Thread: What will become of existing Comp armor when the CU hits?

So much info....
Worst part in my book is it seems like every armorsmith is now forced to choose a faction.
I kinda liked being neutral and not having to worry about being scanned and eventually flagged for the stormies to kill me and thus decaying what I was carrying.
I tried this once while I was rebel, and since I had a combat alt I just dropped faction alltogether.
Now it looks like I cannot craft factioned armor unless I rejoin either side and again this limits me to only crafting either imp or reb faction armor ?
What happened to the artistic freedom ?
Of course a lot of changes can happen before this hits live and I will give it a chance, but this might just be the kind of change that forces me to quit AS and maybe even the crafting toon.
The crafting system itself sounds interesting though but this "forced faction" is not my cup of tea.

So you don't get to make faction armor. If you don't want to choose a side, then you shouldn't get too. Make sense to me. I've been Imperial aligned since I joined and look forward to making armor for them. I'm not complaining because I don't get to make rebel armor. It's just the way it is and makes plenty of sense to me.

Regardless of how the armor converts to the new system, with so few professions able to wear comp, there will likely be too much of it hanging around to ever need any made again.
So very true. A whole 3 professions get to wear comp now....

I just hope armorsmiths can craft factional armor or else we're getting shafted. We might as well give up armorsmith if the best armor in game is obtained thru FP and recruiter only.
as i heard it its made with schems, we make the armor, they bring the schems (or we find the schems and sell the armor)
Don't really want to jump to any conclusions here, but from this wording does this mean that smugglers will not be able to buy them with their Faction discounts, unless they are smuggler/armorsmith?

Yep, that's what it sounds like. Sucks that I dropped smuggler....

Exactly how is an armorsmith supposed to buy schematics with FPs if they are not a fighter? Does that mean an armorsmith HAS to be a fighter in order to get faction points?
Donated FP from people who you sell armor to... selling armor for FP... buying FP from smugglers... or using that combat alt you have that ou've always used to get looted components or RIS parts with.
I don't see it as a huge deal either way it goes, and I thought it was clear that FP bought schems were on their way for a while now. Just looking for clarification on the point that that non-Master ASs wont see an option to buy thse schems at all.

Ever heard of space? The place to get faction without spending a single SP on a ground combat profession. A tier 5 ship gives you between 40 to 60 FPs, a gunboat 192. The only drawback is that you need to be overt to get faction in space, but in Deep Space you don't get decay during pvp.

The Buyer must Bio-Link the armor to their bodies by spending faction points from a menu that pops up the first time they try and equip the piece. Bio-Linked armor can be traded by only equipped by the person it is linked too.
Okay, now I have a question/potential problem here.
Debate all you want , but the real answer is you are seriously kicking in the teeth of crafter/fighter build. You would seem to need to be almost all fighter in the new madness to get faction points. So.... are you insisting then that the smiths will have to go BUY their faction points and then BUY the schematic? Wouldn't it make a tad more sense to simply allow EVERYONE to buy the armor schems?
Fine as long as you acknowledge that this forcespeople to PvP when they might not want to, seems a very silly thing to do when the Devs have bent over backwards to avoid that situation on the ground. Also deep space really needs you to be either a very good pilot or in a group, otherwise you'll be dead more often than not with little to show for it, especially if you want to go after gunboats. It's not going to be an option to make many crafters happy.
Gift.

I can handle trying to balance combat professions, I can take re-rolling my combat skills, I can take the cool-down crap, I'll stick with SWG with the new armor and weapon systems, but if every single one of my Armor resources become UTTERLY useless, and this bio-link crap hits live, it's gonna spoil every ounce of the CU, and I'll most likely quit.
I seriously doubt our resources will become crap. I do know this though, 90% of AS collected for comp and that is the bulk of their resources, now only 3 professions can use it..... hope you stocked up on everything else
I'm a little disappointed to see that our guild won't be able to buy the schematics for our armorsmith since he has no combat skills whatsoever. He may have a hard time earning faction points. (Unless there will be some sort of "mission" where he has to make some kind of armor for troops in exchange for a Faction Point reward)
