Thread: Dupers sell for cheap

Way to go Dayln,
I have had similar arguments on this board and feel that I am in the minority (at least with Architects who post here), thats ok cos its only gonna be the canny few that will still be in buisness this time next year.
Selling high gets you lots of money quick - selling low lots of customers long.
Og - dont call people cheaters like that - it makes you seem very unsporting.
Apparently you are missing the basic point that without decay tehre wont be long term customers... once people are stocked up.. thats it... so gues what.. your wal-mart sales tactics dont hold water cause your good arent consumable. these lowballers are all the same.. no grasp of the big picture.
If you are not calculating in the costs of harvester moves and a cost for critical failures you aren't calculating your expenses you're deluding yourself on your profit margin.

As I am having fun playing I guess I dont count my time.
As far as my calcluator goes, there is nothing wrong with it.
I calcualte the cost of power using the generation rate against the pay mantenance rate.
I calculate the resource cost by the pay mantenance rate and the above power consumption rate per unit.
I know what resruces cost for me, yours may vary.
Yaadaa-yeedee-yaadaa. Blah blah have no clue blah blah don't see big picture.
It's you, my friend, who don't see the big picture. Until real life, SWG is an economy of LIMITED demands and *U*N*limited supplies.
You are correct. Eventually, there will be no more demands. So the question facing the architect is do we satisfy the demand as fast as possible or do we squeeze the consumer.
Guess which one the consumer want? Piss off the consumer, guess what'll happen.
And no, the housing isn't the last sell for the architect. The player city will create new demands. But again, those too will wane.
So do we architect collude and squeeze the consumer, or do we architect satisfy the needs as fast as possible.
So you choose the former. Your choice. Other choose the latter. Butt out. Mind YOUR business and stop telling other how to mind THEIR business.
Do I sell for 2.5 cr per resource? No I'm greedy. I sell for 3.0 cr per. But if someone sell for 2.5 cr per and his bank account grow at the end of each day, he's making a profit. So stop trying to be a racketeer and intimidate other into collusion.
AwaitingWoW - I posted '' thats ok cos its only gonna be the canny few that will still be in buisness this time next year. ''
That , I belive, is the point you accuse me of missing.
There will always be a place for Architects in this game, just probably far less than there is now.
To all whinning about prices.
I have confidence that I will be here trading next year, you dont give the impression that you do.
The question is, do you create a viable long term buisness or do you sit back and expect SOE to give you one on a plate ?
Actually I am, but I count that seperatly as overhead.
Re-deeding, tickets to other planets to sell, tiping of medics to heal me when I am wounded trying to pull resreouces out of my hopper.
As thoses costs are really vairable, I include them in the finished product price as overhead, no real point in factoring those costs into raw materials. No business I know does that.
Og - I think maybe you dont mine your own ore and think that the person you buy it off is being fair.
Buy your resources at 2cr and you can undercut that man.
Or mine your own - see how cheap they come ![]()
No, every architect who sells for less than 3 cpu or less is not a duper, but they certainly don't exactly qualify for Nobel prizes in the area of business either.
You folks who sell for less than what you could otherwise sell them for on the bazaar are what's killing our economy. Frankly, I don't care because at master I don't need to sell for experience. The few structures I do sell keep me in credits for a very long time. I extract my resources for around 1 cpu when you factor in travel (I almost never move off Naboo), my time (I try to get resources near my guild hall) and harvester movement (I only plop harvesters on new resources and keep them there to the bitter end). I sell ALL of my structures for 6 cpu or more, and this will continue to rise.
What I think you folks who sell for little or no profit fail to realize is that you are selling a product that will NEVER decay. Once you sell someone a house, it's there forever. They may wish to trade up eventually, but if you're selling for 2 cpu anyway, why not come back to you. They can't even buy resources that cheap off the bazaar to give to their architect friend for that. You have to sell 3 houses to gross what I make, and3 morebefore you catch up to my net profit.
It's a game, and it's up to you for how much you sell for. If you deal with the cheapskates, that means I don't have to. If someone wants a structure for cheap I'll be happy to send them to you. If they want it right now, they'll come to me.
Well said, RabidDawg.
I wouldn't say everyone selling below a minimum is a duper. I would, however, say they either lack business smarts or have a strange idea of what is fun. It's FUN doing harvester runs every day? It's FUN dealing with re-deeding and critical fails? It's FUN answering stupid questions like "Why won't my house set up in the lake"? NO IT'S NOT FUN, IT'S WORK. So get paid for it. If you can't make more money as an architect than as a newbie running artisan or delivery missions, something is basically wrong.
Now, try this concept on for size and see if it rings true. I could call my login name anything I like, when I set up my SWG account. Then I could get on the boards, knowing absolutely jack about architecture, and just keep stirring up crap because I enjoy making people mad. I could refuse to give my in-game name because I know I'm going to have to deal with hate mail 24-7. I could even claim that I'm selling for 2 credits per resource and making money hand over fist, just because I am a philanthropist and a humanitarian. Heck I could even claim that people love me and my name is going to be immortalized by having the most structures ever made on my server. Sound like anyone we know?
There are many ways to be a griefer.
We who sell cheap are not ruining OUR economy.
Now, we may be ruining your economy - but thats another thing.
As for THE economy - it will look after itself.
I love running and redeeding and critical failures and factory bugs and resouce shifts and grinding - really I do
Thats why I do it see ![]()
I see the small time things being prone to duping. But it is hardly the way to survivie if you have to spend 400K$ to get to the big facilities (to get crafting exp). Dupers will burn themselfs out, just dont try competing with them. I dont htink many dupers can run a structure factory and buy 2 Fusion gens if they sell at 2 creds a unit. just the 3 afro mention facilities will cost you an arm and a leg if you dont have a proper business model.
Let them think that dumping their products is the best option, they will soon realize that its not a long term solution. Build contacts, give good and timely service, those alone will increase the value of the product you provide. Since I dont dupe, I can serve all of my clients in a few hours. Ive been asked to privode 3 factories and 3 med mining facilities, if you dupe, you could never get the materiels needed (I was able to complete the orders in 2 hours).

apparently someone calling himself "waiting for World of Warcraft" seems to have a lot to say about the Star Wars game.
apparently the same person, as well as Og, do not realize that, there's also another class that adds very little to combat (Tailor) but yet gets a LOT of repeat customers on the basis of 1 thing. Collectability and Trends. I sell furniture between 2-5cpr (depending on lv of skill and required resources) and i have quite a few repeat customers wanting to buy lots of 10 to 30 of 1 certain model of furniture (so far, i received about 5 orders like this), and with my having to note down customer names and their purchases for future reference, i tend to get repeat customers thanking me for keeping my vendors freshly stocked per day and my customers happy.
u know what? i sell customized furniture, just with the name and the "selling description" (which is cleared when it's sold from the vendor). i make bookcases called "Nabooian Geographics Collection", or "Playsquid Swimsuit Edition". I make toolchests called "Where a man keeps his tool". and they sell VERY quickly. who cares at what prices i sell at? it's a few hundred creds per piece and people enjoy getting a good laugh. for most of them, it's just tips money, and i get to upkeep my harvesters and have time to make up more interesting stuff. no one else seems to be doing it, so i guess i'm making my mark on a niche market. i sometimes give a good deal to repeating customers, sometimes even less than 2cpr, but that's my choice. they help me spread the word and i get even more ppl coming to look at my stuff, netting me even more Merchant xp, and especially, allowing me to enjoy conversations with random strangers who like stuff i make.
there are a lot of problems with the game, not just our profession, most of which should be quite urgent to be fixed, but the market (yes, i b*tched about it when i first started learning the prof as well) will always balance itself out. whining about it here won't do anyone any good except show that some of you are, indeed, whiners.
AwaitingWoW, you remind me of a guild in Anarchy Online called "Waiting for SWG". if you are only playing the game to pass the time until WoW comes out, why are you badgering people here?
ah yes, forgot to mention.
there are more things to sell than just harvesters and houses you know? i make a lot of furniture for selling at the prices i list in the above post. and i only have furniture 1.
oh another thing, guess what. if i really had to grind, gimme 3-4 days and just with crafting stations, i can probablygo from novice to master architect. do i want to do this? no. but for those arguing that they'll be here next year while those who sell "Wal-mart-style" won't, yes they can. you really think your moaning and groaning here will have an effect? if they wanted to, i'm sure some of them can completely remove their architect tree, turn intoa fighter for a year, have a blast, and come back next year, make master architect in a week, and still sell for cheap just so they can grind something new for their PA or something.
btw, i posted an idea about specialist architect professions (to counter-balance the City Planner profession), and i do seriously think that will ultimately fix the market economy rather than making more decay nerfs or whining about prices on the forums. (see a post about Elite Elite professions)
