I don't think you'll see many calls for species nerfs.

Wookiees want to be able to compete. They want to be able to use one of the few loots that are worth having, armor attachments. We want to be able to last more than a few seconds in PvP. We just want the same options the others have now.

It would be impossible to make it completely even to balance our HAM and negating it with amor. Though it can be close.

There are times like you stated that the extra HAM does come in handy. This is an advantage for the Wookiee. But you can balance that out by making Wookiees in armor SLIGHTLY less effective in armor.

At this point, with the "combat balance" and everything else getting so complicated, maybe it's time to simplify - give spieces other non-HAM bonuses to compensate and keep it "interesting".

Already exist slightly in the racial bonuses such as Bothan camo bonus. Though I think there should be more of them and have them actually be more useful. Each race should have a couple bonuses that are actually useful to a number of different professions.

I think right now on paper at least the Wookiee has the most of these. However of the five, one has already been nerfed to uselessness and one or two more are about to get nerfed. That will drop them to two or three.

I think it's a messy game to play. Let's talk numbers - what is going to make you happy as a wookie? At what point will you consider yourself "even"?

I don't agree with the line of thinking that making the armor a bit less effective is enough to justify the continued bare-wookie +700 HAM. I bet if the Devs opened up the metrics, the amount of people that wear 90% composite armor, which you are asking to be balanced against, would be less than the number of Overt Imperials.

As to species skill-bonuses, they seem to have erred on the side of caution with these, and I too would like to see them fleshed out for all species.

If we balanced for only the low-game before (bone armor, etc), I think it's just as much a mistake to balance for the only the end-game.

More propaganda. Want to see a wookiee wearing armor? Lets look at the book "Star Wars: Shadows of the empire" which happens to be part of the expanded universe. In the book we see the most prominent wookiee in the known starwars universe Chewbacca wearing Bounty Hunter armor as he impersonates a bounty hunter named Snoova in order to sneek into Prince Xizors place. Below you will find links to the images of chewbacca wearing this armor. These pictures prove that Wookiees can and Do wear armor, not only that but this also proves that Mr. Lucas himself approves of wookiees wearing armor in the Star Wars universe. So if you got a problem with continuity I suggest you give good ol' George Lucas a call....

You can also find this same picture of chewbacca in the bounty hunter disguise if you look for the Snoova card from the Starwars Collectible Card game.

So by all means please tell me again how wookiees never wore armor in the starwars universe? I'd really like to hear that propaganda again.

Hmmm....is that armor? I see a wookie wearing shoulder pads. Dunno if I would call that armor exactly.

So I guess if you're trying to prove that George Lucas has approved wookies wearing shoulder pads, you've convinced us! Good job! The devs should feel free to add wookie shoulder pads in the game now!

Honestly TH, I really really hate this decision. As a Wookiee, I WANT to be naturally stronger. I don't care that I don't have armor at all, all I want is some form of natural armor and some natural resists as was first mentioned.

Let us examine the Pros and Cons of natural armor:

Pros:

  • More fitting with the SW Universe

  • Gives Wookiees that basic yet feral feel, very individualistic

  • Cannot be *that* hard to code into place

Cons:

  • Less money in the economy for a class that already makes millions off of their incredible armor

  • Essentially "free" extra HAM

As for Pros and Cons of race-specific armor:

Pros:

  • Wookiees get some armor which *could* make them more competitive

  • Armorsmiths get some money

Cons:

  • Clearly not what the community asked for. A great majority of the poster's in KStarfire's thread said that they wanted natural armor and that having real armor would detract greatly from the allure of being a Wookiee

  • There are few poor Armorsmiths. They've lived 6 months without our business and have become very wealthy in that time. This should be totally ignored due to this fact.

Frankly TH, I see this as the easy way out. Slap some new skins on to an existing system, write up some restrictions on who can use it, problem solved. I can assure you all that the chances are greatly against us of this being any where near Comp Armor or even Ubese armor because of the extra HAM which has become totally obsolete.

The fact of the matter is we've been waiting 6 months for a change, and this seems to be a quick fix instead of the groundbreaking changes we thought it would be. This is an opportunity to make us fun and unique and instead are making us dull by making us exactly like everyone else. Rune-Sabre himself said that he would not add professions to the game that merely copied existing ones, so why change races to make them as bland as the others? Everyone runs around in 90% Comp Armor to compete nowadays. There is no variety at all, if you want to fight in PvP, that's what you wear. However, I notice that only the Wookiees currently stand out due to the fact that we are natural warriors and that's one of the few aspects of being a Wookiee I thoroughly enjoyed, being unique on and off the battlefield.

What I am not suggesting here is that Wookiees be the be-all-end-all in combat. However, in unarmored combat, they should have a distinct advantage which they currently do not have. I believe that there SHOULD be a balance between natural armor and crafted armor, including possibly regenerating natural armor. We get so many hit points for our natural armor until it becomes ineffective, then it has to slowly regenerate. That would definitely make us stand out, especially if the effectiveness of the natural armor increased slowly over time according to some system, preferably damage taken.

Ultimately, I am thoroughly displeased. I hope you reconsider as this is not the solution I and many of my other Wookiee friends have been waiting for. I am begging you to make us original, unique, and truly inspired. Wookiee armor achieves none of these, it only lumps us in the with others. I believe this is the difference between a "balanced" game and a "balanced yet original" game. I think 6 months of saying something will be done deserves this much.

I would also be happy if they just nerf'd the living hell out of existing armor instead. That would even up the playing field some.

Great post The_Great_Destroyer. I agree 100%. There are much better ways to handle the problem than wookie armor. It does seem the easy solution, but it certainly isn't the best.

I am sure the DEVS will make wookiee armor below standards in comparison to composite, and I am sure we will not be wearing boots, and no pants most likely.

SInce it is wookie only armor they can easily make it balanced by making it have higher HAM costs then non wookie armor. No problem there. I am ecstatic my long time Wookie CH / BE will finally be able to take more then 3 hits without one of the three being my furry butt hitting the ground!

If all you looked at was the toy I could see how you could mistake the armor as "shoulder pads". However the comic book images clearly show that "Shoulder pad" as you like to call it is clearly metallic. And from the information I've been assembling from various parts of the internet the "Shoulder pad" is in actuality a peice of mandalorian armor given to Snoova by an unknown source. As I'm sure some of you are still skeptical I'll post another image of Snoova in that armor from the Starwars Collectible Card game. This image clearly shows snoova wearing the mandalorian armor "shoulder pad" and for those of you who appear to be color blind it clearly states an armor rating of 4 is given to this character.

Upon further review from our art department, the Maurader armor will not work for the Wookiees without substantial adjustment. In light of this, we have decided to go ahead and create Wookiee specific armor. We are going to add brand new, never-seen-before, craftable armor for Wookiees. We will have this ready and pushed to live sometime between Publish 7 and Publish 8.

/wookieeroar

Talk about slapping canon in the face, Thunderheart. I wonder who authorizes something that breaks the continuity of the timeline like this? I highly doubt George Lucas would approve.

Anyways, onto my post. I have posted this several times throughout seperate forums but will do so again. I will attempt to give everyone a happy "middle ground" in my ideas on Wookies, armour, and the canon of a pop-culture phenomenon that nobody should be given the right to change at will. Here we go:

Wookies can be made armoured just the same as any other human player...if implemented correctly. When I say implemented, what I mean is by trying to give "both" sides of the arguement nothing to argue about (wookies want armour, non-wookies seek "canon"), making the issue moot. This is my suggestion:

The Wookie Bandolier

The Wookie bandolier (WB from here on out) would be considered (guesswork mostly at this stage) the "chest plate" of the wookie armour. This item could be made by Armoursmiths, and given Resist/Encumerances to reflect armour.

But I see what you wookies are getting ready to say already: "W.T.F.? That's just a chestplate, we wookies want a full suit of armour, like humans get." So, here comes part II of my bandolier idea:

The Wookie Bandolier Cartridge

The WBC would be in a nutshell, the other pieces of armour. These would also be made by Armoursmiths, and given the Resist/Enc wanted, and then could be made to "drag and drop" onto the WB and (once attached) they are forever. Just like any other armour, you would have to purchase a new WB and WBC in order to make another armour type that would benefit you in a different situation (much like we should need more than one type of armour as well.) the WBC would take no "space" in the WB, which would also be dual-purposed as a "backpack" for wookies as well. The WBC would also be able to use armour tapes in their construction.

By using a situation such as above, I can see the ability to give Wookies what they need, which IMO is armour and not AR1. This also benefits the humans/fanboys of the game that feel wookies shouldn't be running around looking like everyone else and their mothers. This also compliments the game overall, as it provides wookies with armour, fanboys with their "canon" and keeps the players ingame looking more "varied" overall...as as it stands, most everyone looks identical in their Composite armour (lack of variance is a major flaw in this game.)

Oh, and while you're at it TH: Fix all armour. Each type of armour should provide benefits on different types of damage. Tell me again what the point is in having what, 7 or so types of damage available, but having a suit of composite that provides 80% resistance to everything. Make each suit of armour matter, and make each suit of armour weak to certain types of damage. Or we will forever live in a world where everyone wears composite, and Wookies look like "tall, hairy humans in armour."

I hope this will be followed by a severe hit to their hams. I thought, and I could be mistaken, that you had said quite plainly several months ago that wookiees have the largest hams in the game therefore they do not get to wear armor. You have now put EVERY other character that isnt some chewsomething or somethingbacca at a severe disadvantage

And tell me if I am wrong but it seems if you whine **edit** and moan about something day in and day out you will eventually get your way?
