Thread: State of the Armorsmith Profession

I am not an armorsmith, so I suppose my opinion doesn't really count all that much. However, I think I'll express it anyway. I think the biggest problem is that EVERYONE is wearing Composite Armor. And the second problem is that EVERYONE ELSE is wearing Ubese Armor. There is no variety in the galaxy. Now, the first outcry to this is, "Make new Armor please!!!" But we all know that won't happen, certainly not anytime soon. Granted, wookies are getting armor, but they also had to wait a year to get it.

So, why not just make it so that all the armor types currently in game can be made equal? I mean, I know bone armor doesn't look nor seem like it should be as tough as composite armor, and it shouldn't, but why not make it 1) better, and 2) maybe a lot more resistant to something, but something different from what composite or ubese is resistant to. Seems to me that this would have two effects. First, more people would want to wear the lower level armors, because essentially, they wouldn't be so "low-level" anymore. Secondly, if you did the experimentation process correctly, you could make it so that low-level armorsmiths could make this great Bone Armor and Mirabi Armor, etc. and actually make a dime off their work.

I dunno, just my thought on the issue. Had a few people tell me the same thing as well, and I hope I'm not repeating something that's been said a million times over.

Perhaps a possible solution is to make RIS, Vul to Acid and make it more obtainable there by having a alternative to Composite instead of it being a uprgrade to Ubese that is nearly unatainable...

Another possible solution that would work is too make GDK drops all looted resources drop more regularly to make the armor more viable... as a alternative to Composite. Because in the end that's what we want variety, more of it. I think to acheive that we need to get the devs to make it viable.

what i have posted before on armor types, is have it so only (as examples)

a) humans = wear all armor types

b) wookies = wear all " natural" (chitin, bone, ect) types

c) soforth and so on,

Just break up the current armor out there , and designate it to the races.

just rember that humans should get the best armor fore they are supose to be the dominate race in the game.

Good post Jaato!

Another thing I would like to see is that armorsmiths can craft factional armor and have a bit of revamping on them so they protect more, like around 50-65% maximum base (or nerf the composite armor),so they can compete with other armors as well and not used as a show off as now (it is a greater feel to the game if every one turned up in factional armor on a PvP event). Must be kind of rather easy for them to insert it to the game -> in other words you must be a faction member to craft it andget the schematic for it with FPs (and no special loot tocraft the faction armor).

Well that was the thing I wanted to add.

Hmm... wonder if this one was posted in the wrong thread... Well I'll add it to top 5 too.

My own personal rant....

WHAT MAKES YOU THINK LOW LEVEL ARMOR IS UNWANTED AND WONT SELL????????

The only masters you hear saying that are the ones who aren't stocking it! I have literally sold at least 3 times moremaberi suits than I have ubese ( and I was most known for my ubese on Intrepid). I charged 40 cpu for my maberi, and couldn't keep it stocked ( same pricing guide as my ubese). Even master level players had bought it, for disposable armor, and really low ham. I sold a whole lot of PvE suits ( ubese/maberi mix) for 45k. ( 77% kinetic chest, legs, boots, maberi helm and gloves).

I'm sick and tired of hearing about how people don't want this, and that won't sell. Sure, composite has the highest profit margin, but it isn't the only thing that will sell. It may seem like sacrelige to you to use comp resources on maberi, but that doesn't make it worthless. I had the same profit margin on all my armors, so always used my best resources.

Try it before knocking it! I've stocked everything but chitin on my vendor at one time or another. Guess what's sitting on it right now? Ubese shirts, and 2 tantel chests. EVERYTHING else is sold.

1. Your quoted price of 40cpu anda 45k Ubese/Mabari mixed suit calulates out on unlayered Ubese (but you can't get unlayered up to 77%.) Your actual price was about 13k lower than 40cpu, or about 30cpu.

2.Check around, and you will see that most armorsmiths can fetchup to80cpu (200k forlayered-Ubese at 2500resources)forComposite and Ubese. So,of course youCOULD sellall your stuff for 40cpu, and sell out of it all....It is, after all, Master Armorsmith stuff. But try selling your Mabari suit for 67k (80cpu) instead of 34k (40cpu), and seeif they sell at 3x faster than Ubese.

In the beginning of the message, it is clearly stated that 'Armorsmith is enjoying quite alot of prosperity'. However, especially, for the non-masters, there isn't much profit to be made in lower level armor. That is all.

But that is exactly my point. I sold my way up to master. I made 14 million credits, which I promptly spent on the old resources I hadn't harvested. I have never had a suit of armor that didn't sell, not even at 2 xp points.

This is honestly the best and most realistic state of the profession post I've seen to date.

a wishlist item I still would like to see is armorsmiths being able to craft factional armor. I guess that could just be an extension of the questable schematic item, but something really needs to be done to greatly improve the access of faction armor in the game to enhance the starwars feel of the setting and giving this to armorsmiths will also keep armorsmiths in business whereas lowering the faction point cost of perkpurchasing the armor will just end up hurting armorsmiths

One Item I would add to the wish list, I would like to see SWG give a master in a profession more experimentation points for keeping a profession. Those of us who mastered in Armorsmith 9 month ago should be able to make better stuff then someone who mastered last week,

I also play a rodian armorsmith named Neer Myss and I think I'll throw my 2 cents in if it is okay.

Things we need as armorsmiths:

1. More selectable art for Composite, Ubese, and Paddedarmors so as to create different styles. The art could be selectable on a dropdown menu like with certain weapon components weaponsmiths get to make. Just because it is Padded or Composite doesn't mean it has to all look the same. Ubese especially is made to fit it's specific wearer, though that wearer is more commonly Ubese =)

2. I realize the Bone, Tantel, and Mabari are weaker armors but they all should have more layers available to them. I think these armors have a certain style actually and prefer their look over composite armor, I just wish they could have some value other than looking good. Bone could have more selectable art too.

3. New armor types: Blast Vest, Chestplates, Helmets: The bubble like helmets from Episode IV worn by everybody (tons of helmets are needed for variation)

4. Race Armor. Every Race has it's own environment that it evolved in. That said they should all have their own armor types for their particular race. Example: Twi'liks come from a world that is so harsh that one side of the planet will freeze you and the other fry you, Twi'lik armor should protect against such things.

5. Quest armors: Quest armors are cool, but can we please not have to kill every dangerous creature in the galaxy, PLEASE =)
