Well yeah everything is going to change with the combat revamp, and I look forward to seeing what they have planned. But the basics are that more armors will be viable, and I think there will be some schematic alteration as well.
Composite doesnt necessarily ruin the game, andI do still wear Ubese for my PVE grinding (and would wear chitin if anyone besides me makes it on my server, and i dont make armor any more...), its the armor system itself. The fact there are so many damage types for pvp, your odds of picking the right armor besides composite to stop what you are being shot with, is bad. Padded would be great if you knew you were going to a place where only blast would be used, for example. Add in the condition that ramps up with resists, for the most part,so you have the high end armor that has high resists (less condition lost per absorb) and high condition (lasts a long time), and the low end with low resists and low condition (dies fast..) and its pretty easy to see why going high end (even with the added cost, higher encumb, and resists you dont need) is popular.
One idea, and I'd say a fairly obvious one would be:
Attack speed decrease with each armor piece/type of armor. I.E. Full composite could give you an additional 1.0x delay mod for regular attack and specials. For some this wouldnt be horrible with +speed mods you could still cap, but for others it may slow them down... Or if you wanted it even across the board, a 1.0x or .5x real-time speed delay. This would make composite more true to its description of a "heavy" armor.
I can think of a few others like changes to the resist table for some armors and perhaps a limit to the types of layers that can be used in each armor, but also a bonus to some, but... This assumes the damage/resist table/systemwill stay the same and somehow i doubt it...
Bottom line is, wait and see what the combat revamp brings.

Some people forget about one of the rule of the threes. Style over substance. I couldn't care less about the effectiveness of the armor, the simple fact that Composite is the coolest looking armor in the game is the only reason I wear it. They can nerf it to high hell for all I care I'd still wear it. If they add more cool looking armor then I'd of course considder switching but untill then my comp will just have to do.
I would like to see customisable armor where you can have some stuff added to it to make it more unique. That would fix everyone looking the same.

I still think padded (with the exception of the helmet) is the coolest lookin armor. I'd wear it in combat if it wasnt terrible, in factI wear the arms/boots as part of my standard outfit.
But comp does look pretty dang cool too.

Padded is just so irritating to make. The game has enough irritation and stupid crap already, I don't want to deal with getting the resources needed for padded. If it wasen't so hard to make people might actually craft it.
P.S.
How does one get "blue Glowie" forum ranking?

Yeah I had to track my own rescources down for my guild AS to make it and the Blue Glowie is the forum rank given to an ex-correspondant.

I actually bought a few suits from another AS on bria with 70%+ kinetic for personal use. looks good too when mixed with a composite helmet. mine is black for color 1 and fire engine red for color 2. oh and replace the belt with an aakuan belt. much more useful.

Ok, forget the thing about making armor harder to craft, Im not an AS, so I have no clue. I apologize for offending the already troubled armorsmith about how hard armor is to craft. All Im saying is, make other armor more viable by having bonuses and penalties. THat way, there wont be the same old thing over and over. also
MAKE FACTION ARMOR CRAFTABLE!!!!!!!!

As for the comment Buffs ruin gameplay and armor. YOU ARE RIGHT. Ill be the first to agree that with buffs encumbrance is totally negated thus defeating the purpose of encumbrance.

I think that yes everyone running around in composite is tiresome in seeing. But as a fresh AS I agree this is already one of the most complicated crafting Profs. Not too mention I still see ppl using ubese and mixed and matched combos for armor more and more now because ppl want to save the comp for PvP.
Now with Faction Armor I think it should be craftable by faction players too.

As far as good looking armor goes, I love mixing my composite with chitin. I have a suit which consists of a composite helmet, breastplate and boots, the rest is chittin. The chittin is darkbrown in colour and the composite is dark grey. It looks fantastic. I just love the intimidating look of the chittin shoulderpads. I wear this armor all the time too, regardless of how effective it is.

Do you see people running around with elite combat master badges wielding CDEF weapons? Of course not, because the CDEFs suck. Almost all of the available armors arn't useful, and some just plain suck. If the other armors were useful then people might use them.

Wookiee armor doesn't count
, who wants to make stupid wookiee armor and it's insane organics requirements
.
What really boggles me, is why we can't make bounty hunter armor. According to the devs (when making excuses to the tailors) the biggest hurdle to adding new wearable content is doing the artwork. Each wearble model has to be modified specifically for all the different races and body types. Supposedly it takes a collossal amount of art programming.
So they obviously did all that hard work with bounty hunter armor, it fits people. So why wasn't it added as a new craftable armor ffs??!?!?!? It's nothing uber, it's not even as good as composite. But daym, they could have added it with the special protection in energy and made it a good humanoid fighting armor. Or any number of things making it a good niche armor.
But nope, there's a whole new armor type added to the game there that we have no part in. 3 Boo's for the devs!

So it's an artwork problem eh? Funny. Doesn't seem to stop them from adding roughly a hundred new items of clothing with JTL. At least that's the rumor. I'm not posting fact here but if you go over to the tailor forum you will see it's filled with threads where tailors are telling each other off for revealing JTL info.
I don't see why they can't add some more cool looking armor. Or even just variants of the allready existing pieces. Like different types of composite helmets and such.
