Thread: The Galactic Civil War: An Architect's Role!

i think they should introduce some quest of the architects to work hand in hand with other professions. Quest rewards can be data to built new building/armor/weapons (eg. deathstar/lightsaber). This way its not all abt harvesting and crafting.
In response to thos whole thread. Woot! Great ideas. I don't think it should nix building decay, but in itself, it is a great idea.
My thoughts on the subject is that perhaps this should be a hybrid profession, Combat Engineer, with requirements in the Architect and Weaponsmith Professions, perhaps even Armorsmith or Droid Eng. It seems as if it should definitely be a specialty - but if that is true, then it does nothing to solve for the validity of the Architect after initial demand is filled.
Thanks for reading. We DEFINITELY need the DEVS to take a look at these ideas.
Holocron Q-3PO takea look at this thread, please.

There's something deliciously ironic about asking devs to read a thread, INSIDE the thread you want them to read. Either way, ditto from me, I do hope they read this & include archs in the civil war.

I also agree it should be FP based. If you want to stay neutral, fine. You just won't get to build for the 'war effort'.
I disagree with this. IT's SWG, not GCW. Yep, the war is the main background of the environment, but there are TRILLIONS of people in the "Divided Galaxy" that have nothing to do with the War. If you want to be as true to form to the Original Starwars galaxy, then the people actually involved in the war are like 1 in a Billion - just like any conflict, local or galactic. Yes, I do agree with you that the war should primarily drive the storyline even, but I don't think you have to be directly involved in the conflict to affect it, or to take place in the storyline even. Look at Albert Einstein and his contribution to WWII. Or how about Jaba and his crew, not aligned with either faction, yet has great affect on SW storyline. Han Solo is probably only tied to the Rebels because the buddies he met are (plus he has the hots for Leia). Having to choose a side does not necesarily equate with effecting the galaxy or the war.
Sorry to clutter up this grea thread with such a minor point, but I think it's fairly important for this profession skillset to NOT be faction oriented, unless faction just gives you access to SPECIFIC "brands" of offensive structures and vehicles that are obviously only available to a certain military.

As to the question whether architects should have to chose sides to be involved in the Galactic Civil War, I am going to have to say no. A player (or organization) can be neutral and still be involved in the war. By providing the tools for the war, architects can be directly involved, but they wouldn't have to be on one side or the other.
Granted, there would be an added benefit and fun factor if an architect was actively involved on one side, but it should not be a requirement. The only way to effectively gain faction points is through battle, after all. If a character was not up for fighting, making building enhancements or repairing buildings would be a great way to be a part of the war.
True that, Sunakk. I agree completely.

Just an idea to throw in the mix when i thought about sieging cities...
How bout we wait till player vehicles come out, so we can have siege units of some sort? An artillery vehicle (or maybe even pet, but that's edgy) would be perfect.
You mean like an AT-AT?

So you architects want have the sole ability to craft faction HQs. Ok so lets say that after accumilating 60K in faction points I get a schematic of a detachment HQ from the recruiter instead ofa deed. Now I have to hand over this schematic, that required endless hours of gameplay to require, to an architect to craft an HQ deed for me. Assuming that you are not a scammer and will just run off with the schematic, what happens when you get a "Critical Failure" when crafting the HQ? How are you going to explain to me that you basically wiped out all of my hours of game play because YOU screwed up?
Do you really want to have this kind of responsibility?\
Weaponsmiths refuse to repair a weapon simply because the dont want to have the burden to explain that they just destroyed someone's uber weapon. That is nothing compared to destroying someones HQ!!
Think it over please!!!

The architect doenst screw it up, the SOE "balancing" screws it up.
I joined the rebel alliance about 2 months ago. It all started when I was in the cantina in Kaadara. I was enjoying a nice relaxing drink watching Allyanna do her slow dance. This human came and sat next to me. After about 2 or 3 dances he started a conversation with me. We talked about everything under the sun and some other suns also.
To make a long story short he turned out to be a rebel lieutenant. He asked if I wanted to help the Rebel Alliance. I told him I was builder not a fighter. He said that it will take all types of people to overthrow the Empire. So I told him would do what I could.
That was 2 months ago. I had not heard from him or anyone else until today. A Wookie came into my shop today. Not very unusual but not ordinary either. She wanted to talk about some experimentation on a harvester. I told her that it is very expensive. She insisted that I show her some of my designs. Now you don’t make a Wookie upset even a female one. So I asked here to step into the back where I have my work terminal. Once we got to the back room two other humans followed us. One showed me a data pad that had the guy’s name, that I met 2 months ago, on it. It hit me these people were rebels. In my shop. During the day. My heart started to race. What did they want? Was I going to have to become a fugitive on the run from the Empire. Then the man with the data pad told me to have a seat. He needed a building made. Well that I can do. I asked what type. A forward scout base he told me. He described what he needed and it sounded very easy to make. I told him that I could do it. He said that the Rebel Alliance would be very happy and might promote me in the future.
After they left I quickly constructed a plan on how I was going to skim the resources off the top of my harvesters to make the structure. I had to be careful the Empire keeps a close eye on Architects.
This is how I think crafters should gain Faction Points.
I am a builder not a fighter. I want to be able to help my side by being able to build items (structures, weapons, armor, flight suits, etc)
Right now Recruiters are an anomaly. They are the only place you can buy non-player made items. How about letting the players create the items and get Faction points for selling them.
Here is my idea
An elite crafter gets certifications for different types of items. These certifications come from the rank of the crafter and how experienced they are in their profession. The higher the rank the larger or better the items they can make. They would get normal experience for crafting the item. Ie piece of stormtrooper armor would give armorsmith experience and so on.
The sell of the item would be in Faction points not Credits. Also the buyer would have to be of sufficient rank to purchase the item. You don’t want a lieutenant buying a headquarters. This would make it hard for people to abuse the system and grind to a desired rank.
Again I am a builder not a fighter. Please allow me to play my character as a builder and still take part in the Galactic Civil War.

Ok, i agree there is no long term future for architect, which really sucks because i just got it 2 days ago. But when you think about it, some of these plans will be ineffective.
1. The Player City Role of an Architect's defenses: I have heard on a separate thread(I have no proof this is true) that each planet will have a 5 player city limit. So even if we repair structures, we won't have much to repair. Another part of this the strength of the defenses. If we have extremely effective weapons to protect the houses, reapir wont be needed.
2. Would anyone be crazy enough to take these defenses on? If you think about it, would a person want to go 3000-5000m away from a NPC city just to walk into turrets, shields, and blasters? You would be left in the middle of knowwhere, so you better do a corpse run fast or else somebody in town walking by will notice your corpse and loot all your stuff from it while you're thousands of meters away. I could think of nothing better to do then get my friends PA together to die at the hands of turrets.
3. Is there even a future in this? 5 PC's per planet, 9 planets(i think), the defenses are only worth while in PC's because houses need to be protected. Normal non-PC's will just put their houses on private so people after them for a raid or something cant shoot them. Sure there would be a huge deamand for these, but since we already have a million master architects per server they will already have the necessary skills. But when people realize there is no real use for such defenses unless you have a PC, sales will drop for an uneened skill tree.
Well, just my thoughts on the situation. Personally, i hate owning property because of maintenance. My harvesters break after a day of running them and then burn. The only thing i'm sorry to say a person would want a house for is for a shop, and that's pretty much it.
I know this is a good plan, so don't curse me off for these ideas, cuz they're just my opinion
