In a way I think it is..

Player Citieswas a great Noval Idea.. at least the ones advertised a year before SWG was released.. SWG in my mind is successful and can be more successful not by replaying the stories but by giving me an opportunity to write / enact my own within that same universe. The pitch was to Become a part of the player community make bonds and grow.To create something that can actually Live on its own. How does this happen by an entire group( not just PA ) taking ownership and pride in the Community they havechosen tojoin. However when the benifits of joining that community cost you to loose out to Locationand that is significant then you got to do what you got to do.. I have seen some AMAZING shops on the outskirts of theed and coronet. It is frustrating that I cant offer them something to benifet them more by moving and joining my city.... Which was a great hope of Player cities

Only issue with that kind of solution is it would exclude all the businesses in the large 'shopping districts' that have developed around the hub NPC cities like Coronet and Theed. There are dozens of shops around those cities that are not in player cities.

Well.. And here is my Personal feeling... These Shopping Districts around Theed and Coronet already have an advantage over Player Cities.. and that is of Location.. Player Cities have been lacking a reason to draw merchants ( especially with sales tax being added to the equation ) I personally am PRO Player City 100%.. and I would love to see things introduced into the game that would actually give people a Benifit to moving to a city and taking "ownership" in citizenship..

But.. If the Masses ( you all ) disagreed with me and voiced that you specifically wanted to accomodate these Shopping Districts then you could also put these terminals at the Bazaar too and have it take in to account XXXX meters around said city..

Gosh I'm glad I saw this post.

Amen! People gripe about being late to the game and not getting positioning. I have NEVER had positioning. I built my position and reputation in the city I helped establish and grow to the bastion of player participation that it is today. No ghost citizens, active crafters, active PVP, active events that don't rely on SWG to make them for us. The list goes on.

Player cities represent a unique and compellingtool if used to DEVELOP that community. They should be first within the GAME (not the genre) to get any benefits that help develop those communities. If not for the mayors and community leadersthat have committed their time and effort to fashion product loyalty for SWG, at the very least to promote this social vehicle that has kept your customers since their establishment.

SOE, it's not the people surrounding Coronet and Theed that kept your player base, it's the people that took ownership of their communities in Player Cities.

I understand that all too well.

There came a time when several of us realized that there were enough of us and a suitable location available to build a city so we did it.

However, I had to choose between giving up my primo spot outside of Coronet or establishing a retail stronghold in our new city. Given the small size of our city and the unfortunate reality that it's unlikely to grow much larger, there's just no way I could justify relocating there.

Then again, there's really nobody else in my guild that's the least bit interested in crafting so I wouldn't be able to support an entire city by myself anyway.

I just need to figure out how to get a city located near my store!

Elyssa, I can have you set up on Tempest in the Player City of your choice in 1 day. )

I can barely keep up with my store as it is. There's just no time left in the day to try to develop on another server.

...unless I can find a way to quit my job and play SWG for money.

I was set up on the outskirts of Skara Brae for a couple of months.

I spent more money in shuttle tickets than I made.

Things are only marginally better in Falcon Crest so it's hard to get motivated to keep that vendor stocked.

Maybe you need to move to my location instead.

I'm not opposed to something that would benefit player cities. I like player cities.

I would have liked some new benefit to player cities before my original city Tal Vanis turned into "Ruins of Tal Vantis" as most everyone left SWG for greener pastures.

Dvnces' proposal is ok and wouldn't 'screw' the Coronet and Theed shops. It would exclude all those Coronet and Theed merchants and their shops though and that is a large percent of the merchants in the game. It might help to draw those shops into player cities and setup new shopping districts there, which might be the best thing long term.

But in general, I take exception to an attitude that screwing a large number of players is fine and dandy. I think that most of us voiced disagreement with the initially proposed galaxy wide search system cause we didn't want to see a large group of people 'screwed'.

/agree

I apologize if my comments in anyway reflected that. However, this bottom line price model would screw every crafter on the server. Those left behind probably don't know what it's like to be in the handful of a crafting profession that's needed but barely played. I do. Either your ignore list increases drastically or you give up the profession.

Well as I stated I dont think my suggestion would Screw anyone.. But more or less even the playing feild.. the shopping districts have the edge on ease of location.. this would give player cities the edge of ease of ... hehe.. sorting>?

No problem Cafa I understood where you were coming from.

I think I wasn't totally clear on my viewpoint about Dvnce's idea though and I wanted to clear that up.
