Thread: Armor Repair

First off, repair tools are borked. They are a black box, in that you need one to repair armor, but the "functionality" rating, the components used, etc don't seem to make any difference on the repair. (People say otherwise, but empirical proof is non-existant)

That said, the general guidelines are as follows:

Repair the item before the condition falls below 50%: Rumor says it improves the likely hood of a good repair.

An object that falls to condition 0/xxx is gone: Sorry, your armor is shot, buy a new set. Once you hit zero, no repair tool anywhere is going to bring it back.

No matter how good your repair, what skills you posess, the time day, current sunspot activity, or how hard you rub your lucky rabbits foot, there is always a chance of critical failure on a repair, that will totally destroy the damaged object. Yep, that chestplate that you paid big bucks for may go poof when you try to repair it, regardless of anything you do.

Even a successful repair will reduce the total condition of the armor: The repair process reduces the lifespan of the armor, that is to keep the economy functioning.

Hope that helps answer your question. I also hope these issues get cleared up in later patches. (I once had dreams of making my name in the galaxy selling quality repair tools...)

I had the same thing happen to me I had no clue what to charge...

I figured that if it is one of my customers then I would not charge them anything for repair.. that seems like good customer service to me.

For armor that I didn't make maybe 1000 credits per piece?? That is just an estimate but I would like to see what others would charge also that is not a definate price.

1K seems about right to me. Figure a slice goes for about the same thing and you are saving them several K per piece on higher armors if it works. Just dont charge them if it disintegrates and offer them a replacement at a 10% discount hehe

Sounds like a good idea. Of course I wouldn't charge them if i break it but the 10% discout idea sounds good too. Thanks.

Ok I have been thinking about this also as a service offering. On Bria found this peep selling the micro sensor kits which is a componet of the armor kit (700c each suite (17,500 crate)). Since I haven't even made one yet, what do these go for on your servers?

As a Master Armorsmith I tried to repair a set of Composite that was at about 50%. I was using 98% repair tools and wound up failing and destroying 2 of the pieces. I figured this was because it was already at 50%. Next I made a set of Armor to sell and was wearing it when I got attacked. It only took a tiny bit of damage but I figured I would repair it to full before i sold it. Again i failed and destroyed 2 pieces.

I cant imagine at Master Armorsmith Failing with High Quality tools to repair a slightly damaged set of Armor.

That comes out to almost a 25% Fail rate.

I recently found some armor repair skill tapes and wacked it in my clothes, and going to the skill box, it says 0 +5 (5 is the total of the 2 tapes) or something to that effect.. meaning A master armorsmith has 0 armor repair in the first place I assume? So in reality, Jo-bloggs a Bio Engineer has about as much chance of succeeding with these kits as a Master Armorsmith. Sound wrong to anyone else?

I had several failures rapairing armor as a master as well, but I was able to fix several weapons and got the "you repaired the weapon with only slight blemishes" message. I think armorsmiths get no bonus to rapair, which sucks. Masters should be able to repair armor, not fail most of the time.

Try standing next to a high quality armor crafting station as if you were crafting.

I never repair anything without a crafting station nearby. With technique 3 and 98 qual tools I very often get "only minor blemishes" results.

i wouldn't doubt that repair skills will come with the patch coming up... since they said masters are suppoed to be better. I would think there has to be an actually modifer to make it work better... which isnt live... but this a guess and i really know nothing.

I am surprised that the Armosmiths of the galaxies are not SCREAMING about my next words...

For some reason, Armorsmiths have no better chance at reapairing a piece of armor than the average joe. If i have a 99% repair tool .. i still have the same chance of failing as a pistoleer with a 99% repair tool. This does not make sense. Seems to me that what Sony is saying is that a cobbler is no more adept in repairing a shoe, than a bum liveing in a box. Stack this with the new DECAY feature and what you have in a heavy decline in the Armor trade. If you are going to make armor rot off a players body .. atleast give an armorsmith the correct skill mods to fix the armor. We get skill mods for Assembly, Customization, and one other that escapes me ,( however it is NOT reapair), as we go up the techical tree of the proffesion. Further more .. the decay rate is way out of poportion .. when you lose 5% of 100% you now have 95% but when you lose 5% of 80% you get 75% instead of 76%.. stacked with normal decay by being shot at Armor rots off yer back real fast .. even if you insure it .. it will rot .. Sony... give us skill mods to repair armor .. let us make a liveing again.. Terc McGurk, Master Armosmith, Tarquinas

Actually a 99% repair tool means that you fail 99% of the time. I have yet to repair armor successfully, my repair kits have been 96% also.
