Thread: People who are jacking up our economy...
The funniest thing about Dayln is that he revels in the fact that he works HARDER to sell for CHEAPER. There's no challenge in selling cheap. I could stand at the starport in Coronet shouting heavy harvesters for 75k and sell 40 of them in 10 minutes, but what's the point? I'd rather sell half that many for 175k each and spend the rest of my time living in the star wars universe.
Everybody loves to spout off how Sam Walton did the same thing and now the company he started is the largest in the world (by several times over); however, WalMart doesn't sell EVERYTHING for cheap. In fact many of their itemsturn 5 and 6 hundred percent margin. The toilet paper is cheap. Walton took the lost leader concept to the extreme but that can't happen in this game. People seem to forget that there's TIME and SCARCITY issues here. No matter how hard you try, you can't pull more ore out of the ground then your harvester will let you. You don't have the leverage to force people to sell resources for cheaper then market value. In fact because of the resource quality issue, bulk purchases of a great resource cost MORE then they would for smaller quantities. Weaponsmiths KILL for the chance to buy 999 copper in 100k quantities. Why? Because they only have to deal with one resource and it simplifies their crafting work.
There's no challenge in selling cheap, absolutely ANYBODY can do that. The challenge is maximizing the return on your investment of time and effort. I'm sure that there are some people who work in the real world for free, just for the satisfaction of it, but I'm sure not one of them.

If people are buying them in inexhaustible quantities than it's not "what they think they are worth," it is what they are worth.

No I agree, selling cheap is not the challange, that is easy, the challange will be staying in business as the market declines further.
The only way I can do that, is to do business at a profit margin others are not willing too. As it turns out, that is not very hard to do either a most people insist on really insane margins.
So I am dabbling in other markets on the side, and taking on partners. ![]()
Wow, when did this become the jump on Dayin thread?
I sell heavy mins for 85-110k, depending on my mood. I never feel the least bit guilty about it. Every harvester I sell makes me a huge amount of profit -- I have over a million credits in the bank.
Why should I care how many I can sell per day? I'm selling enough that I have more money than I know what to do with.
Why should I care that I spend a bunch of time as an architect? That's my profession. It's a game. I do it because I choose to, not to be paid.
This whole thread stinks of price-fixing. People should sell however they can make money. What's the point in trying to predict how the market will look in 2 months? The game is still so near to beta -- does anyone really think the market system is stable enough that a 2 month prediction is valid?
You people should stop whining about others (and attacking Dayin) and figure out how to make money -- some of us seem to be doing just fine.

Maybe I was a little too pissed when I posted this.
I went to work today and ran the numbers for selling items at 3 CPU and it works fine. I just think what is the difference in selling a newbie item at 3cpu then selling a IV item for a higher amount? Its like saying there is no difference in skill. No matter what lvl you are you still make the same profit as a newbie.
So there is no reward in selling a small house to a PA hall. Personally I would expect the PA hall to cost more per unit then the small house cause every one can make the small house and Im not paying some one for the meterials to make it but the skill to make it. I am paying them for the time I would have to invest into doing it my self and the time I would have saved from having to.
That is really how I feel about it. Its an insult to a master architect to have to sell an item for cost and have no reward for his time and effort.
A profession that's taking a loss when they combine raw resources into a final product is a DEAD END profession. We're pissed at people like you for making it that way.
But that is not "At cost" that is the current market value of a resource. It is only that high becasue others are willing to pay that price. But "at cost" is the cost to produce such a resrouce. I do not beleive we live in an environment in SWG were you can buy resources, make a house and then sell it at a profit.
I certainly would not try to do business like that, I will live with a lower profit margin than many, but that margin would be too small even for me.
Umm Ok let me put it this way...
I really dont give a **edit** about the term "At cost" and the understanding I have of "At Cost" is the price a reseller pays for an item pre-markup. That mean he intends to sell it at a higher price then he paid for it. If some one went to make a house and baught the items to make it at cost then havning some one just build it for him it would cost less. That means if the manufacturer of the item sold the item to the end user for a at cost profit then they would be screwing them selves unless they had a contracat to do so for X amount of items. Your screwing your self your basicly saying phuck every one else I will sell the items for what I want "The bottom line" and then take all the sales for my self.
The only person your impressing at this point is the fool.
I am not trying to impress anyone, the only thing that impresses me is a solid business.
What I have been trying to explain to people is about the faiy tale of 3cr per unit.
But I know what the real problem is, the probelm is thatit is the same people that complain about housing prices being low that are selling and buying resrources at 3cr per unit.
I dont buy that garbage, I know what it cost to make a unit. So I throw out the "conventional SWG prices" and I set my own price based on my costs and overhead. And everyone gets upset. It does not bother me that you sell for more, it does not bother me when others sell for less than I do.
The problem on this board is that people expect to make 400% profit from 1 unit of resrouce like it is a god given right, it isnt. This is an open economy.
The reson we use the 3cpu is because we can sell the resources to other for 3cpu. Easy.
That brings up another question. If your business modle is so fine and dandy and you could sell the plane resources for 3cpu then why even bother risking critical fails? Or having to select very specific resources to mine when you could go after the more coveted copper or LG ore?
If your modle is so fine and dandy your just blowing away your resources by risking so much.
Welcome Dayln to the "Im an idot business man" thread.
