Yeah, it's really depressing that they are turning our prof into artisan or architect. If they totally change the stat requirements, as the rumors say, it is going to be really, really bad.

Like most everyone, I started out crafting to make a lot of money, but found that it was much more enjoyable to try to crank the last percent out to get some 73% base composite, or get chased half way across dath to get a colat iron that was 8 points better in OQ/SR.

I got a kick out of having people wear my comp in the stock color, or play my alt and lead an assault with everyone wearing stuff I made.

Later, when the money really became irrelelvant, I got the biggest kick from custom crafting stuff for guildies and it became all about the craft. I didn't use any of the calculators out there, it was more fun to mix and experiment and get things wrong, to learn how to do them better.

Now, they are turning AS into a massively over-simplified joke. Putting aside the massive resource losses I'll take along with everyone else, the bigger loss will be fun.

No, they changed it back to OQ+SR, so many of the original "I am loosing millions" post are not valid anymore. See, the devs listen sometimes if you shout loud enough...

.... If you are only doing AS for creds, yes, the CU might suck for you, but if you are doing it because you enjoy armorsmithing, chances are, you will still enjoy it. ...

Now, this is where you missed the boat. They biggest gripe AS have with the new system is that they take the enjoyment out of crafting. They have added a lot of nice armor, loots options, etc, but who cares when they turn us into assembly workers? For all practible purposes there is no more experimentation, no challenges. Most of us wouldl whine a little over loosing money, but would still be there because the crafting itself was fun and challenging. The new system <insert explicit word>, and we are trying to get the devs to listen to us here as well. Otherwise, quitting becomes a very valid option.

Hahaha, yeah, I was just about to post a reply, but it got too long...

The original poster just has no idea about what's going on, so I think everyone's trying to educate him.

What a cool community.

lol yeah my first post half way up was going to be long then it became so long-winded i decided to go with a shorter response lol

can someone give me the cliff notes version

1) Armor schematics are being changed.
Certain resources that people have spent a fortune to stock are now crap.
There are many smiths (rich and poor) who have millions of top quality resources (soon to be crap stuff) stocked.

2) Experimentation is being changed to a one-bar thingy.
No smith can make different armor than their neighbor smith.
No more separate experimentation on HAM costs, Base, Specials anymore.
Everyone is stuck with just one option.

3) Experimentation points are not needed anymore.
A 10 point smith will be able to make the same stuff as a 12 point, because again, it a one-bar thing and you can't experiment more than 10 points per item to begin with.

Something like this, I think... LOL

Actually...they changed it back. The stats needed are still OQ/SR. Just the final combine willbe 33/33/33 with OQ/SR/DR.

Was in TC5 last night (Maximus) and i found this out that they are keeping it this way.

Not true, I think the poster that said he was losing millions is refering to the outside being just a shell now, we have lots invested in the outside as well as the layers. My solid petro and my gases aren't used anywhere. I've lost millions there.

To the poster. It's not about the money, it's not about the twelve point suits that are now virtually worthless, it's that armorsmithing was the most challenging profession, you had to manage resources, more than any other profession because you were going to use a lot of them. You had to market yourself through differentiation, which you won't be able to do since loot is the differentiator now. You're not even master yet, I point that out for two reasons, First Armorsmith is the one profession where the journey begins at master, so you'll grind it out and then begin to learn your trade, it's unlike any other profession in that fact. Second, your attitude here has been to come in and tell everyone to quit griping about something you haven't even experienced yet. That's the reason for the lashout you've received.

I and most AS feel violated by SOE because they have taken our work, research, and effort and discarded it. Weapons changes for the CU were fit nicely into everything that currently exists, yet we recieved an overhaul to remove the challenges from what we so much enjoyed.

Also....I can't help but wonder why they just don't keep OQ/SR/UT/MA.....but what do I know?

I brought up creds because it looks like the richest people in the game seem mad that they are going to lose a lot of business, they are all threatening to quit, so shut up and quit already. Firstly, I am not a noob, I have been playing for over a year, secondly, I do not have problems making creds, since I have a combat toon that makes plenty from looting and auctioning things. I craft because I enjoy crafting, whether anyone buys what I make or not.

Do you know what will stop you from being a great comp armorsmith? nothing. You can still be a good armorsmith, just unfortunatley for you, only 3 profs will be able to wear your comp armor.

Is it bad that a lot of your previously used resources might not be useful in the AS prof anymore? yes, it may seem unfair, but whining about it wont do anything. The changes have been known about for a while, so use up your resources making and selling your armor before the CU hits.

again, boo-hoo.

Ya know, its players like you with not even in inkling of what we are talking about that makes me feel sorry for the game today. I have been an armorsmith since 10/2003. I played an armorsmith so that I could help provide my guild with the best quality of materials. I give away more armor then I can shake a stick at. Why do I do this, because I want to feel proud in that people like my armor and use it. Yes, I also sell armor, but I do this so that I can in turn by resources to keep making my armor. I even give credits away because its not about credits to me. ITs about being proud of my work. I will never forget the day when I made my first set of 80 kin 52 base padded with no extra loots, just materials. I was so happy, I gave 50 suits away to players in theed, just because I was elated at doing it. Then there was the 80 kin 30 base ubese. You see, for some of us, thats what its about.

With these new rules, we are all going to be experimenting the same thing. There is no diversity, its now all gonna be about loots in order to make the armor better. It shouldnt be that way. We can no longer experiment on durability or condition, as its now all incompassed in that one line. And the justification that was given to us by the developer just doesnt hold water. He stated that it was because of broken loots that they did this. Now im no rocket scientist, but it seems like he was saying it was easier to nerf us rather than do their job and fix the broken loots.

I can understand you might be frustrated with listening to us old timers as you call us ranting and raving. But I think the fact that we have been around for as long as we have, we can tell a nerf when we see one.

BTW, if it was about making credits, I could make alot more flying missions in space then with armor. Currently master pilots can make 2 mil every 2.5 hours in space, i sell about 1 to 2 mil a night in armor. So its not about credits, trust me.

Last I heard/read, the requirements were changed back from OQ/UT to OQ/SR. One small victory for the AS community.

The only thing that remains is that final combine is 33/33/33 with OQ/SR/DR as the stats needed

If I were a new armorsmith, I'd like the CURB changes too! No need to catch up top established smiths. No need really to learn the intracies of the craft because there really won't be any. The proposed changes are more like combining architect with tailor and making the stats matter. You'll consume huge quantities of resource to create a product that is virtually identical to everyone elses. Experimentation won't matter much; if you made armor padding as a tailor, you'll have no trouble with the new system.

I started in July of last year and worked hard. Now I'm twelve points and have millions of resources socked away just like the big boys. I don't have some of the antique resources but I do just fine. I like armorsmith because it is complex. It is crafting for the thinking player. To me the proposed CURB system is lowering the complexity while bumping up the tedium. More work to make the same boring product as everyone else, no differentiation between someone who knows what they are doing and a dilletante.

SOE has stated that they want a game where you can log on and get right into the action without spending time looking for buffs or shopping for gear. Looks like crafting is heading in that direction, too, where you just need resources, not knowledge, to make something. That doesn't appeal to me.

I'm NOT shouting about how I'm going to cancel my account. I'm going to stick it out and see what the CURB is like in live. If armorsmithing stops being fun, I'm done. And since I have an alt or two to support my crafting, I don't know why they'd hang around either.

hmmm players like me that ruin the game.

Back to my original point, which no one seems to take to heart...if you dont like it, then leave. If things are so bad, if you have been so horribly wronged, then leave. Quit. Get out of here.

The CU is coming whether you like it or not. Maybe you are being 'wronged by SOE, maybe not. Most of the people whining about the CU on the forums are powergaming idiots who dont realize that it is BECAUSE of people's requests, the whole combat / armor system is being changed. Some people want to be completely independant, in an MMORPG, and not work as a group with anyone. That is about to change, and good.

The game was horribly lop-sided and lacking, both combat and crafting wise, and people demanded that changes be made, that is why the CU is coming. People were sick of one type of armor dominating the game among many other things. If it offends the people who wanted to leave everything the way it was, so be it, move on, the game will be better without you anyway.

People take so much offense personally, thinking that SOE is out to get them and screw them. Umm... no, they aren't. They are responding to players request to fix and balance the game. They are attempting to make the game better. Is SOE all about money? Of course they are. , they charge a ludicrous amount for people to play each month. This is the company that charged game reviewers for copies of SWG to review. They are about nothing more than money, and that is why they are changing things. The combat reviews for WoW blew away SWG, and SOE has to respond by making their game more competitive. For the long term life of this game, things needed to be radically changed. Yes, they may lose a lot of the older players, but they will also attract a lot more new ones.

So for all the people who are still going to do nothing but complain and threaten to quit, please, go ahead and do it. There is a lineup of new players waiting to take your customers.
