And in all fairness you should be the one to spill the beans about it.

It's not as easy as you would think to rebalance armor, a lot of things have to be considered, such as old armor, new armor, who wears armor, who needs really good protection, who doesn't, buffs, everything. We've always had a long back and forth between docs and armorsmith's each blaming each other for how easy it is for a player to become invincable. 90% Base comp is blamed by the docs, and we go back at them saying people would never be able to wear 90% comp unless they had buffs.

A LOT of changes will happen with the CU, and a lot of things that you think about the game will change too. Armor will still be a vital part of the game, but there are going to be a TON of changes to armor. I can't tell you what they are, I wish I could give you more then just a teaser, but that NDA is pretty damn tight. As soon as the NDA is lifted I will be the first person (if some other speedy person doesn't beat me to it) to let you all know all the new changes to Armor there will be. But you have to give us time and be patient, these things do not come quickly.

Is there any hope with regards to getting a granule or a nugget or tidbit of info here or there from the devs? I wouldn't want to put a player in a position to violate the NDA, but it would be nice to get some posts from TH or someone, roughly giving guidelines. I saw the initial post TH made, and it just left me wanting more....

Oh, and if you need help with regards to the New AS guide, I would love to help, and have experience with a variety of segments and enhancers, and also quite profecient in RIS - I am sure all that will change, but I will be on the frontlines when the change happens to see how my crafting is effected with each piece.

Man I remember back when I first started when no one used doc buffs. We all ran around in Chitin Armor and the like. Weapons weren't uber powerful, no 90% Comp. That was fun as hell.

To be honest, I've always thought armor was balanced. It was the buffs that allow us to wear the heavy stuff without penalty, and that's what throws us into god mode.
I used to keep a set of unlayered comp on me when I was doing BH investigation old-school. Without buffs, even a set of 400/400/400 encumbrance comp would drain my ham in five to ten seconds it took to take out my mark.
Even when doc buffs were common, mind encumbrance was a factor until the chef revamp and the advent of vasarian brandy. I remember there was always a small group of people on muon downer whenever you went to a popular POI.
Anywho, I know changes are coming, but as someone who remembers armor without the full suite of doc/chef/entertainer I've always thought armor was balanced.

Exactly. I agree 100%. I don't feel like it's an armor problem as much as it's a buff problem. Buff's do nothing but remove any penalties that the heavier armor has and at the same time makes all lesser armor types almost useless.

I'm responding to the two generalities here, not specific people:

A bunch of people paraphrased: There will be changes, and there is documentation that you can't see. Have faith and let the chips fall where they may.

If I can't see it, then as far as my world goes its not there. I can assume that there is a card that says who is gonna win the Oscars, but until someone announces it I feel compelled to keep sayingit should be Lord of the Rings, while assuming that the card says White Chicks until it is known otherwise. It's my philosophy of constructive pessimism.

A bunch of people paraphrased: If they fix buffs, armor is fine the way it is.

Well the point of this post was to say even if they fix buffs, it's not fine the way it is. The way the current system works, the armors are basically the same, but progressively higher stats with higher encumbrance to go with it. This leads to there being some mathematically determined "right" armor to wear. That in turn leads to everyone wearing the same armor. If after the combat upgrade I see everyone wearing the same type of armor, I will consider the fix to be a failure (even if it is still better than now.)

But how can youjust say that it will be a failure, or doesn't exist, when you're not even privy to any information? The CU is addressing many aspects of all things combat, of which armor is one.

Perhaps you should reread it (particuarly the second sentence) and let it sink in.

If you were pessimistic or worried, you would be NDAed from expressing this. I'm simply being the cynic. You always need a cynic. But seriously, was anyone going to respond to any of the actual content of this post?

The gist of your post is that armor needs to be revamped. At least thats what I got out of it, and I'm sure others did too. And we're just here to tell you that there is going to be a change. Its going to happen, you're just going to have to wait and see it for yourself.

Ah, an example from the old republic... Much babbeling about this and that, want, need etc... No wonder our great Palpatine is in power!
