Just the fact he's getting 70% base indicates he's been doing it for a while. I'm getting 69% on kinetic layered....and very close to 70.

Nice to see someone taking the time to experiment with different layers.

It basically all boils down to....what sells and reputation. My guess...he's doing well in both.

Thanks so much for posting this. I also agree that making a suit that either type of slice will be considered welcome is desireable. As a customer I wouldn't be wasting my money buying up 4-5 suits to get the one suit I wanted... Armor costs a lot of money, and I think giving people this assurance is not a bad thing at all.

I'm going to give this a shot. Great post!

Good luck with the all-electric stuff, Kinesthe. I had trouble explaining the benefits to people when I tried selling it a while ago. It comes out with lower ham than any other layered suit and all resists except electric are slicable - seems simple enough I called mine slicer's delight. Maybe Ahazi just wasn;t ready for it. Then again, I stock and advertise only once a month since i am a bit brunt out from crafting

66% base will get you just under 90% base with a maximum effectiveness slice.

Unless there was a recent stealth nerf, armor slices are capped at 45% for Master Smugglers. Weapons are capped at 35%.

FYI - Effectiveness slices are capped at 35% and encumbrance at 45%.

And I can confirm that (looks at sig).

As far as what's good to slice, I'd go with Energy or Stun. I can get the higher base% with Energy so the effectiveness slices can pump Kinetic over 80%, but with an encumbrance slice I still have those suits to sell as low encumb and great for NPC destroy missions. With Stun, you can't lose either way...

I do make 80% Kinetic because it sells well, but the slices don't matter at all on it... Encumb doesn't matter due to buffs, Effectiveness doesn't matter due to Kinetic being a special protection... Kinetic is one of the most looked at stats when buying armor, and since all armor should be sliced, I like to keep it out of the Special Protections.

I really dont see the point in producing this sort of armour. If you are going to go for a high base armour with high HAM you are obviously planning on aiming for a good effect slice to hit that 90%. For that it makes more sense to use either electric or stun layers experimented for base, that way you can take all base resists to 90%.

When it comes to creature grinding, 80% kinetic with around 60% base and low HAM is a much better option. Creature attacks are for the most part kinetic (some spit attacks arent) which means that all those other resists arent used much at all and I would rather keep my regen up to avoid wasting time with healing.

Firstly Thanks for the information...

A couple of thoughts on the comments in this thread however:

"Armour should always be sliced" - After the smuggler re-vamp we don't know how risky it will be to own sliced good, so it is probably worth planning how to make armour that will still be good without slicing.

"People don't care about HAM costs" - I suspect they will care after the combat balance, so again it is probably worth considering how you can still make great armour without making it too heavy.

Personally I like the look of that armour for PVE and will be trying to replicate it.

in all honesty, i sell 80kin/67base comp and a measly 20% slice will bring base up to 80%. but ironically my 80kin/80ene/66base suits are the fastest selling - i just cant keep them in stock.

for all the smiths that dont have the resources to get to 70% base like kines, try using a 13ene/3base and two 6kin/4base layers. for me when i did this i got 79% kin, but i managed to do it with a 13/3, 6/4 and a 7/3 - must have been off by only a few decimals.
