- To the wookiee haters, I fart in your general direction, now go away or I shall taunt you a second time! -

Thanks Dev team for making the right decision on this subject and not letting us down. I'm so happy about this. So, let the questions begin....

Any comment on how many pieces this suit will have?

Are you going to make us pieces to cover what we can do with clothing now?

Or are you planningsome "shock and awe"and going to hit us with an actual full suit?

Will the resists be determined by the quality of resources used?

Will the resists be capped?

Can I have Dark Trooper armor now?

No, please give them wookie-only PSGs instead. Make them as good as armor but wookies don't wear armor.

And while you are at it, give us PSGs that are not compatible with other armor so we don't have half the population all running around in one of 2 or 3 outfits. Boring and a waste of a lot of your good artwork.

It's lame enough to see Jedi's running around in full composite armor, but seeing wookies running around in armor will be yet another easy and lazy solution a known problem. And like Jedi's running around in full composite, it will seriously take the Star Wars feeling away from the game.

Yeah, and spitting in the Niagra falls is going to flood Australia.

Haha, five stars!

I think it's a messy game to play. Let's talk numbers - what is going to make you happy as a wookie? At what point will you consider yourself "even"?

Sure. Right now Wookiees have a 13% HAM bonus. That is unbuffed of course. Since as you factor in buffs that number percent bonus decreases.

My suggestion in the past was to increase the encumberance costs of the armor by 13% when worn by a Wookiee. And to also reduce the resists by 13%. However another Wookiee pointed out to me this last isn't quite correct. What you have to do is increase damage by 13% to cancel it out.

So the formula for figuring the correct resists is (100 - resist value) * (1.13). So 75% armor would be (100-75) or 25% of the damag the non-Wookiee takes becomes 25 * 1.13 = 29% damage or 71% resist.

That is fairly even. The higher encumberance and lower resists cancel out the natural HAM bonus of the Wookiee.

I don't agree with the line of thinking that making the armor a bit less effective is enough to justify the continued bare-wookie +700 HAM. I bet if the Devs opened up the metrics, the amount of people that wear 90% composite armor, which you are asking to be balanced against, would be less than the number of Overt Imperials.

Why not? People seem to forget that Wookiees are not the only species with a HAM bonus. Dosh get one too. Yet I haven't seen you ask for their bonuses to be removed. You also have to factor in thata Wookiee will not be able to wear a full suit. This leaves vulnerable areas.

We aren't asking to be balanced against 90% armor. My opinion was to let us wear regular armor but use the modifiers I suggested above. That does make it about as "even" as we are likely to get.

You are right about the amount of 90% armor. But what about 75% armor? That is rather common. A Wookiee takes 8X the damage as someone in 75% and 20X the damage compared to 90%.

As to species skill-bonuses, they seem to have erred on the side of caution with these, and I too would like to see them fleshed out for all species.

If we balanced for only the low-game before (bone armor, etc), I think it's just as much a mistake to balance for the only the end-game.

Agreed. Which is why I suggested my version of making regular armor availabe to Wookiees but with those modifiers. It modifies all the armor and balances it across the board.

I'm not a programmer. But we know that armor already checks your species to see if you can wear armors. Would it be difficult to put in an IF/THEN statement to make those modifiers for Wookiees? Probably not. The problem appears to be with the graphics though.

Honestly TH, I really really hate this decision. As a Wookiee, I WANT to be naturally stronger. I don't care that I don't have armor at all, all I want is some form of natural armor and some natural resists as was first mentioned.

Let us examine the Pros and Cons of natural armor:

Pros:

  • More fitting with the SW Universe

  • Gives Wookiees that basic yet feral feel, very individualistic

  • Cannot be *that* hard to code into place

Cons:

  • Less money in the economy for a class that already makes millions off of their incredible armor

  • Essentially "free" extra HAM

You have however missed the most important con about natural armor. It will not work. Unarmored players are considered VULNERABLE to all damage types. That means you drop to AR0 and the weapon looses all AP bonus.

Presently since we are AR0 and vulnerable we take 100% damage regardless of the AP of the weapon.

If we have an innate armor, we are STILL considered vulnerable to all damage types and would take the EXACT same damage we take now. This is easy to test, find any MOB that has armor such as a Krayt. Hit it with a damage type it is vulnerable to. Your combat spam and the floaty damage will be exactly the same. That is because the Krayts AR3 drops to AR0 and the weapon looses the AP bonus. Same thing would happen to players with an innate ability.

Now lets say they remove the vulnerabilities and gave us innate armor. Here is how damage would be vs the different APs. AP0 50%, AP1 100%, AP2 125%, AP3 156%.

As you can see at AP1 or higher we would take the same or more damage with an innate ability than we do now. I do not know if MOBs have AP ratings on their attacks. Since we can't see their combat spam, but I suspect they do. We do know however that player weapons do. So in PvP situation the Wookiee would again be at a major disadvantage.

Since the most common PvP weapons are all AP1 or greater. Because of that the Wookiee would actually be better off removing armor in PvP to reduce the damage in most cases. Resulting in the same situation we are in now.

Any evidence of that? Nope. Wookiees not wearing armor is a myth. There is evidence of them doing so.

If you are going off the movies only, which is where this myth seems to originate, then only one person can wear armor. Jango Fett. You do not see anyone else is functional armor.

PSGs are broken. Have been since launch. A Wookiee only PSG still means one form of armor. While everyone else could stack armor and PSGs. For them to make Wookiee PSGs would also require them to fix all PSGs.

Oh yeah, and that whole thing about wookiee armor taking away the star wars feel of the game is bull. Just because you have only seen ONE wookiee in star wars (Chewbacca who only wore a bandolier) Doesn't mean that back in shyriwook wookiees weren't wearing any type of armor at all. Think deeper, I doubt that the new wookiee armor is going to look anything like composite and if it even comes close to that I wont wear any of it. You other races keep complaining that wookiee armor destroys the star wars feel, yet you all continue to wear composite armor which is the ugliest armor in game.

As an armorsmith I dread the day this armor will make it to live, why? Because most likely it will require extreme amounts of hides as any noncomposite armor does today. Have a look at chitin for instance, that can be made to 65-70% kinetic with great resources, why is it then that noone is makeing it?

Same with padded, it requires wast amounts of specific (yavinian for advanced) wooly hide for the segments and even more organics for the armor itself. No wonder everyone is running around in composite!

So to implement this with as little pain as possible let it require something that can be harvested in large amounts, with only one slot for organics. Also with as few specifics as possible or you'll have every wookie doing a wookieroar at the developer's door when they realize that the armor can't be made due to the last resource of the given type hasn't spawned for 80days. Would love to be able to layer this armor with say 2-3 layers, makes armor more interesting to craft.

yay, bout dang time we got armor. And it better be good enough to compete with comp armor. And for all you nah sayers, you cant possibly be real SW fans and you dont even know what Star Warsy feeling is like. If you go to www.starwars.com and actually read about the wookiee species, you would know that they are an advanced civilization and they make excellent mechanics. That was the whole reason they were enslaved by the empire. I hope we see wookiee armor with around 80% resistances just like comp armor, to make it fair make it have higher encumberance, but atleast make it very good. This is awesome news for wookiees and their friends everywhere, and for all those that don't like it, for once us wookiees can say "why dont you just reroll, you will only lose the exp that you gained for the past ## months that you have played as one". /WookieeRoar
