Are there any drawbacks to getting a weapon sliced? You would think that the slicing process might hurt it a little.

what exacctly does slicing do?...what are its pros and its cons? all i know so far is that i do it to my weapons and it seems to be good...

That's not correct. A weapon can be repaired after it has been sliced. However, the weapon will decay at a faster rate. Also a failed slice does not harm the weapon, but it can never be sliced again.

I have some points left and figured id go for smuggler, but where do i get locked containers? Which Npc`s do they drop on, most frequently. Havent gotten any yet.

off random trash mobs, meatlumps, thugs ect ect..

your best bet is to shout that you will pay to open containers for people, use clamps and guarentee success

or buy the containers outright from people.

I finally got to slicing 2 today. So I decided to try to slice a CDEF pistol that I got in a locked container. It told me that I need a Weapon Upgrade Tool. Is this something I can make or do I always have to buy it? Please help, I know very liitle about weapon slicing

Please read the FAQ stickied near the Top of this forum. It contains some info you REALLY NEED to know to do successful slicing.

To answer your question this time....

You can NOT make a Weapon Upgrade Kit (WUK) nor an Armor Upgrade Kit (AUK). You will HAVE to buy them. Crates of 25 range from 3K to 5K typically.

In order to slice a Weapon or a piece of Armor successfully, you will need the following:
1 molecular clamp
1precision slicing knife with at least 2 charges left on it
1 WUK or AUK

You can make the moleclamps: 50 metal + 40 non-ferrous metal
You can make the knives: 16 metal

Like Way'ev-Da said, read the FAQ, we're not tryin to be jerks its just that there is a LOT of good info in it. Having said that one other thing you may want to try on WUK's & AUK's, especially if you are in a guild or have weaponsmith or armorsmith friends, is to get the resources yourself and ask them to make schematics for you. If they are friends and/or guild mates they are usually more than happy to help. This way you can run them out in an equipment factory yourself. I usually try to run harvs for the needed resources for a cpl of weeks when I see my crates of AUK's or WUK's running low. That way I can usually run out several dozen crates and keepa stockpile before I run out. On a related note, its a good idea to go ahead & buy your own equipment factory(knives & clamps, auks & wuks), and your own food & chem factory ( for spices)if you intend to keep Smuggler. They will more than pay for themselves in the long run. If you're feeling real industrious later on a fusion gen wont hurt formaking muon, to power your factories, and sell off any extra energy. Just a few tips from cousin Jimmy.

does 5k a slice no matter wot it is sound fair ?, we provide a much needed service and i dont see that many masters running around bestine tbh , its a bit like master docs for buffs some charge 6k some charge 12k cant do anything about cuase u need it ..

Like Tonteth said, it's up to you, however there are suggestions not to be too cheep as in the "all about the money" thread. I myself charge 5k for the slice, with additional 2.5-5k for exceptional results.

Will getting master smuggler help me achieve better slicing percentage? Or is it the same when you have slicing IV? Also, is it true that the more you slice after you get slice IV the better you get, or is everything random all the time?
