Hey,

Thanks for the guide, learned quite a bit from it.

I had a go myself but I'm having trouble hitting 70% base, and going off the figures (almost identical to yours) I'm left wondering if its the resources

I get 34% on my segment, but when I test it (on gloves, what else ) I can only max it out to 69% (which then leaves the specials at 79%). I'm obviously very close, and my resources are all top notch apart from my Beyrllius Copper, which is something like 450OQ 350SR. It combines to start at 45% and with 8 or 9 points (depending on an amazing) it'll hit the 69%

I'm not sure to what values that copper is gated though and if there is a better one out there which I might have to try and buy off someone.

I don't think I can get 35% unfortunately, i'm using the best of my resources as it is (and I think the best we currently have on Intrpeid). I maxed out the two kinetic layers to about 92% each and it still wouldn't get closer to 35%. If I push the energy base any higher then I won't be able to hit 10% special, though I might be able to if I get 3 amazings in a row (which I haven't been able to do yet, was lucky to get two).

I'd be interested to know if any 'smiths from Intrepid have got 35% and with what resources

Yes I think its your copper holding you back on that there, with 34% you shold be able to hit 70% base

First of all, what a great guide.

I had a go at making some of this armor, I got 80/80/69 which I was very happy with. When I did final assembly though I had some unusual results, it was fine when I put the biceps and bracers together, but when I made the chest, helmet and pants they came out at 79/79/68. I have noticed this before, I used a slightly different beryllius copper (itsa little better but I dont have much of it left, thats why I wasnt using it on the arm parts) and the results were 80/80/69 again, has anyone else had a similar thing happen?

You know I see alot of positive response to this info, I like what I hear for the most part. But a few things concern me.

1st off it seems here that alot of the negative response folks are either slicing there armor presale, or are trying to cater to folks that can afford 5 to 10 suits at a time. I my self and a few other AS on my server agree that this armor is good either way you slice it, 80% is nothin to sneeze at when using armor, 80% is already to strong imo. The main reason I make and sell this type of armor, is the majority of folks cant afford 5 suits, some can barely afford one suit, so they like to have the guarantee of good resists. I tried the whole sliced armor deal with a bit of stun and electric stuff a while back needless to say theencum stuff rots on the vendor even when you reduce the prices it still sits there, and I seen people that do sell the sliced stuff, sell the good slices at considerable mark up, so either way its done, the person is gonna pay out the nose for good slices, and for what? Armor theyre gonna need to replace soon cause it was really meant for grinding.

To the person that posted that this is inferior armor,I challenge you to make this style, oh yeah now that Ive posted a guide it will be simple now that most people will beable to understand the mechanics of it all. In fact I challenge you to make the type with 4 specials and still have 80% 70%. I dont claim this is the best type of armor, Im not some newb that doesn't know how to make low encum armor, I make what people want, I dont cater to the rich elite, though they number many of my customers. I wish more people were open minded about making more than the general every day armor that you see. Make something inovative, yeah true theres not much variety, but still dont burn your self out making the same ol stuff every day.

Ok im rambling now, dont take this as criticism, take this as a challenge to come up with something better. I get told all the time not to tell people how I make the armor that I do, but I feel it will make for a better time if everyone can discuss ideas and come up with new stuff cause they understand the mechanics of the crafting process. So if any new smiths, or veteran smiths want to pick my brain for ideas, or anyone has some suggestions for an armor type or any thing of the sort gimme a shout, send me a cross server tell, something. Just no more of this close minded ranting about how your armor is better just because you can slice it all to 90%. Im not interested in that, any one can make electric layered armor and slice it and call them selves"uber"Im interested in something that makes you think, challenge yourself to come up with something that blows people away.

Well im done on this, Im glad this has been a good discussion for all. Oh and to all the smiths on my server, if you need help on what materials are best, gimme a shout, that goes for you to Nido

yeah I have had simular things, usually I have to use a better berylius copper on my helm and chest to get them up to the stats of everything else, especially when my segments are just touching the border of 70%

Glad you like the guide hope things go good for you.

You must be just barely hitting the 69%. There's a slight difference in the resource ratios between pieces. It usually shows up on the chest.

69% base is damn good armor. I have yet to see 70% (un-enhanced) base on my server.

Thanks to you Kinesthe and Slyder.

I think this armor is great and I was so pleased to get 69% base, its the highest I have achieved. *Looks Janta hide?*

I must say that this guide has helped me understand things a lot more than I did. It has stirred my curiousity and instead of just making endless 80% kinetic suits I will now be experimenting to see whats possible. In fact am looking forward to the combat balance when the other armor types will become useful again. I have a load of different loot scales, segements, layers, shardsand hides to play around with

I wont make electric layer armor for slicing to +80% anymore, it seems a waste to me. I tried it once and ended up with a whole lot of parts that were 63% base with very nice encumberance slice, of course it didnt sell very well at all, 'its not 80% is it'.

For unsliced armor, you're right, you can't beat those resists. But an effect slice on pretty much any run-of-the-mill armor will make it better than yours in every way, regardless of what slice yours gets. And since there's no reason not to slice armor (I don't know anyone who doesn't slice their armor) your stuff comes out inferior in the end.

Anyone can make 'good' armor. And while your armor may be slightly better than the average 'good' armor, the average good armor has a 50-50 chance of slicing into 'great' armor. Your armor has no such chance, and thusly, is inferior.

It's simple logic.
