to buff substats would have taken care of the armor issue without them having to resort to nerfing armor... we would have to nerf it ourselves just for people to be able to wear it. And don't give me that "just use food to get it on" crap. If you do that, your subs will be 1 and you will kill yourself with special shot usage during combat.

And if you still wanted to wear that godlike helmet or chest, fine... but the rest of your armor will have to suck for you to get it on...

Just my idea of how they screwed it up and could have easily avoided this issue in the first place.

First complete RIS set made for myself on Aug 1, 2004 with stats of approx 75% Kinetic/4% Stun/5% Acid/65% Base/vuln to Lightsaber. (unsliced)

Diwo (Master Armorsmith/Master Smuggler) - Semi-retired but still making RIS (email me for a guide on what you need for RIS)
Dharmonn (Swordsman)

DCORP Armorcrafting (Armor Division partially operating with 80% Kinetic Composite and 75% Kinetic Ubese up for sale)
Cavalieri Neri, Naboo (Merchant Tent west of our shuttleport at 2588 4804)

I also forgot to mention this, because it dawned on me later. On tempest in the days of the Uhews, Setis, (only heard of him). they fought/fight UNARMORED. Most top level pvpers, dont wear full sets of armor, Chest and helment. that is it. those are the only things targeted by specials. (legs from carbnes, but that is another argument). Will they lower the hams on these high level mobs, or it is gonna take a group of 20 to take a NS whatever, or krayt whatever, then we will hear norhting but the griefing about LOOT.

If they lower weapon stats, TRUST ME, EVERY hardcore PVPer will find the template that the all mighty devs didnt think about, and we will be back at where we started. where does it end. Bad enough in my 80% comp armor i can have a mouse droid damn near kill me. I can just imagine the droid wars will start, every one being a bh or smug, sicing their droid on each other. Lets fixm not nerf, First they wanted to make the crafting true, Based SOLEY on resources, now they want to lower stuff, Come on , give me a break. If is wasnt for the fact that we can change comp color after making it, i would be busier than dirt. How about giving me a vehicle that lasts more than 2hrs, or giving personal repair kits for them. Fixing merchant, improving the e-comerence ability in SWG, IE better tracking of sales, bla bal.

It doesn't. It's the problem with positioning PvP as the elder game for every player. Since launch, the hardcore PvP'ers have done nothing but bring about nerf after nerf. Problem is, when whatever they're complaining about is finally nerfed, the find something new to complain about, and everyhone else is forced to live in the wake of their nonstop nerf whining.

There are too many fragile virtual egos out there. I used to PvP a lot, the difference was that I chose professions I enjoyed, and usually laughed at myself for getting killed in PvP.

Nerfing armor won't do anything to affect PvP balance. Adding a vuneralbility or two to composite won't do anything. If there's another armor type that protects against it, you'll see everyone macro equipping multiple suits in PvP to match the weapon they're up against. If there's no armor to protect against a certain vunerability, you're back where we started with stun weapons.

Nerfs in SWG have never been good. The have consistantly crippled the PvE game, and the PvP players find something else to imbalance the game within a week.

As for PvE, if you think that doc buffs and 90% comp make the game too easy, I have a suggestion for you - don't use them. If it's more exciting for you personally to run around like we used to in the early days (when trying to walk into Fort Tusken was instant death) then I encourage you to play unbuffed and unarmored. There's no need to nerf a playstyle that many of us enjoy when you currently have the ability to play the game the way you want to.

It's funny, but everyone here that is whining about composite nerf are the ones that are able to wear it now. For your information, wookies have been soloing stuff all along without composite. Yes we die sometimes more often than those in composite armor, but does'nt it make the game a little more involved that way. You actually have to think about what you doing sometimes rather than just standing there toe to toe with a friggin kimogila or Rancor? Now with our new armor, it is definately easier to go into battle, but we still don't have all the resists that composite have. I have a set of Wook armor with Krayt scales but my max stat is still only at 50% kinetic and with the scales I actually get some other resists that are just not there with a regular set.

I don't see this as a nerf at all. It will ballance out everyone and put them on the same playing field once again. If you can't see that, then there is really no hope for you.

Wookies have higher HAM too, don't forget. If done properly, I think the armor nerf could be great. I've never seen SOE do anything properly though.

Exactly. Judging from past experience, SOE will simply nerf new stuff, and leave the existing armor in to just decay naturally. They may do something to nerf crates of armor, similar to what they did with crates of pre-nerf FWG5's and scatters, but I doubt they'll be able to do anything about stuff that's be generated already.

YAY!!!

Armor does need to get nerfed. 90% composite takes damage down to 5%, and the armor requires no certs. That's imbalanced.

If they are going to do that to armor, you can also bet that doctor buffs aren't far behind. I have no problems with that, either. I've been a doc for ten months, and I will not feel nerfed because of it. I wish that we did not have to go through this balance, but the game is drifting towards a single way to win (buffs/composite), which does not make for a fun and varied game.

I am not naive. The combat balance will fix some things and break others. It won't be perfect. I only ask that it's better than what's true right now. I want more danger and challenge in this game.

All you wanting armor nerfs are pretty stupid. Instead of nerfing things that actually work, why not fix the broken things?

Why is it every single armor enhancement is for BONE ARMOR it seems? If the devs made loot drops for other armor types, such as for Mabori, Tantel (doesn't even have an adv segment for christs sake), Ubese, etc? Also, the loot drops should be made to be USEFUL also. Seems like most stats on these drops I could craft segments that have twice as good stats.

Perhaps people would start wearing Padded Armor if it didn't have the same encumbrance as Composite, but half the resists. Maybe if there were loot drops of new and improved schematics for Mabori, Tantel, Chitin, Padded, there would be more of these types of armor made by Master Armorsmiths. Why do we even need a schematic for an Interwoven RIS Schematic?!?!?!!?

You have to buff to get a normal suit of Composite Armor on,if I have to get a buff to just get the normal stuff on, you might as well buy the uber heavy stuff then with awesome resists.

Also, why even bother experimenting on the Encumbrance onArms, Gloves, and Boots? Whoop-Dee-Doo, I lowered the Encumbrance from 80-75-80 down to 79-74-79 with 2 experiment points.

If the devs actually played this game, they should be able to fix some things properly.

As per thunderheart ALL existing pieces of composite will be NERFED!. THe justification that they didn't "intend" on composite to be the dominent form or armor. This lovely dirty little secret is accompanied by one more dirty little secret. That dirty little secret is that composite is about to be permenantly NERFED. Were not going to be able to make composite at the same effectiveness.
So here is a prediction for all armorsmiths:
1. Combat Rebalance means universal nerf to the present uselessness of all other armor.
2. Combat Rebalance is so that you can no longer go out and solo in "adventure planets like Yavin, Dath, Dantooine and etc.
3. Combat Rebalance is a way of saying look here, now the jedi robes don't look like crap.
4. What do you want to bet that they cap it so that no matter what we put in it like nightsister layers, segments enhancements and whatever else.
Thunderheart get in here and break the bad news yourself to the armorsmiths who wanted very much for you to find a solution with existing armor instead of calling a rebalance a universal nerf.

Oh yes, it is far better to have almost everyone in the same armor, and to be nearly immortal in combat, and to have the armorsmith profession worthless until one achieves mastery. Please, please, when you design and implement a MMO game, put me on the beta testing list, cause as a game designer - you rock!

As an armorsmith, I say bring it on. People hate change... but I think its pretty obvious this was coming.
