No, I am not suggesting a nerf at all, I want the comp. resists to stay exactly where they are ATM, thus not causing a market for items that are anyway better than can still be crafted. I do think that comp could be harder to make, but this would not cause the 2 tear market as shown above. Comp. would slowly become more expensive for any set, forcing more people to use other armor types.

At the same time is other armor types were slightly improved this would only help the situation.

What you seem to want would cause chaos on 10 times the scale of the pre nerf FWG5 for example.

I've been lurking this thread and I'm not an AS but I'll offer these points (read the entire post to see my points please)

Wait until the combat revamp is done. Composite by itself is not the problem. It's composite and doc buffs. The HAM costs on advanced composite are so high Humans are about the only race that can wear a full suit of it unbuffed. When Isee an AS talking about "low HAM" suits of armor with a total mind penalty above 500 I chuckle. They just eliminated about 50% of the species in this game from wearing it unbuffed. Before I became a doc I had a simple rule. If I couldn't wear it unbuffed I didn't buy it. As a Twi'lek my max mind secondaries cap out at 500. That's not much when talking about advanced composite.

If a person wears composite armor without buffs then their secondariesare so low they are regulated to regular shots only unless they are on food/drink or spice. In that sense it's not unbalancing and it's not that overpowering. It has no vulnerabilities (well except for stun)but it's so heavy that you basically can't do anything with it apart from just wearing it. The armor in and of itself is balanced. It's very effective and has very high resists but it's VERY heavy. If you are not buffed and get hit by a rancor you'll still see a nice size chunk of HAM come off even if you are wearing 80% kinetic. Lord Nyax hits me for 2000 pts of damage. In 80% composite that's "only"200 points of damage but if you fire a special you'll kill yourself faster than Lord Nyax can. Also that's200 pts of damage per round and we all know that with high attack speeds200 pts of damage per tick can add up quickly. Also don't forget some high end NPC's use armor piercing weapons and attacks (as well as most players in PvP)

Doc buffs are slated to be addressed in the combat balance (I'm a master doc and even I must admit that with a high level buff and composite armor you are basically invulnerable so it's only a matter of time until it's addressed)

I would suggest waiting until the HAM pass is complete and doc buffs being addressed before going on.

As a former Bounty Hunter who soloed marks unbuffed, composite armor was very good but very heavy armor and I had to use strategy in taking down my marks because of the huge HAM penalties to my unbuffed secondaries.

how i see it is all armor should be like ubese (except comp)aka so you could make 70% heat layerd adv mabri and htey should change chitin into something else then ken like maybe electricity. also if they could make RIS have 70% stun layerd kina thing, it would be alot easer to make because it wont be some best armor in the game BS, but it would still have it uses.

I completely agree. It only makes sense, but i think they should have a few more effectiveness. Like 70% on one stat, 30% on a few others, and 0 on the rest, because one set of armor to counter one specific attack type isnt very handy since theres loads of dmg types.

Composite needs penalties in my opinion. Whats keeping people from getting comp instead of the other armors? HAM sure isnt doing a good job of scaring people away. Buffs defeat the porpose of encumberance, there for theres virtualy no penalty for wearing it.

Maybe not being able to burst while in comp, or minus 5 dodge , lose some accuracy, or more logicly lose terain negot. just something to slow you down or hinder your capabilities as a heavy suit should. Nothing over the top but a noticable and small disadvantage to wearing it. I remember long ago, devs said armor was completely optional and not needed to become succesfull in pvp or what have you. I Beleive I read some of them saying that now. Armor should be a choice, not "required" - With a good balance of pros and cons.

But thats just me, with that AS might not make much money though. Personaly Id love to see a change in the armor system, but i dont want any armorsmiths fo lose money or get poor from it, that wouldnt be at all fair.

My only concern about the changing of doctor buffs is that doctor buffs are often the only way you can solo effectively. I would hate to see this game pushed to the limits EverQuest was where you were forced to group or you couldn't do anything effectively. I would much rather see a composite armor nerf.

I'm not concerned about the market change if composite was nerfed either. Obviously, they could stealth nerf it like they did our droid armor. That would upset a lot of people, of course. There are already those with hundreds of millions of credits and those would be the ones utilizing the best composite. Hell, they already are. However, as mentioned, with the combat adjustments and when they make HAM affect your combat skills, people will not want the old stuff at all.

At the same time, I really don't want to see the HAM/Encumberance nerf to be taken as far as it looks like it will and I am concerned about that, which is another good reason for an armor adjustment.

And in my other, obviously and hideously flawed post, someone actually accused me of never having the best resources to make advnaced padded armor. Well, I would like to suggest they they have never used it. Padded armor is horrible all around. It's funny that no one even agreed with a change to the Padded helm look.

Go figure..

main problem is theres still known ways to exploit large sums of credits, which is why people can afford the 20k buffs, to be able towear their 500k fullsuit, and spend 30k to have it sliced. Some of these people are like a week or 2 old, they don't even know HOW their composite is better than bone, they do a search and find the info on how to exploit creds the day they start playing. I've come across several newb exploiters lately while slicing, a disturbing trend.

This is another good point, however I feel that these are the people who can afford to spend 100 cpu on their resources in order to buy them up so they can try to corner the market on a server while selling their armor for less than cost so in the end, they make their money being the only ones left. But that is just a bitter assessment of a very difficult situation.

I do not agree, however, that this is the only way people are accomplishing this feat. While a small group of armorsmiths (and doctors, etc) are paying 100 cpu or more for hides and meat, it is relatively easy to make a ton of money hunting these resources. I am not saying that people are not exploiting credits. I'm saying that I doubt that is true in most cases since this insane composite armor is everywhere. I'm honestly not sure why I am still a crafter when it is much easier to make more money hunting and selling resources.

Our guild also has a slicer so slicing is free. Especially since I can make a ton of AUKs for virtually nothing. While I still think buffs should cost 6-8k like they did forever, I've never had to pay more than 10k for them nor have I ever had to go without for not having money for the above reasons.

I'm not sure that credits really matter here. If money were harder to come by then armor itself would just get cheaper, as the credits used to buy it would be worth more. Inflation just means that the money itself is worth a lot less than it would be otherwise.

Unless income was cut to the point where running a harvester had a prohibitive cost (something I doubt we'd see), then there will still be the same numbers of resources sitting around and the same numbers of items being made -- just for cheaper prices.

Damn, that's a good point. So regulating it monitarily would have to touch into a little bit of everything.. including harvesting. Even then, I don't know that it would make that big of a deal.. there is already soooo much money out there.. legit or no.

Couple things I'd like to comment on.

First, I'd love for factional armor to be able to be crafted, maybe allowing it only to take a certain layer type(s). It would be nice to see. Second, hopefully Stormtrooper armor will be able to be worn while Covert, without using the "bug," that will give at least make sense, not like an Imperial has to go hiding amongst his fellow people.

Ubese kicked in after the Advanced fixed, that promptly shut Chitin down, chitin still has on the average a higher base than Ubese, so if we could get a layer, we would see it being used sometimes, if not more often.

I like the idea of padded having stun as a base, but then I'd also want heat and acid not vulns(at least 1), leaving restraint, elec as vulns, and one of the following two(maybe) heat or acid. Making it maybe a viable "light composite pvp" armor. As Lok hide is not good, I'd opt to change this to Bristley and Scaley only. Bristely padding with scaley as protection in the suit. Makes sense to me, also frees up some of that wooly people must keep.

Composite, actually other than I'd like to see a "special wooly" I can't think of a viable solution without making it junk. The special hide would limit its effectiveness and sometimes it would be just as good, depending on how much it plays into it.

Tantel: No avian bone. Full set. Zero vuln. No advanced, but allow two layers of armor, that would allow it a decent protection of choice and being light still compared to other armors.

Chitin: Main hide scaley and leather, no wooly, keep the bone requirement as it is. Allow one non-kinetic layer into it. Increase the durability some.

Mabari: Allow one layer of heat to be added if chosing to, so you can either add some more base or more heat, either way heat is being increased.

Bone: add a low kinetic in the special protection. Like around 5-10% and not scale up fast if at all. This will allow new players to benefit off it some, even though it'll be ripped apart, they will at least see the benefit of armor.

PSG: DURABILITY, DURABILITY, DURABILITY. I know its caps, but that is a problem. The amount of time in a factory(roughly 9minutes for a mk3) to produce is way to low of a durability. make them the second layer, under the armor, taking the second wave of damage. Give the 1 about 4k dur 2 about 6k and 3 about 8k. I know its high, but then I'd be able to sell them for a decent time vs cost vs loss profit. We would actually make a second market(I know some are, but a to my knowledge, none are to successful) of PSG sales.

Limited schematics: This is one of the dumbest Ideas ever implemented into the game, simple if I make something once, I think I'd have enough common sense to copy the data, not like droids can't do that.

Loot layers etc, get rid of serial numbers on parts, just make it require the same stat wise, along with made layers, if exact stats it can be used.

It comes down to wearing what is best. Certifications would increase the use of other armor types, but would be fought by the community tooth and nail. I have often suggested multiple styles of each armor type, much as there are styles of houses. Modifying the armor art slightly shouldn't be a major undertaking and would allow a bit more customization...

But truthfully, the WAY armor is done is flawed and should be radically changed. As it stands now, the armor itself dictates the stats and protective ability. Bone Armor is low and Composite is high (until the RIS quest is made for CRAFTERS and not COMBATANTS, it does not exist for me).

I am having problems with how to say this, but I'll try. Maybe someone else can say it better......

Make the Style of Armor (Bone, Mabari, Chitin) nothing more than how it looks. Style could be its own tree (tied in with colorization and alternate styles) and separate from the protection....

The actual protections would be dictated much as the layers are currently, i.e. as you go up in skill you get added protections.

It would all boil down to a Master Armorsmiths ability to make a suit of bone armor that protects no differently than a suit of composite. The style wouldn't dictate the protections, the armorsmith his or herself would. This would allow an almost infinite variablity within the armors, allowing 'smiths to skip on protection types to reduce HAM or allowing custom orders from fighters looking for specific protections for the job.....

It is a most radical idea, but one I believe has merit. It isn't unreasonable to think that someone might want a kinetic only armor, such as a Ranger who wouldn't need to worry about energy weapons at all. And a PvP'er would be able to concentrate protection on the most popular weapon damage types. There will still be some that want maximum protection from all types of damage, too.

Make any sense?

Regardless of how you get the components, it is still no where near as good as Composite can get. Trust me, I know.
