Thread: A Composite World
we need certification for armor. anyone can wear composite right now and almost anyone can offer it. Also composite range greatly in price (250k to 1.25 million) on interpid.
Composite should be the best armor, it a master level armor. Armorsmiths use their best resources to make. i see3 types of composite (non layered, layered high resist, high ham, layered lower resist lower ham)
Ubeseshould be used for PVE, however the condition is low so why no use layed composite if you don't care about price
Padded is not worth marking. too many vulerabitlies, high ham. Uses some of the same resources as composite. planet specific hide. don't know an armorsmith that makes padded with his best resources because no one will buy it for the price you have to charge. Also everyone wants a different color. you can have the best padded on the server but if its not the color they want, it sits on your vendor.
Tante, don't know too much about it
Chinti, use to be good for kinetic until ubess and layed composite came around.

I get tons of orders for Ubese, as well I should. Not everyone can afford buffs all the time, and many casual players (whom this game was originally marketed towards) only have 30min-1 hour to play at a time, hardly worth shelling out 10-20k for buffs. That is why the lower HAM, high special resist armor is so great. If there were an Ubese equivalent for energy, I could sit in the Geo cave for hours and have a great time!

idiot-proof guide to fixing armorsmith:
1. Make faction armor craftable to Master Armorsmiths (with bought schematic w/ FP from recruiters)(limited useschematics)
2. Nerf composite to a mid-level armor
3. Make all other types of craftable armor (tantel, bone, padded, mabari, chitin) have low base, and a high specialty...like ubese
4. Make factional armor have higher base than compositew/ no special, or a mid-level base and 80% specialty, but with lower encumberances
5. Fire the guy who designed the padded armor helmet
The problem now is that there is such a disparity in the usefulness of the armors. Nothing can compete with composite. If you make faction armor like composite, nothing will compete with faction armor. We need to have armor with definite pros/cons. The only con to composite is HAM costs, but with buffs and food and spice, who cares. The goal is to even the demand for all armor types, not just a few. WE DON'T NEED MORE TYPES OF ARMOR! we just need the ones we have balanced. The only armor that should be 80/65 is the really hard to get stuff. This will encourage the CGW, bring crafters into the CGW, and help round out playing in the game, and get choices on what to wear ar per armor, instead of just composite or ubese.

I'd say make faction armor craftable (we defiantly need some cool armor for the rebs aswell, as i dont feel theres any reason to buy the armor if it isnt special). Also, add different "composite" armors, make them like the same as composite, just other looks, that will deal with the variation-problem within armor. If we have like 5-10 other looks, it will look a lot more starwar-ish. Also maldorian armor, i wouldnt mind seeing it not-rare, if they add MORE armor to choose from, evryone wont JUST buy the maldorian armor. Not familiar about the maldorian armor history, anyone can tell me a little about it?
The main problem with just making different looks for the composite armor is kinda twofold. One is that it doesn't really do anything to the fact that composite is SOO good right now, any new armors(faction)are going to need to be better just to compete. Make more of the same, and you can't add a new type unless you raise the bar on this stuff. And besides, the advantage that good Comp gives to the user in PvP and such makes it so much more important than any other thing, it removes the skill factor involved, and makes it more a matter of the better armor wins.
Also, there are already 6 different versions. They are underused as it is, and by adding more composite options, that woudn't change. Besides, they offer the idea of having different advantages, resists, HAM costs, that several suits of Composite would not offer. But their usefulness predicates a composite Nerf. Otherwise, lots more great discussion going on here. I am thinking of proposing a poll on the ahazi boards, to see what the reaction to this would be among non-armorsmiths, since they would be more affected.
The only problem with this stems from.. well.. how many mature people do you think would actually look at this objectively and make comments based on the what is best for the game and everyone else overall as opposed to being selfish about it? Very few, I would imagine.. especially on bloodfin.

We have to make it obviously clear that we are not just "asking to nerf Composite". Wewant an armor revamp which would, in our opinion, likely require changes toComposite to make a nicer progression and add more variety.
Sorry folks, I do not think 'nerfing' any type of armor would be a good idea. The destabilising effect would be felt in the game for months / years as the old stuff commanded high prices forcing any new smiths to be completely unable to sell anything. Possibly make composite a little harder to make (named woolly anyone) this would make Composite the elite armor it should be.
I do agree that we could improve other armor types, this would give some more choice to pick the armor type best for the task, this would have much less on the economy as a whole as no pre-nerf market would exist.
Possibly give all armor types the ability to use at least one/two layers, this would give variation to what people go for and end the comp. only mentality that exists ATM.

Actually, that is exactly how it is now. The only thing other than composite that can be sold now is Ubese and the only reason why Ubese is selling now is that many people are still hologrinding. I'm not certain what you are debating since your last statement appears to be for the nerf. Afterall, if you think Composite should be "elite" armor and what we want to do would make it harder to make thus elevating its "elite" status, this should be what you want. Right now, Composite (especially insanely high resist Compo) is the most popular armor in the game, making it far from elite.
Please take the entire post into consideration. IF there is an armor that is the "man of steel" of all armors, it should be extremely hard to come by. RIS hard if not worse. What we all feel should be the most common armor in the game is factional armor. After all, this game is supposed to be based on a Galactic Civil War.
