Thread: An apology of sorts to the AS Community, and some things to clear up on my perception of things.

Mate, if I were you, I would have stopped at this is sort of an apology and left it at that. We all got hot under the collar over the weekend, me included. That doesnt change the fact that most of us who got hot got hot not at the fact Okram was fired persei, but the way it was done. Alot of people do things wrong from time to time, heck I got 2 accts banned that night, hehe. Anyway, SOE was wrong for their approach. Heck I had a friend who was banned for typing one line, what happened. He was trying to get a constructive idea of what happened and the mods banned him for that. So all in all, I think alot of people made some mistakes.

Me, im not apologizing for what I said, because as anyone who knows me will tell you, if I perceive myself to be correct, then I must be shown Im wrong to change my stance. Mind you, the last sentence was not directed at you but soe. The thing to remember here, is that we are all armorsmiths and as such, on the same side. ITs kind of an us vs them. Now when I say that, I mean us vs them in opinions of how the cu should be done as far as armorsmith profession is concerned. But thats a story for another thread.

Anyway, while your attempt was admirable, I think you should have left the opinion reiteration for another thread. Just my 2 cents, but there it is.

It is so hard to be respectful toplayers who support the nerf, yet I can't really blameany players. It is SOE that I really hate. SOE has just manipulated some players with the -jedi mind trick-. "Trust us, we'll make the game great. You don't need to flame us."

Should I have turned on /sarcasm first?

Believe me, I take everything with a grain of salt, be it from SOE or anyone else. However, I just can step back and see a lot of good coming from the CURB, moreso than bad, because the fundamental idea is sound.

However, that doesn't mean as is, I like it. I still believe:

  • Armor should have more usefulness in PvE

  • The Icons should be made two-tone and colored based on the novice profession they apply to (rifleman to marksman, etc)

  • The Exp Lines in Armorsmith should be split up (I have a post on this)

  • Factory times should be reduced

  • MOB Difficulty should be brought down a few levels from where it is on the TC right now

And I got a few more, but I got to get going to work.

However, I was here when the SWG website opened, and everyone was optimistic. I got to read what the intent of the developers were from the beginning. And I can say the CURB fits that picture, even if the mechanisms are a little different now. So as such, why should I hate the devs when I saw this coming ever since the game launched, at least in one form or another?

Like I said, it doesn't mean I always agree with them. I just don't think the foundation is as shakey as as some players make it. Inconvenient, yes. Sometimes to I scratch my head and go "what were the devs thinking?" Oh hell yes. But I am not going to just start bashing. Rather, I am going to keep positive pressure on them to make solid changes while maintaining balance. I can't say I blame some players for losing patience...but that doesn't mean I am going to join you in being impatient...

Hi Zion,

In your first post you wrote;

"I am not what this community needs right now in a corrospondant" (sic)

and

"I think I would not serve this community well"

and then

"That does not mean I will step down if it is offered to me, however."

Could you explain what this means, please?

I am a bit new to SWG. Can you be forced into becoming a correspondent against your will?
Or do you want to be the correspondent for some reason other than serving the community well?

Certainly. It means that while I don't think that I would be the best fit, personally, if I were offered the position, I would explain that to the person in charge of hiring the corrospondant. If they change their mind, fine, but if they feel very strongly about me being in the position, I would take it, at least just long enough to see if I was right about being able to reach the devs by communicating a little differently than past corrospondants.

In other words, the only way I would end up taking the corrospondant position is if they felt strongly that I should be the next candidate. The reason being, is that while I could flat out say no, sometimes people on the outside can see things in you that you don't see in yourself. Therefore, if they felt that strongly about me, I would join up to honor that. But if I got the impression that they were looking for just another hunk of meat to fill a spot (which I know some of you feel, but I reserve judgement on that, never having been a corrospondant before), then I undoubtedly would not take the position. My 2 motivations for taking the position would be the feeling I could help this profession, and that the hirer felt that I was strongly the lead candidate for the job.

If either one is lacking, then I would not be interested, as at this time, I feel it would be a disservice to the community to take the position under any other circumstances. But the reason I would take it if both those conditions are there is because I feel I would be letting this profession down by NOT taking the position. But only if both of those criteria are met - if they are not, I have no qualms about turning the position down.

Then honestly, I would highly doubt you like the game to begin with, because I by no means am bigger than the game, nor should one person ever be a deciding factor whether or not you play a game - if it becomes that, then you likely shouldn't be playing the game anyway, as you most probably would be happier elsewhere.

Not a flame, just information. It's spelled corrospond"e"nt.

Can you imagine how cool the original combat system would've been if they put the same amount of work and effort into it as they did the CU?

Actually, I agree. You simply aren't Correspondent material.

To spell it straight to you, you're too much of an asskisser.

Brown nosing, will not get this profession anywhere.

Just a little bit of info. Guildwars beta was this weekend to get some kinks worked out. Allthough it doesnt have crafting like we are use too, it still has some very nice game play. Will make a nice change from the *bleep* we have had to put up with SOE. I figure it will last til d and d comes out and star trek online.

Zion, as to your post about not liking the game, I actually loved the game. I know that post wasnt directed at me, but the game has gone down hill for quite some time. They are trying to save a sinking ship im afraid. Its ok to want to be enticing to other newer players but soe has to realize that if you dont keep the player base you have here, then your not doing a good job.

Im glad you dropped from the AS correspondent position. I think you and I are alot alike on 1 aspect, short tempered and quite set in our ways to thinking. Neither one of us would make a good one, and im sort of glad you came to that realization. Thats not a slight at you by any means, its just some people(me included)are just not cut out to hold positions like that because of our opinions.

Yeah, I understand. The ironic part is that the people calling me a brown-noser are really no different than me in terms of attitude - they simply sit on the other side of the fence. I figure it is impossible to reason with such people, so I am taking a page out of the book of people much wiser than myself, and for the most part, are ignoring them.

With regards to the game itself, I guess the reason I don't mind is that it hearkens back to the first days of SWG, when a group of 4 was needed to take out a dewback lair, and crafters often hired muscle to protect them on harvesting and factoryruns, and really, aside from the bugs, how much fun everyone had doing that. I just never forgot that, as it was my most fun time in this game. And I guess I just see the CURB as a return to those Halcyon days (no pun intended there :smileywink, where people feared for their lives from a womp rat, and assembling a group to even tackle ONE krayt was a big deal.

Is it ironic that when the game was buggiest, it was also at its healthiest? The community was close knit, and the fellowship was unreal. Entertainers were not AFK, but there, talking to you as you sat in a cantina, and you could always find a medic or doc in a med center to heal you if you needed it. The game now, pre-CURB, is just a shell of those gloriously fun days, where everyone has drifted apart, used to doing their own thing, guilds have NO point anymore other than free stuff and a house in a city, and killing a Nightsister is very mundane. I still have fun, but nowhere near as much fun as those earlier days, because of the people I met, and the groups I hunted with, and the tales we wove together.

Romanticised? Maybe. But by God, I loved that game back then. I remember when the whole Radiant server came together, NOT in a form of protest, but as a player event to take on the Tusken Fort. People in strike teams of 20, Lag here and there, and both players and sand people dying left and right. And you know what?

It was FUN.

So yes, I admit, I am a little selfish, and standoffish whenever someone I perceive as a "soloist" or a "l33t d00d" whines about not being able to do this or that by themselves. Because I remember the glory days, and for all the bugs and crud and crap we had to put up with, they were some of the finest days that could be had in SWG.

Because we had to work together. And we learned to love it that way.
