So it's an artwork problem eh? Funny. Doesn't seem to stop them from adding roughly a hundred new items of clothing with JTL. At least that's the rumor. I'm not posting fact here but if you go over to the tailor forum you will see it's filled with threads where tailors are telling each other off for revealing JTL info.
I don't see why they can't add some more cool looking armor. Or even just variants of the allready existing pieces. Like different types of composite helmets and such.
My guess is they saved all the content that they should have been adding for tailors over the past year and a half, and instead are making them pay for it via the expansion.go go SOE powah!
I kinda wish the enhancer slot had things we could craft and add to it. Like spikes. Craft armor spike components that would go in the enhancer slot on the segments, and then the armor when crafted would have spikes scattered all over it.
Or a stealth enhancer, that turns the armor opaque when it's completed. So that someone wearing armor with stealth enhancers added to the segments would have partially see through armor (giving em a kinda ghost effect).
There's a billion cool things they could add that would make armor massively customizable.

Couldn't agree more. I have a few more ideas too. That lil antannae thing on the side of the composite helmet is pretty cool and one could switch it out so that your spatial range is increased as far as hearing goes. Nice way to evesdrop on a mark without him seeing you too close.
Changable visors for the helmets. For instance, nightvision. Easy to implement. Just have everything you see be very bright and green. Thermal vision. All living organisms appear in green, yellow and red colours. All non living organisms are different shades of blue.
I like your idea of spikes, I would love to see that and perhaps some cool shoulderpads as well. The ghost effect for armor would be awesome too, especially if it would allow you to flutter off the radar if you stand still for a while. I can't imagina a BH who wouldn't want one.
There are also built in weaponry and such that could be awesome. Like having a pair of claws built into the forarm or a miniature flamethrower like boba had or a weblauncher. Maybe even have the armor include a small selfdestruct device that could be activated by the wearer if his health is dangerously low, thereby taking hiself out along with his opponent if he's close enough.
The possibilities are limitless.

Actually an awesome idea. Claws like the Predator perhaps? Craftable by weaponsmiths, go into a slot enhancement on a bracer. When not equiped its folded in, equiped makes it extend out.
Maybe make the flamethrower along the same grounds as a rocket launcher as far as damage, uses, and difficulty of crafting. It would be more of a last ditch weapon.

I reckon that the speed changes you are suggesting are a good idea, buffs + high composite armour take the mickey, I have pistols 4 (apprentice gunfighter) and I managed to solo an Enraged Rancor with a DL44 I was maybe 300 hitpoints down if that.
Anyway, I also like the other suggestions about customising the look of the armour, even if they have no actuall benifit other than to make the armour more individual. In another thread, not sure which one, someone mentioned planet specific style armour, that would also be quite nice, but I assume this is a bit too much time for SOE to devote to paying customers.

If they have time to add 100 pieces of new clothing to JTL then they have time to do something serious for armorsmiths.
We just have to yell louder!

People use different weapons because some have strengths over others. It also helps that the components to make weapons aren't impossible to get. Armorsmiths have 2 special schematics. The Imp PSG, which requires 8 factory-made subcomponents (pain in the ass), and RIS armor, which requires 4-5 loot drops, and then NS shards and layers if you want it to be any good.
You don't see a lot of NSEL's, because their stats suck and the loot components are hard to get, just like RIS.
You do see Imp PSG's despite the fact that they're a pain to make, because they have good stats and don't require crazy loot drops. Armorsmiths need more specialized armor schematics, preferably useful ones. WS's got DXR6b rifles, and they're pretty easy to make, why not get armorsmiths some neat stun-special protection armor? Or Lightsaber resistant layers? We'd love to try out new things, but we've been severely lacking in the cool-new-stuff category.

No need to get brutal. I didnt start this post to CREATE new armor, simply to make the unused armor useable again. Like I said, do something to make wearing padded, or chitin worth wearing. That way no art is involved, just stats.

Stats are only half the problem, the resources needed are a big part of it. I can make ok padded with decent resources, but the resources are such a pain to get.

It's not like chittin is worthless, alot of newbies wear them effectively. Only problem is you don't stay a newb that long. What we need are more high end amrors, not a way to force the high end players to wear low end armor. It's not just a question of effectiveness for a lot of players. Alot of players wear composite because it is the only really cool looking non-faction armor in the game.
I don't know how many times a newb as come to me saying wow awesome armor, what's it called and where can I get some.
Would making chittin and padded more effective and composite less effective make the armorsmiths happy? I'm sure it would, but the players in composite will be extremely unhappy about it. The customer wants more variety and more cool looking armor. We should be more motivated to provide the client with what THEY want and not what WE want to sell them. The only way to really do that is to get more armor or a way to customize the current ones.
I know you will not agree with me and flame this but this is my honest oppinion.

I don't like making the other armors anyway, I'm running out of space with comp resources as it is. I agree with your statement about noob armors, why don't the DEVs try a radical approach and make the other armors have a point, instead of nerfing comp. The nerf bat is too easy, it never actually solves the problem, it simply elevates something to "the new comp."
