I have yet to see any go through... and been playing with only those four pieces for at least two weeks... Fighting high level mobs.

Try taking the gloves off, but be careful. -_-

They always hit hard, just curious if they hit through the armor here and there anyways, heh.

Results - took around 100-150 hits, 4-5 went through without cause. This is a damn good rate considering the lower encumbrance, but it disproves the theory. Was wearing only helmet, chest, boots, gloves.

What type of armor were you using? I suspect this may be key to figuring this out.

We know that some armor covers more than one spot. We have have cases where a full suit of some armor will actually cover some spots with more than one piece of armor (for example, legs might be covered in composite by both boots and pants).

The end result may be, if you aren't wearing armor that covers the spot, you get no damage reduction. If you wear a single piece that covers the spot, the armor takes 100% of the hits (the composite boots only vs. legshot case). If you have multiple pieces covering the spot, then all appropriate pieces will get hit on occasion (the composite boots and legs vs. legshot case).

From anecdotal evidence, ubese boots clearly don't cover the legs, while composite boots appear to. To understand how your results fit into the devloping theories, everyone needs to specify the type of armor they are testing with.

Also.... Wookiee armor acts in the same way, you have only 4 areas covered gloves, legs and body/head.... Possibly this is by design?

Well i'm done with this theory. I'm getting hit regularly now by ranged opponents. Melee seem to almost never hit, but ranged are right on target.

Oh, I was using composite for my tests.

Anyway, I still haven't had time to do some more testing yet, but what jamesgoddard wrote is along a similar line of what I was thinking this morning. I think that the way this works IS by design, although one that we weren't supposed to discover.

When you look at suits of armor like mabari, ubese, and wookie armor you have suits that all are comprised of less than 9 pieces. With the exception of tantel which lacks gloves, all of these armors have head, torso, hands, and feet coverage. Not counting tantel, all of these suits are considered full-coverage suits. I almost think one of the devs took a little lazy shortcut and designed it so that if armor isn't present on the legs, biceps, and bracers slots the game engine removes these areas as possible hit locations...not that anyone from SOE will admit to this if it is the case.

Kinda makes you think...

Didn't had alot of time, but did a couple of mission yesterday.

With, compo helmet, gloves and boots, and ubese jaket.

Didn't get it in any of the unportected area.

I will try with a BE pant and have a look at my undershirt to see if they have decay.

Oh and my uber pocket shorts, people say its pvp summer when Im around Never see anything hit my arms or legs, or if it does hit I never see it. I even duel like that occasionally and same result, not many attacks hit the action pool, unless your carbinier..

I'm running round in comp helm, chest, boots and gloves and it's doing a great job... Even made me some nice cloth pants to match the colour of the comp - looks good - HAM is half, and no armor holes.....

Isn't this connected to 'Armour Holes' which is allegedly being dealt with in the revamp ?

The Armour hole bugged involved hits missing the armour you wore and hitting you instead.

So if your looking for a real nasty hack fix you would detect the armour equiped and direct the contact to there.
Now just wearing a helmit wont work, but if the code considers a certain amount of amour to be a suit, then the itemswill be flagged and damage targeting will be focused on these to prevent the armour whole.

I could get technical to how i thing the code for this has been done to "fix" the armour hole, but im not
As i see it i think this has been a nasty hack, but becuase everyone wears armour all the time nearly, so the devs may have thought this would do.

Im a trandoshan and i cant wear gloves nor boots allthough i never seem to get hit in thoose two specifik locations. A connection? Have you tried to wear biceps, bracers, leggings and chestplate? Maybee its some kinda zoning thing. A hit on yourlegs automaticly guides the hit to the part on your legs that has protection (If there is one). Some kinda priority thing?
