Also, I spent a lot of time as a master tailor before this, and master tailors do not make a lot of money. Fewer people seem to be using BE clothing. The highest-priced item a tailor can make doesn't even come close to the highest-priced item any other crafter can make. (yes I realize that tailors can use pretty much ANY quality resource, but even so...)

For some BE clothing, I could charge MAYBE 20k, and that was stretching it. How much for the highest priced armorsmith items? 300k? more? architect? 250k? weaponsmith? into the millions?. I stuck with tailor for a long time, because I enjoyed it, not because I was in it for the creds. If you are only doing AS for creds, yes, the CU might suck for you, but if you are doing it because you enjoy armorsmithing, chances are, you will still enjoy it.

I'm tired of hearing so many people whine and cry about how much the CU will ruin things. If it's so bad, leave. Stop whining and leave. I grinded out armorsmith because I enjoy crafting and wanted to try a crafting prof I've never done before. I wanted to be an AS by the time CU hit, because there will be lots of new armor changes, and instead of 99.9% of the servers wearing comp armor, there will actually be a variety now, by the looks of it. So maybe the market can open up for once, instead of the market being dominated by 12 point comp armorsmiths. There will be demand for all sorts of armor now. It seems to me like most of the people complaining are the 12 point armorsmiths who have dominated the market and made 10's of millions of creds.

Boo-hoo, so you may havesome competitionnow since everyone wont be wearing your comp armor. You have been one of the (if not the most) profitable professions in the game. I'm shedding a tear.

That depends on what day of the week it is, how many adult beverages have been consumed and which planets are in alignment.

Also, I spent a lot of time as a master tailor before this, and master tailors do not make a lot of money.

Thats right, save for BE stuff, clothing is just decoration. Whereas armour, and my chosen field of weapons are required to survive in the GCW

Fewer people seem to be using BE clothing.

How many Docs, Ents and scouts are on your server? Plus many of the people I know have melee defense items or bleed resist to help survive.

The highest-priced item a tailor can make doesn't even come close to the highest-priced item any other crafter can make. (yes I realize that tailors can use pretty much ANY quality resource, but even so...)

Save for the BE items, clothing is nothing more than decoration that is eaisly made. Plus, the market sets the price. If clothing had value, you'd make more money.

For some BE clothing, I could charge MAYBE 20k, and that was stretching it.

True, but then how much did you pay for the resources, the loot to enhance. Plus, are players willing to PAY what you want? Market forces are in play.

How much for the highest priced armorsmith items? 300k? more? architect? 250k? weaponsmith? into the millions?.

Again, relitive value. That Acklay Powerhammer I charge 10 million credits may seem overpriced to a tailor, but to the loot hunter that can make 100 million off of it, its more than worth it. Or, that set of 90% comp armour will allow a PvP'er to survive longer than his enemy. In addition, it takes a HELL of alot more resources (and much more specific and higher quality) to make a set of comp armour than a pair of pants. AS and WS and Archies have much less margin than you think. Think about it: How many items must we get sliced to get that 90% suit, or that 800 damage hammer? And what do we do with the stuff that doesn't slice well? Thats right, we are forced to sell it below cost for the most part.

Which would be a boon for you, seeing how you'd have less compitition and would be able to snap up alot of the loose resources.

I grinded out armorsmith because I enjoy crafting and wanted to try a crafting prof I've never done before.

Very noble of you. I'd suspect that you're not being 100% honest, seeing how you yourself admit that being an AS is so profitable. Rather, your comments come off as parasitic and self serving.

I wanted to be an AS by the time CU hit, because there will be lots of new armor changes, and instead of 99.9% of the servers wearing comp armor, there will actually be a variety now, by the looks of it.

What makes you think people aren't going to see what the most powerful armour in their class is and then buy it? We'll now see 3 types instead of 2. With the smattering of factional and quest armours.

So maybe the market can open up for once, instead of the market being dominated by 12 point comp armorsmiths.

Heaven forfend people wanting to buy fromthe best. Heaven forfend that people were willing to spend millions and millions of credits on buying skilltapes to make them better. Darn these evil people wanting to do their best! They should settle for mediocracy and LIKE IT!

There will be demand for all sorts of armor now. It seems to me like most of the people complaining are the 12 point armorsmiths who have dominated the market and made 10's of millions of creds.

Yeah, these dirty scallowags! How dare they make money! How dare they build up name recognition and a loyal following in their customers! That might mean they worked hard at doing their best, and people saw and appreciated that.

Boo-hoo, so you may havesome competitionnow since everyone wont be wearing your comp armor.

Gee, all these people are worried about competition now? Oh yes, I forgot on each server when you are handed that 12 point suit, you're entered into the armoursmith cartel. Hey Bob, we now have to crush all new smiths. Gee Dave, that seems like work, I'm too busy lasying in CNet watching the money roll in and not working.

You have been one of the (if not the most) profitable professions in the game. I'm shedding a tear.

I think young man, that you're not going to last as an AS. You'll be whining about the resource mongers and the loot sellers and how hard it is, then you'll complain about not being able to sell your armour at what you want. Go back to being a tailor. Its alot eaiser.

After all the noob AS's that love these changes have been crafting for 3-6-9-12 months down the road, they will not be making any progress in the game. There are absolutely no goals to attain in the future.

What goals do you have in the game? Be an average armorsmith? An average combat character? With all these changes, there will be no difference between someone that just started playing and veteran players. If you have absolutely no goals that you are trying to attain, why are you playing?

Certain resources that people have spent a fortune to stock are now crap.
There are many smiths (rich and poor) who have millions of top quality resources (soon to be crap stuff) stocked.

2) Experimentation is being changed to a one-bar thingy.
No smith can make different armor than their neighbor smith.
No more separate experimentation on HAM costs, Base, Specials anymore.
Everyone is stuck with just one option.
3) Experimentation points are not needed anymore.
A 10 point smith will be able to make the same stuff as a 12 point, because again, it a one-bar thing and you can't experiment more than 10 points per item to begin with.
Something like this, I think... LOL

Last I heard/read, the requirements were changed back from OQ/UT to OQ/SR. One small victory for the AS community.

As i stated in my last post...it HAS BEEN CHANGED BACK.

The only thing that remains is that final combine is 33/33/33 with OQ/SR/DR as the stats needed

DR!?!? Where the heck did that come from? Do they just have one of those door prize tumblers full of papers with different resource stats on em?

To the original poster... umm, yeah.

Aye. AS is good money. And you know what? So is tailor if you actually work at it and build up a customer base. Also proffit margins are just as big as with armorsmith if you know what your doing. Also before youcomplain about us charging 300k for a suit of armor how about you look at the costs of AS vs costs of a Tailor?

I am Tailor first and foremost, with armoursmith as an alt

To the origional poster claiming Tailors make little money. I make 1-2 milliona day fairly regular on clothing sales (maybe less some days, its quite random) and have been a tailor since september 03.

Quoted the above as it says pretty much a part of what i wanted to say also.

Now as an armoursmith i do not have as much invested into the proffession (resources at least)as many of you, ive come and gone many times with AS vendors, yet allways kept the character as an AS for well over a year now.

I like the 'sound' of the new changes on CU and accept them because i realise they are neccassary, i hope they keep most the resource requirements the same as the old system when it finally goes live however, as i think that is many AS's point of contention with this new system. My only annoyance atm is that im not manufacturing any more armour till the CU, so waiting is a bit frustrating, but im looking forward to making armour other than composite

The CU is coming whether you like it or not. Maybe you are being 'wronged by SOE, maybe not. Most of the people whining about the CU on the forums are powergaming idiots who dont realize that it is BECAUSE of people's requests, the whole combat / armor system is being changed. Some people want to be completely independant, in an MMORPG, and not work as a group with anyone. That is about to change, and good.

The game was horribly lop-sided and lacking, both combat and crafting wise, and people demanded that changes be made, that is why the CU is coming. People were sick of one type of armor dominating the game among many other things. If it offends the people who wanted to leave everything the way it was, so be it, move on, the game will be better without you anyway.

People take so much offense personally, thinking that SOE is out to get them and screw them. Umm... no, they aren't. They are responding to players request to fix and balance the game. They are attempting to make the game better. Is SOE all about money? Of course they are. , they charge a ludicrous amount for people to play each month. This is the company that charged game reviewers for copies of SWG to review. They are about nothing more than money, and that is why they are changing things. The combat reviews for WoW blew away SWG, and SOE has to respond by making their game more competitive. For the long term life of this game, things needed to be radically changed. Yes, they may lose a lot of the older players, but they will also attract a lot more new ones.

So for all the people who are still going to do nothing but complain and threaten to quit, please, go ahead and do it. There is a lineup of new players waiting to take your customers.

Firstly your attitude is abysmal, which alone shows a lack of insight into the game itself from a broad perspective, aswell as being particularly apathetic towards other people, something which doesnt often make a successfull dedicated crafter (maybe thats why you dropped tailor?)

Secondly its still in test centre so saying people who dont like it should leave is just plain rediculous and just as short sighted as those very power gamers that you yourself ridicule.

Thirdly i cant speak for everyone on this, but ive no intention of trying to stop the CU, nor would i expect any success if i did try, Yes it IS comming, and i cannot wait for it, however as with all changes nothing is perfect, they want feedback, we give feedback. IE resource requirements? /grin

Fourthly i thought you wasnt posting anymore.

Sounds to me like someone is just trying to push buttons in a vain attempt at getting rid of any competition.

The CU is coming whether you like it or not. Maybe you are being 'wronged by SOE, maybe not. Yes, the CU is coming whether we like it or not. But as someone else has said, we are not whining, we are venting. SOE claims to be interactive and communicate with it's player base but this couldn't be further from the truth 364 days a year. As for powergaming idiots? Well, I for one spend an average of 4 hours a day during the week and 6-10 hours on the weekends playing. Not powergaming, as most of that time is spent handmaking orders for guildies and friends for things OTHER THAN composite. People requested that Armorsmiths not only need more resources, but the stats need to change and less experimentation thus overall causing the prices to skyrocket on armor? I want NAMES of these spineless idiots! Finally, SHOW ME where, in the definition of MMORPG it says that people are REQUIRED to play in groups. Yes, I play solo about 1/2 the time. But that's more because of the fact that my schedule at WORK (you should try it sometime, sounds like you don't know what it is) has me at odd hours some days.

Lacking crafting wise....ok....maybe for TAILORS....but AS was never lacking and actually a CHALLENGE. Again you say people demanded changes to crafting? NAMES! I WANT NAMES! Yes, one type of armor gets boring real quick when that's all you make. Gee, guess that's why I've sold nearly 200 FULL suits of padded in the last 6 monthes as opposed to the probably 30 full suits of composite in the same time frame.

People take so much offense personally, thinking that SOE is out to get them and screw them. Umm... no, they aren't. They are responding to players request to fix and balance the game. They are attempting to make the game better. Is SOE all about money? Of course they are. , they charge a ludicrous amount for people to play each month. Yes, they may lose a lot of the older players, but they will also attract a lot more new ones.

Fix and balance the game. Ok....and at what point of the list of probably over 1000 bugs that are STILL left from Beta should I start listing? The rubberbanding bug that they claimed was fixed? The warping mob they claimed was fixed? Or the simple sit-slide bug they claimed was fixed? They can't fix problems that Beta Testers like me submitted countless times during and after Beta and you think they can balance and fix the game in just a couple of monthes of ADDING MORE BUGGED CODE? Let's pull you back down to reality. Yes, I am PAYING SOE. And you know what? So are thousands of others, all of which continuously express their dissatisfaction with things only to be ignored. Combat reviews for WoW blew away SWG and SOE has to respond by making their game more like WoW! If I wanted to play WoW then I wouldn't be playing SWG. They may lose alot of older players but I don't share your optimism in attracting alot more new ones. JTLS was supposed to do that. They didn't get NEAR the numbers they wanted to see for "New Accounts". And why? Because people told their friends that SOE, despite what they tell the press, doesn't listen to it's customer base.

So for all the people who are still going to do nothing but complain and threaten to quit, please, go ahead and do it. There is a lineup of new players waiting to take your customers.

Complain and threaten to quit? Now there's a novel idea. Why should we spend days/weeks/months/YEARS trying to communicate issues with SOE Devs, knowing they won't listen anyway. Let's all stomp our feet and hold our breath until we turn blue in the face. Let them have my customers if I quit (which I've not threatened to do). Problem is, they won't have the relationship I have with my customers and they won't have the trust/loyalty I have with my customers.

Bottom line.....Still too many problems in the game BEFORE CURB was announced. And those of us from Beta know that the next 6 weeks aftewards will be near daily updates fixing this and that. Maybe you should just sit down, keep your hands off the keyboard, and try to UNDERSTAND what we are telling the Devs and not how we tell them.

no, it is oq/sr.

If you are only doing AS for creds, yes, the CU might suck for you, but if you are doing it because you enjoy armorsmithing, chances are, you will still enjoy it.

AS is one of, if not the most compicated crafting skills in the game. This what we enjoy about it. Now we are becoming tailors (no offense to tailors).

I'm tired of hearing so many people whine and cry about how much the CU will ruin things.

We are voicing our concerns about how the CU affects AS in an effort to get it changed. Just like we did for the oq/ut issue. Consider that since you don't know the craft you might not understand our concerns.

So maybe the market can open up for once, instead of the market being dominated by 12 point comp armorsmiths.

The market has always been open for the smart crafter.

Please then enlighten us to how this corrects combat. You seem to have all the answers and know how its going to fix it. What are you an armorsmith wannabe that couldnt cut it with the smiths as it were, and hope this will give you the edge? Give me a break.

The facts are clear, your still going to be in the same boat as the other smiths on the learning curb, and if you couldnt cut in live now, what makes you think you will do better in the cu?

My point is, the smiths that are complaining have also put up posts on how to correct some of the phalacys with this cu, but the devs arent listening. If they are, tests center doesnt show it or the lack of their response to our questions. So, that only leaves to the conclusion they dont care and as such they vent. Yes vent, gee there is a new word for you. Its not whining, its venting frustrations at what they see as a complete lack of communication on the part of soe. If you can not get that down, then you are indeed whats wrong with the game. You whine about the imbalance because you cant cope.

I would just like to point out that no one asked that the armor system be changed. The complaints were about balance and trying to keep everyone from running around in composite. What they've done in order to 'balance' armor is to them all built off the same cores with three different types and only some slight differentiation. I mean how can composite and bone be built off the same core. It just doesn't make sense. The revamp of the system when it could have been tweaked is what is making everyone hot under the collar.
