Thread: CU armor crafting process info released
- My armorsmith will have to pickup more combat boxes. Or
- I'll have to purchase the schematics via trade forums for millions upon millions of credits. Or
- This armor will be made on a "by order" basis, with the customer supplying the schematic.
I do in theory really like the new armor crafting process and end product. I think that's going to be a blast to play with!

1. Cores can have from 1 to 3 segments, depending on the type. Sounds good, but do you have to use 3 -IDENTICAL- segments for an advanced core or can you use 3 -DIFFERENT- segments for an advanced core? The first scenario will make mass production more problematic and thus help the "little" guy since the "big" guy can't as easily turn out a huge number of suits. The second scenario will allow you to really mix various types of protection on advanced core armor.
2. How many cores per piece of armor? Are cores basically going to replace segments as it is now so that you'll need 4 or so cores for a chest piece, 3 for pants and helmet and 2 for each arm piece? I would tend to assume that since otherwise you'll end up with chest pieces taking almost the same amount of resources as, say, bracers... which wouldn't make much sense... but I'd love to see more concrete info on that.
3. Basic, standard and advanced cores. Sounds great in theory, but is this going to end up like the situation we have today with basic segments never being used since they serve no purpose? Are we going to see basic, standard and advanced armor certifications so that it would make sense to make basic armor for people starting out on their combat professions?
4. What appearance items are we talking about? Are those going to be whole new components that determine what your final armor is going to look like (bone, mabari, composite etc.)? If so, who is going to make those components (expect a HUGE outcry from both tailors and armorsmiths if those are to be made by tailors) and what do they involve? Is this where the limited use factional armor schematics enter the picture?
I'm sure I could come up with more, but those are the things that popped into my mind right away.

Now Do i have to be rebel to craft rebel or to just get the schems, and visa versa. Or can i go imperial get the schems the rebel to get the schems and then go back to neutral and craft them so i can have a variety on the vendors
"Faction armor schematics are "limited use schematics" and will come from the appropriate recruiters, so no certifications in the Armorsmith profession are needed."
Sounds to me like you must be of the appropriate faction to get the schematic. Which should mean that after the schematic is gotten, anyone factionedcan craft it.
However:
"Only factionally aligned Armor smiths will be able to craft customized factional armor "
This sounds like you may be limited to crafting your current faction's armor.
So, to answer your question...I have no clue. The information is not very clear.

Also some things to notice, Light Sabers are going to be energy now, so I don't think jedi are going to be very happy about that.

I hope that Jedi don't start going nuts too quick. I think everyone has their questions with the CU and what it will do to them.
Now, a few things I noticed. First, PSGs will NOT work against lightsabers. The devs seemed to put so much emphasis on "ranged energy attacks" in their PSG description that it leaves little doubt of this.
And I am going to assume lightsabers will be somehow compensated. It could be that one elemental type is lightsaber and just hasn't been developed yet.
Or one theory I came up with while talking to a friend.
If lightsabers just have a hugely high ammount of damage so that if a person isn't armored, they are cut down in two strokes (seems pretty Star Wars-like to me) and if they do, then maybe it takes a little more (not quite as Star Wars-like but understandable).
Finally in my comments on this subject, I'd like to reiterate my saying to Jedi whiners in general. "Jedi are not gods"
Basic Damage Types
There will be changes to the types of damage a piece of armor defends against and how it can be modified:
- All weapons will do a base damage of type "Kinetic" or "Energy".
- Lightsaber damage is now classified as "Energy" damage.
- Several weapons will do additional "elemental" damage: "Heat"/"Cold" and"Acid"/"Electrical".Each of these elemental pairs are opposites of each other, meaning protection from one reduces protection for the other.
- Particle effects on hit locations and muzzle flash, and the color of the bolt will be determined by the damage type of the weapon.
- The color for energy weapons will be red; the color for kinetic weapons will be blue.
First, only Synthetic Cloth and Reinforced Fiber Panels are needed?
Second, no stun, blast, or LS damage (I think everyone noticed that)
Third, how will resources change? I know someone already asked this, but obviously how resource stats effect the overall suit is gonna change since Encumbrance is being removed.
It seems to me that people will be wanting like 6 different suits once this thing goes live, which could be good for us. . .
The biggest bad thing I see right now is I think people are going to slow armor purchases until after the Combat Upgrade, with the decline increasing as May approaches. Why spend 300K on a high stun suit (Eclipse Galaxy) when stun isn't even going to be around? If I'm a mid-level player thinking of buying a suit, but don't know if I'll be able to use the suit in 6 weeks, should I even bother?

The synth cloth and reinforced panels are just like now, we use them to make armor, tailors provide them for us its just where it is added to the armor craftin process has changes.
Stun and blast are indeed gone. All weapons will do energy or kinetic, some will also include 'enviormental' damage. Heat, cold, acid, electrical are those enviormental damage types. Lightsaber being energy now will be shocking to many, but we shall see how it playes out.
People could want 6 or more suits in this system. But overall prices may go down now that all armor is relative.
